A slender, girl of perfectly average height and perfectly average features: An average summer tan, average brown hair, an average albeit symmetrical face. Until you get a closer look. True to the Maeng name, she's an energetic girl with a glint of mischief in her eyes. Her hair is trimmed short and out of the way. Personality​

Junko has always been a bright, adventurous kid. She’s spent her life so far chasing after new experiences and information; a search that has turned her into a well traveled, open-minded young adult.​

Junko wouldn’t trade her life experiences for anything, she considers herself blessed to have gained such a wide perspective! But picking up new skills and hobbies each year has left her picking up new circles of loved ones just the same. Junko is all too excited to put down emotional roots in Karakura: to reconnect with the family she’s unfamiliar with, and to make friends that will last her a lifetime! ​

A life of constant travel, ambition, and restarting has certainly fortified Junko against life’s more frequent setbacks. But this strength sometimes shows itself in Junko’s abundant self confidence. She can be close to arrogant, and has no fear in trying something risky or outlandish. Sometimes the true stakes of a situation completely escape her. The inability to grasp these stakes may sometimes cause Junko to appear unserious or deeply out of touch.​

Despite being in her own little world most of the time, Junko cares a great deal about what others think of her. She wants everyone to see the best of her talents, and she also has a nagging desire to fit in. Her pursuit of connection tends to leave her torn between convention and individuality.​

Just a normal girl(?) with a normal life!

Junko’s concept of normality is scattered and inconsistent. She’s experienced multiple lifestyles in her travels, to the point that she’s begun to idolize a more tame daily routine. Her current goal is to live out the exciting, yet mundane “normal” life she’s absorbed from fictional slice-of-life stories. She believes this pursuit will deliver her a “sparkling, worthwhile” youth.​

FOMO

Traveling to pursue one opportunity or passion after another ultimately means leaving opportunities and passions behind. As a jack of all trades and a master of none, Junko hates to think of what she may be leaving behind as she reaches for her next interest. And this especially extends to her family and friends. Junko may lack commitment to her hobbies, but she yearns to follow her father’s example, and show up for her family whenever she can. Backstory​

Junko was born in Busan, South Korea to Jeong-won Maeng and a Japanese woman. Junko knows little about her absent mother, and has a sister who's one year older. Like her sister, Hayami, Junko was given a Japanese name. Though, the three of them resided in Busan for most of Junko's childhood.​

Around the age of 10, Junko's primary school teachers noticed she had a high aptitude for several academic and creative subjects. Loving every aspect of school, Junko begged her father to let her persue them all. In exchange for his blessing, she committed herself to working hard at every skill she learned: Thus began a pattern of traveling unaccompanied every 6-8 months between home, school, and various advanced education opportunities. From attending an outdoorsy summer camp in the Austrian alps, to becoming one of several junior assistants on an archeological dig site in Jordan, Junko seems to have done it all.​

All except sit still, anyhow. With so many Maengs congregating in Karakura, including her own sister and father, Junko grew lonely and a little jealous that so many of her relatives had developed stable lives and relationships with each other without her. Junko loves the friends and memories she's made around the world. But it's left her feeling like nowhere in particular is truly "home". Not to mention, Junko knew her constant traveling couldn't be easy on her family in any way.​

Always happy to do whatever she pleases, Junko packed her bags once more and enrolled herself at Karakura High for the Spring semester of 2026. She now lives in Karakura, making it her personal mission to reacquaint herself with as much of the Maeng family as possible and amass dozens upon dozens of friends!​
