Describe your activity:
I play School RP as my primary outlook for creativity and fun, and usually play at least three hours a day. I do think avoiding being burnt out is something that is incredibly important to enjoying something, so I make sure to not push myself and to take breaks if I need them. I am just starting college, so my activity has wound down a little bit, but I still play pretty actively. I am very active on Discord, and try my best to reply to things as soon as I can. If I am needed for something, I have a fairly decent chance of being able to make it. The times listed below are the times that I am free. What is your motivation to apply for reporter?:
SRP is by its very nature, centered around writing. All the roleplay from emotional DetailRP, stabbing someone in the liver, being stabbed in the liver, and fixing someone’s stabbed liver, all of that is tied together by creative writing. This means that every faction is tied to creative writing as well, in different ways. The reporter faction does creative writing in a slightly different way, with the publishing of reports. Pieces of short stories like those are incredibly fun to me to both read and write. I would love to apply my love of creative writing and short stories to SRP. Making a character that is also a writer makes the character fun to play because you get to write pieces from the character’s perspective. My favorite book of all time is House of Leaves, which is a story within a story, written by an unreliable narrator(s). The thing that makes the book so interesting to me is that you can get a sense of the personalities and traits of the different characters in different parts of the story, just by how they are telling that particular part of the story. House of Leaves is a weird and hard to read book, but the part I would love to take away from it and apply to writing as a reporter is the sense of the character being the writer. Deep characterization can come from reading something written by them, just as you can get a sense of an author by reading their work.

Do you have any experience with writing? What is your relationship with writing?:
I used to get jealous of people with incredible visual arts skills, a friend group of mine was full of incredible artists, and I always felt like the odd one out not being able to create something beautiful like they were able to. This changed when I realized that I had a passion and capability for writing as my creative outlook in life. I took a creative writing class in my last year of high school, mostly because I thought it would be an easy English class. I didn’t expect to learn that creative writing would be a fun and interesting thing that I wanted to do more of. Even though I can’t draw anything well, even stick figures, writing has let me express myself creatively which has helped me on a personal level. I have always loved to read, reading fictional stories has pretty much made me the person I am today. Taking up writing as a hobby has allowed me to channel my creative energy through fiction writing, which has been something I have always loved.

Are you aware of - and will follow - the set of rules provided to you?:
Yes.

Why should we accept you over others?:
I don’t like to talk about myself over others, because I feel like I would sound like I have a massive ego, which I don’t have at all. I will say that I have been extremely active on SRP. Even if I haven’t had the experience of being in a faction previously, I am a respectful person who understands the gravity that being in a faction gives. I would be an active member of the reporter faction, using this as a chance to learn more about the nuisances of the server and provide more roleplay opportunities.

Do you understand you have to stay completely neutral with all reports? (Your report can't have any OOC or IC bias towards a specific group.)
Yes. I know that people can be biased and not even know it, but I will try my best to not lean one way or another on my reports. It’s important to provide clear information for others that may not be as aware of the topic.

Do you trust that you will be able to stay active and complete the monthly quota?:
Yes, one of the reasons I want to be a reporter is to find more stuff to do on SRP that I would enjoy. I feel like I have enough free time that staying active and doing the monthly quota would not be a problem for me.

Summarize what you imagine work as a reporter is:
As a reporter, it’s your job to write news reports on topics to make the public more aware of them. A lot of the time, there are roleplay interactions that a lot of people don’t get to see, just because of how big the server can be at times. Since not everyone can directly interact with these things, reporters writing news articles about them are an important way to help others become aware of events on the server they didn’t have the opportunity to see. Reporters also make broadcasts across Karakura with simple information, which helps breathe life into the server. Alongside that, reporters can interview people to learn about certain topics so they can use them for their reports. Reporter’s work is important to keep the people informed and up to date on events on the server.

IC (In-Character) Information:
A man stumbles into the interview room, thirty minutes late. His outfit is an almost ugly mix of a green button up shirt, bright but not neon yellow pants, and an ugly tie that looks like a vomit of colours. Looking at the man, you can tell that he has been well acquainted with the practice of ingesting alcohol, a product that has bloated his face and created the mess of wrinkles in front of you. You can see dark wrinkles under his eyes, they seem to be more so a part of the person he is now, rather than a sign of him being tired. The man steps forward, sitting down in a chair across from you. He leans back to left, and then the right, and then back to the left, before sitting up straight for a moment, only to settle back on leaning to the right.

Full Name:
You ask the man for his full name, and for a second you get scared by a look of uncertainty on his face. Honestly though, by taking another look at him, you wouldn’t be surprised if he had forgotten his own name. Still would be scary.
“Hubert D’Astous.”
The man’s voice is raspy and has clearly been abused by cigarettes, but at the same time it isn’t completely unpleasant to listen to. It really could have been a lot worse. You get confirmation of that abuse when you smell the mix of cigarettes and alcohol on his tongue. You aren’t sure if those are from a very recent time, or from a prolonged time that has stuck to his breath. In all honesty, it seems like it could be both.

