Backstory

Kaida grew up in Shizuoka, in a house where every action, word, and thought was weighed and judged. Her father demanded perfection in grades, behavior, and appearance, his sharp words cutting deeper than he realized. Her mother, quieter but just as strict, enforced rules with an icy precision, reminding Kaida at every turn that mistakes were unacceptable. Her older brother, flawless and obedient, was the standard she could never meet. By her mid-teens, Kaida felt trapped, invisible, and suffocating under the constant pressure to be perfect.

For years, she tried to comply, bending herself to meet impossible expectations. But inside, she was breaking. One night, after a particularly harsh argument over her grades and “attitude,” she finally snapped. It started with a streak of fiery color in her hair, a subtle rebellion—but when her parents saw it, their anger erupted like a storm.

They shouted, slammed doors, and demanded explanations she refused to give. When she got her first tattoo, a small but sharp symbol on her wrist, her father’s face went pale with fury and her mother’s eyes filled with cold disappointment. They called it defiance, betrayal, even shame. Kaida could feel the walls of her home closing in, the weight of their judgment pressing down harder than ever. And in that moment, she knew she couldn’t stay.

She packed what she could carry and left Shizuoka. Her destination was Karakura, a city far from the suffocating expectations of her family, where she could focus on learning, growing, and discovering who she truly was. For the first time, she felt freedom—not the fleeting kind she had in secret sketches and walks along the coast, but real freedom, earned through courage and defiance. Her hair, her two tattoos, and the fire in her own spirit became her armor as she stepped into a life that was hers alone, determined to never let anyone define her again.
