Out-Of-Character Information

What is your Minecraft username?:

JustACan {Main}
_CannedCorn {The one applying with}

Do you have Discord (If so, what is your discord username?):
.justacan

How old are you? (Optional):
18+

What is your time zone?:
Eastern Standard Time [EST]

Describe your activity on the server:

I aim to be online as often as possible, generally spending most nights online for at least three or four hours at a time. I do like to give myself a break here or there but nothing that would keep me from fufilling the expected quota or keep me from engaging in worthwhile rp's!

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive you will be demoted?:

I acknowledge this responsibility, and I will do everything in my power to not become at risk of this factor.

School Employee Role you are applying for?:

Receptionist

In as much detail as possible, describe the employee role you are applying for:

The receptionist is often the first faculty member students encounter on their walk through the school; they set the tone and greet everyone who walks up those stairs into the main lobby. They handle specific responsibilities, such as providing information or offering assistance to both students and faculty members alike. They are the central hub of information within the school walls. There's a sense of duty that comes with the position. Many new players see this person and can immediately recognize that they are someone of importance, someone who can help them navigate the school environment.

What experience, in general, do you have in roleplay?:

I’ve been participating in roleplays for countless years. It started with dnd back in middle school, it was fun adventuring around as whimsical characters. I was introduced to the idea of Minecraft roleplays through well-known names like Aphmau and SamGladiator way back in the day. They sparked my interest and led me to this new medium of RP soon after I found myself on the relic MCPZ, an old Minecraft server that was super popular back in the day. Teleporting to people's plots, joining their roleplays with absurd stories and plot lines. I stayed there until the trend died out and I hit a sort of lull. Until COVID hit and we were all sent home, that's when I discovered this server, and I've been stuck to it like glue ever since. Spending my time as a high school tag all the way up to a Master's college tag, I think i stressed more about those exams than my actual ones. . I’ve also spent some time on MazeRP, not as much as I’d like to, but it definitely consumed a lot of my time when it first came out.

Why do you want to join the School Employee faction?:

I’ve been playing on SRP for going on four or five years now, and I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time online, making new friends and creating fun new characters to build whole stories around. Yet, in all those years, not once have I had the courage to apply for any faction. I guess I’ve always been too worried I wouldn’t be able to do well in any of the roles. I lacked experience, and despite wanting to give it a shot, I wasn’t really confident enough in myself to take on such a role. It took some time, a lot of time, and the encouragement of several of my friends to give me the boost in confidence I needed to take this next step.

I’ve always thought that school was where everything happened. It’s where a majority of the server's player base spends their time, and that’s precisely where I want to be. Front and center, talking to people and being able to engage with others, regardless of whether it’s school time or not. I’d be lying if I said I wasn't nervous even just writing this application, but at the same time, I’m excited to try something new and really push myself to be better.

During a work-shift a student starts cursing at you for being pathetic, how does your character react?:

Gardenia Bloom sat calmly behind her desk, hands clasped together gently on the surface. The words hurt, of course, but that is all they were. Words. With a polite smile, the receptionist finally piped up. “I do appreciate your enthusiasm and dedication to this act; however, you must know that this is far from kind.” Her gaze was soft, an understanding flickering in the green hues. Not everyone has had a pleasant life; each student deserves the benefit of the doubt. Sliding a swirled lollipop across the wooden desk with a lovely smile, “Why don’t we sit down together and have a nice chat instead?”

You notice two students are physically fighting in the hallway, – multiple punches have been thrown – how does your character react?:

The first thing that came to the woman’s mind upon seeing such a violent display was.. I’m going to need help. Pulling herself from the seated position she had been in, reaching to grab the radio sat in front of her, she held it up and pressed down on the button to speak. ‘This is Miss Bloom. There’s an altercation involving two students in the front south hallway. Punches have been thrown, I’d like to request additional assistance with the situation.’ Of course, there was no waiting around, not with a commotion like that. Pushing through the crowd, her voice raised enough to be heard by the two. “That’s enough, you two, break it up!”

Another school employee is clearly acting inappropriately, doing something very dangerous on the job, how does your character react?:

Miss Bloom stopped in her tracks; the copper-haired woman simply could not believe her eyes. The display before was baffling and just.. Downright dangerous. Her pace quickened as she approached her co-worker, “Oh my days, you nearly spooked the quills right off my back like a porcupine!” she exclaimed, making a note to scan the area for any students who may be watching, “Now you know better than to do something like that, We’ve got to set a good example for these kids. Why don’t’cha put a stop to this so I don’t have to report this to the higher ups, hm?” Offering up one of her signature ‘sweet-as-pie’ smiles to lighten the mood.

When in the employee break room, how does your character act?

Gardenia had arrived early with the intention of brewing the first pot of coffee for her coworkers to enjoy. She herself was never fond of the taste unless mounds of cream and sugar drowned it out, but it was the kind gesture that mattered to her. She knew how nice it was to have a fresh, warm pot ready to go so early in the morning, so while her coworkers sipped the daily cup of joe, Gardenia fancied herself some chai, sipping it quietly while engaging in light banter among colleagues. Trading stories from days past, listening to updates on their lives and showing a respectful amount of interest in such topics.

Provide us with at least three detailed /me's of your character whilst on your chosen role:

/me Idly tapped her nails in a certain way, creating a quiet symphony of clacking, following the rhythm of the newest song stuck in the woman's head until a figure appeared in her window. Emerald hues, full of warm light, lifted to meet the gaze of the student who had approached the desk. With a smile, she spoke up confidently in a welcoming tone. “Well, hi there! What can I help you with today?” Offering the chance for the student to pose their question and waiting patiently to help.

