briefing
yawen is a chinese transfer student at karakura high school. she stands at the height of 5 '7, weighing somewhere between 130-135 pounds. tired, brown eyes are decorated by messy black eyeshadow and mascara, which is usually covered by unkempt, dark black hair. she wears loose fitting clothes, often in dark colors.

inner
in contrast with her laid-back, messy appearance, yawen actually follows a routine every morning, which, if messed with, will make it everyone’s problem. it’s likely she’s somewhere on the autism spectrum. additionally, she struggles severely with gender incongruence (aka gender dysphoria), while her dysphoria has been cleared a bit by taking feminizing hormones, yawen feels out of place with her body. she prefers not to talk about her transition with the general population.

biography
on a fiery night sometime in august, 2006, yu yawen was born to her mother, gao xiuying, 19, and her father, yu yan, 25. yawen’s parents had a rocky relationship, often ebbing between extreme hatred for the other and unconditional lust. the second oldest out of four kids, yawen never really enjoyed her family. they were poor, and lived in the xinjiang slums. her father cooked food at a poor-performing restaurant and her mother worked as a cashier and janitor.

from an early age, yawen was ‘troubled’. she suffered from gender dysphoria, which often manifested itself in the form of extreme anger. with time, however, she turned to more illicit methods, such as drugs, ‘dates’, and alcohol. she kept track of her grades though- obsessing over her school work. she believed if she planned out her life, she could marry a nice girl (even though she didn’t really like them), have kids, and be a professor of literature at harvard. or some other prestigious university where the professors all make 100k a year.

unfortunately for yawen, her parents kicked her out once they discovered her girls clothing– sending her to the streets. she called her hippie aunt, wei, in a desperate attempt to secure her life. wei lived in a moderately sized city somewhere in japan, she described it as a ‘sleepy city with a large international community and a good school’. wei paid for yawen’s flight to japan, and allotted her an allowance every month. yawen started to enjoy life, beginning her medical transition with the little money she had from her aunt and from working. she began to enjoy karakura, japan..