Preferred Name/Nickname and Title (e.g., Ms, Mr):
“Hu is fine, and I guess if I need a title Mr. will do, Mr. D’Astous.”
He speaks in a very casual, cordial tone. A vast contrast to the mild visual eyesore that is himself, it does get a little easier to look at him.

Current Age (25+):
Again, like asking his name, you get nervous when you hear a pause and the same look of uncertainty on his face. Your eyes widen for a second when you see the man closing his eyes and holding up fingers. He seems to be counting, but the fingers he holds up make no sense for counting age.
“I’m 37 years of age.”
His voice sounded tired when he spoke his age. A realization comes to you, that he hadn’t almost forgotten his age due to drinking, but through the years he has gone through. The drinking and other questionable parts of his character seem to be the effect, rather than the cause.

Past job/work experience:
You tilt your head and wonder what type of job this man could have had in the past. Was he even employed, or even capable of being employed?
“I used to work for a French news company as an investigative journalist, for about seven years. They hired me after a year or two of private eye work.”
Wow, an actual career, and it’s relevant to this interview. It’s probably the second most shocking thing about this man. And then he continues.
“For two years, I worked as a carpenter working on wine barrels. The year prior I was a wine taster, before getting fired for tasting too much of the wine. I spent three years trying to perfect my familial artisan craft of sculpture work, before getting disowned. And my first job was as a zookeeper for five years.”
What the fuck. You blink and take a breath. I guess it’s good that he can remember this, you were afraid he didn’t remember his name after all. But at the same time, he has had such a random assortment of jobs, it leaves you shocked for a moment. A fucking zookeeper for five years?

Degree/qualifications:
“I have a bachelor’s degree in journalism, and my private investigation license from France.”
Somehow he got through college, you wonder if that’s where the partying started, or if that’s just always been a piece of him.

Nationality and born location:
“French, born and raised.”
Despite his words, his tone leaves little to no pride for his home country. You don’t wonder why, it doesn’t seem like it has treated him well. But then again, you wonder if this place would be any better?

Phone Number:
This time, he actually reaches into his shirt pocket, and pulls out a small index card. He’s holding it so you can see the lined section, he has clearly written his phone number on the blank side with no lines. It must be a new number for him, perhaps he’s looking for a fresh start? Or he has lost everything and this is his last chance? Both of those could be true.
“030-411-0429”

How would you describe yourself in under 150 words?:
“Life has been hard for me. I'm a drunk, I think I’m a little sick right now, and I haven’t been home in years. I’m sure that’s apparent to you. I’m not here to sell you a pity story, I don’t deserve that. I’m just trying to say that there’s more to me than just that. I was hired as an investigative journalist for a reason, I was able to crack open people’s secrets by talking to them. I’m not saying I’m this super fucking smart charisma haver. I just mean there’s more to me than my worn exterior.” He gives a little ****y grin, he almost looks egotistical, but you both know he doesn’t have much to be egotistical about.

What are you interested in writing about? How will you achieve this, and would you consider going out of your comfort zone?:
The man leans back in his chair, so far that the chair’s front two legs raise off the floor. The man rocks back and forth a little, using his legs to balance himself and the chair. He closes his eyes and takes a breath, thinking to himself, when he messes up his balancing act slightly, and the chair quickly falls forward, into its normal position.
“Well, I was an investigative journalist, and I looked into problems that affected people’s day to day living. I would prefer to continue this writing, because I feel like someone has to look into these sorts of things. To do this, I’d do what I did in the past, go around and ask people questions about things until I get pointed in the right direction. Of course, this doesn’t mean I won’t write about other topics, I understand that there are lots of things that are interesting to others, such as events, that reporters need to also report on, and I would also go about reporting on those.”

What are your expectations for the job?:
“Expectations?” The man’s eyes seem to scan you for a second, almost lazily. Despite that, he still tilts his head and seems deep in thought. “Well, obviously reporting on a decently consistent basis. But I also think I would have to uphold the expectations of being a reporter. Wear my best tie and my best suit, that sort of thing.” You really, really hope the tie he’s wearing isn’t his “best tie”.

Do you have a criminal record? If so, list the crimes below:
You see the man blink for a second, before hearing him simply answer.
“Nothing besides getting kicked out of a few bars in Paris.”
Honestly? Surprising, but it also wouldn’t surprise you if there were a few run-ins with the law that went unmentioned.

Fluent Languages (Underline your native):
“French, Japanese. I’m not much of a linguist, but I managed to struggle my way through learning Japanese for work.”

PROMPTS:
You will have to write two reports about a topic of your choice. Here we can see how pronounced your writing is and how creative you are. Use your own formatting and your own report idea. (If you're found plagiarizing an actual report or another applicant, you will be denied.)

#1 - General report. Report about a topic, informing players about an event or significant issues to Karakura.

