What are your thoughts on SRP Skins?

i think i like the current style but honestly i've been thinking of getting an adult character in the older shading style because i think it makes them look more rough. the new soft shading i think is cute for younger characters but older characters def benefit off of the old shading style.
I can agree to this. I feel like characters that are older and such should have the old shading style, which, like temulaptop said it makes them look more rough, especially if they have had some lore that would make them look rough.

I'm a big believer on going with whatever shading you prefer. At the end of the day your shading(sometimes) or the colors you pick will almost never look the way they do to you as it would to someone else and that's because. . . Monitors.
also yes!! forgot to mention this. common eco W

To each person their own taste!
I personally agree with the general points made above, that the current SRP shading is desaturated and simplified. While it is not something I personally enjoy, it does not mean others cannot appreciate it. There is a reason why it is the currently most popular style!

I would say that we cannot debate the topic of "is the current trend good or bad" because tastes are not something that come with a "right" answer.

What I would however appreciate is to see Tailoring Servers making it easier to navigate between styles and to develop specific niches of shading to cater to players who simply want something else! I have personally looked up several times on tailoring servers but given up pn commissions because I cannot find anyone fitting the style I enjoy.

It is nor an issue of taste, but more of visibility/accessibility for different styles.

On a side note, I do not mind the slightest that most people around me do not have the same shading style as my characters. After all, I feel like I get to have my characters stand out more!

OH! Oh! Finally a fashion argument that I can comment on! Dejavumaxxing!
I know these! I've seen them! Hypixel and other Minecraft servers:

"Why does the new/every skin looks so similar/weird/xyz?"

"The art in the community has gotten worse."

"the skins are a lot of work and it is a pretty good style!"

"Wait... guys! let me show some colour theory and pixel art terminology!"

"In the end... at fault are the commissions. Right? And conformity in general."

[Insert copying-versus-inspiration-dispute]

"art is subjective"

[OOC]The dominant house style continues (for another year) before it shifts again[/OOC]

The arguments are still great. I love well constructed discussions on this matter.
It's also telling that they happen on every bigger MC community platform.
People have genuinely valid takes (even if they contradict each other at times.)

I'm sadly completely out of touch with skin design myself...
so... this is my meta commentary...

Hair extensions would look much better if SRP skins match the modelling shading style.

I do have a very rough opinion on the modern shading-style, however I will say this lightly.

I am not fond of it, however I disagree with how people are stating their ways of such, people do work very hard, but and shouldn't be hated for it.

I prefer an "older shading style" or "more pixelated" depending on how you see it, I will provide an image below

I do not like modern SRP shading. This is not a diss toward anyone on SRP who uses it, as everyone has what they likes, but I (PERSONALLY) really don't think they're good at all. Sometimes, it's hard to tell what a person is even SUPPOSED to be wearing when I'm looking at a skin. Or a character who wears white is wearing something extremely orange. It's hard to say any effort is put into shading these sometimes considering most of the shading is one big rectangle overlay layer. Just my opinion. I could go on, and on, and on about it if you really asked me to. Especially as someone who does art commissions, it's almost impossible to gauge any true character details because I can't tell that your character is meant to be deathly pale when they look disgustingly orange.

Bring back old shading, that's my input.
For the record, I am not saying this to personally attack anyone. Like I said, everyone has what they likes. Do whatever you want, we're all entitled to an opinion. :) As long as nobody is being personally attacked, this is merely just discussion.
bring it back but who can actually bring it

I like the current style, and I like the style we had ~ a year or two ago. I do prefer some tailors' styles more than others though. It is 100% an art style, but I do think it's kinda interesting that there tends to be a bit of an "overarching style" at any given moment. It might have to do with the fact that Minecraft skins are so simple that there's only so many ways to differently shade a character, so developing a new style ends up affecting the color palette more so than the actual "shape" of the shading.

As for why many tailors tend to adopt the same/similar style ... it's the hivemind idk

TL;DR i loooooove art styles i looooooove stylization
as im writing this i see a cloud that looks like a battleship isnt that cool