Karakura News: A Karakuran A-TRASH-CITY
When wandering around any city, it’s inevitable that you’re going to see some pieces of trash, Karakura is no different I know the sometimes you may let a candy bar wrapper fly away from you but this is not about that. This is about large areas of trash that have been neglected by the government and the community.
Next to the text, there would be an image of a few bottles, cans, and other miscellaneous litter piled up next to a table at the Shicho Park. Photograph was taken at 11/13/2025.
Here is a photograph taken right outside of the police department. Notice the trash piling up alongside the fence. Litter can be due to negligence from law enforcement, but also due to inconvenience, or economic conditions. I feel like this issue hasn’t been addressed, both by the people and the government.
Next to the text would a photograph of the alleyway next to the KPD building. There would be small amounts of trash scattered throughout. The Photograph was from the Kaigan District, taken on 11/13/2025.
I think, that the Karakura community can come together to address the issue of litter by organizing events to make the city a better place to leave. Community clean ups of the parks would be a good place to start. I don’t believe many people like to visit places with bottles and trash just laying around. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy a good drink, but at least I know how to pick up after myself. This community should get together in awareness and to help clean the city.
Next to the text would be an image of a stairway that leads into a slightly underground alley. There is trash cans and more trash scattered through the alley. The photograph was taken on 11/13/2025 in the Kaigan District, east of G Complex.
The phone number for the reporter hotline would be posted, (020)-980-4487. The personal line for the reporter, as well as his name, Hubert D'Astous would be posted as well, (030)-411-0429.

#2 - Interview. It's important to have well-rounded questions. Create your own interview with ten questions or more. And answer them yourself.

[!] An audio file, press play? [!]
“This interview will be about how Karakura is for new residents. I am also a new resident, so this interview will be a good look into the city for myself, as well as other new arrivals.”
[!] The hard click of a tape recording would be heard. Then, the sound of ruffling clothing would be heard, slightly too loud, the audio isn’t properly adjusted for that. The audio comes through a little muffled, before the sounds of more clothing adjustment clears the audio. This audio file was clearly recorded at a different time than the intro, the audio mixing feels completely different. [!]
H: Represents interviewer
I: Represents interviewee

H: “Where are you from, originally?”
I: “I was born and raised away in Seoul, I moved here when I was about thirteen years old for education, and have stayed ever since.”

H: “What has caused you to stay here?”
I: “Well, I originally didn’t know a lot of people in this town, and I was only expected to stay through high school. But during my schooling experience, I had come to become more intertwined with the community here. I have made both friends and family here, and we consider this place our home.”

H: “You say a large part of the reason you stayed here is the community, what would you say is a good way to interact with this community, especially as a newcomer?”
I: “It’s hard to say anything specific, and if I try to say something as general as ‘just try talking to people’, it doesn’t really sound like great advice. I found my first friends in high school by joining one of the clubs, it was specifically the photography club. It was a good way to find people with a similar interest to me that we could bond over.”

H: “What places like this outside of the school environment would you recommend for this?”
I: “Well, I’m still in college so I still spend a lot of time in school, but I do know that if you’re looking for some place to hang out with kind people, the shrine is a great place for that. Even if you don’t practice Shintoism, the shrine is an open space that allows people to interact with each other.”

H: “I’ve heard that more people have been going to the forest and zen garden recently, do you know anything about that?”
I: “Well, I believe the reason for the newfound interests in the area would be the recent additions to them. The zen garden is a peaceful region to relax and get away from the stress of the city. The forest does a similar thing too.”

H: “You’ve mentioned a lot about nature in your answers, is that something that you enjoy?”
I: “Yes! As I mentioned, going outside and being with nature is how I tend to decompress in life. I joined the photography club because I wanted to take photos of nature and share them with people like me, and that’s what I found.”

H: “Decompressing? What parts of the city stress you out?”
I: “Well… I don’t mean that’s a bad city, I just mean that some parts can get a lot at times. Looking for a place to work, getting school work done, dealing with friend stuff. Sometimes that’s too much for me, and I go to be with nature to relax.”

H: “What’s one negative part of the city that you would tell a new person about?”
I: “Hm. There isn’t something in particular I would say. People can be generally friendly, but sometimes they can have alternative motives. Crime in some parts of the city can be bad, and some people might try to rope you into it. I would try to stay away from people in that kind of life, for your own safety.”

H: “What’s something you’d like to see changed about the city?”
I: “I like a lot of the new changes they have made, I mentioned the zen garden and the forest previously. I think having more outdoor places to hang out would be nice to make the city feel more lively. Maybe add some more features in those parks, I don’t know.”

H: “Okay last question. Would you recommend the city for someone who has lost almost everything and everyone, someone with no other place to turn but here, miles away from their home, where they grew up and started to spiral. Is Karakura a good place for this person? Hypothetically.”
I: “Uh- I… I guess so…? That sounds really specific is this about-”
H: “Thank you for your time!”

[!] A quick click of a tape recorder! Ending the recording. [!]