/me Took the opportunity to turn her attention to the computer that sat to her side. Now that the students had all begun to attend the current period's classes, she found the time to browse her emails. Looking through faculty messages to ensure she stays on top of the latest school news, she darted her gaze over each word carefully. A hum slipped from her as her green nails tacked against the keyboard as she took the time to write out a few responses, checking over her spelling before hitting send. What a productive afternoon this was for the woman.

/me Was delighted by the bustling halls in the early morning, sunlight pouring in from the steps. Students form into their groups as conversations play out just out of earshot. Her gaze shifted away from the growing crowds, focusing on the coworker who often sat next to her behind the reception desk, where she offered her usual warm smile. “Today is going to be a good day.” Words she says each morning, a hopeful affirmation that the day would play out swimmingly. It wasn’t something she expected a response to, though she wouldn’t be upset if someone spoke up about it; just words that fueled her upbeat nature- turning her attention back to the students as she waited to help whoever came to her window.

Backstory
It all started with a woman. She worked at the front desk of Gardenia Bloom's grandfather's dental office- kind, funny, and effortlessly great with people. "You have to be in this line of work," she would say, "I'm the first person someone talks to when they arrive, so it's my job to make their day and help them with their needs." At the time, the words didn't quite stick; Gardenia was too young to understand the meaning behind them. She simply enjoyed the woman's smile and the way she played with her while she waited for her grandfather to finish work for the day. On lunch breaks, the two would explore the mall together, browsing for new toys or quirky gadgets to surprise the other workers with, and buying matching outfits to parade around the office in.

Time passed, as it always does. As life grew busier and Gardenia got older, she spent less time at the office, instead focusing on school and her friends. When she finally showed up again, wearing her favourite of the matching outfits, she discovered that the woman was no longer behind the desk. A new smile greeted her, one that only recognized her from pictures in her grandfather's private office. Still, there was the same warmth and kindness in the newcomer's eyes. So Gardenia let herself forget and eventually moved on.

High school, however, was its own challenge. Being pressured to decide what to do for the rest of one's life while still a teenager is a terrifying thing, and it certainly was for her. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do; she didn't feel she had any particular skills worth pursuing, nor did she have an interest in following her family's tradition of dentistry. She was stuck at an impasse, uncertain of where to go next.

But then it hit her. She knew how to smile and how to be kind. Those, she realized, were the most essential parts of the job.

Gardenia decided to follow in the footsteps of that woman from her childhood, someone whose name she couldn't recall and whose face had faded from memory, yet whose impression lingered deeply. Her kindness and dedication inspired Gardenia to pursue a career in the reception field, where she could make a positive impact on people's lives every day.
Of course, a decision alone wouldn't carry her to her goal; it would take time, effort, and determination. So began her long and tireless college journey, earning her diploma in Business Administration. It was demanding work that took two full years, but she graduated on time, and with honours to boot. The weight of the journey and the satisfaction of success were indescribable, and it set the foundation for her future career.

Through a college job fair, she met a wonderful future boss who soon hired her to manage the reception desk at an English Language Institute. There, instructors taught English to students learning it as a second language, a fascinating experience to witness from her desk. Gardenia managed calls, student inquiries, and other reception duties, finding the work both enjoyable and rewarding, just as she hoped it would be. It gave her a newfound appreciation for the process of learning another language and the considerable effort that truly goes into it, especially later in life. Her joy in the work was palpable, a true testament to the fulfillment of pursuing one's passion.

Her time at the institute also sparked a new hobby: learning Japanese. She would chat with students before class, speaking to them in English while they taught her a few Japanese words in exchange, simple greetings and polite expressions.

In the evenings, she began attending night classes to study the language more seriously, all while saving up for a trip to Japan. She knew she'd need enough funds to qualify for a student visa, enough to cover tuition and living expenses. She saved up every nickel and dime she could, with the clear goal in her mind of studying abroad. Until finally, she found herself standing at the gate of a plane, ready to board and fly to a country where she knew no one, with only her hopes and her dreams keeping her going.

It didn't take long for Gardenia to settle into her new life and routine. Most of her days were spent in classes; she took her studies seriously, although she also found time to interact with those she shared the classroom with. Finding comfort in those who were also learning, they worked together through things with ease. It wasn't shocking to note Gardenia was a quick study; her can-do attitude most certainly made things a breeze, seeing as she never gave up. If there were something she had a hard time with, she would always find a new way to look at it. Her adaptability was a clear demonstration of the power of resilience.

Alongside her language studies, she took on a part-time role at a local cram school, once again as a receptionist. This job not only provided her with a sense of fulfillment but also served as a platform to practice her Japanese, thereby enhancing her language skills and preparing her for her dream job.

A school, way out on an island with a terrible reputation. It seemed like the worst place someone could choose to visit, and yet the population was nothing to laugh at. It certainly beat out the population of her small hometown. If there was anywhere she wanted to go where she thought she could make a difference, it was there- Karakura's very own connected High School and College.

With great pride, she graduated at the top of her class. Her work visa had been filed and accepted once she was offered a full-time position at the cram school she had assisted during her studies. Yet, her mind always drifted off to the school across the water and when word of a space opening up, a receptionist position no less, she jumped at the opportunity and submitted her resume with no hesitation.

Pending the acceptance of her application, Gardenia set out for Karakura, filled with excitement about what this new chapter may bring.

Motivation for Joining KHS (Character perspective):

“I know it’s not every little girl's dream to sit behind a desk and answer phones and emails all day- why, it wasn’t even mine until I was faced with the realization that I wasn’t smart like those science kids or athletic like the jocks in high school. But what I did have was an above-average typing speed and a good heart. And, someone once told me- now, I’m paraphrasing her, but- To be in this profession, well, you’ve gotta have on your best smile and be willing to help those who come to you. I do believe I can do it, I’ve had my fair share of experience in this line of work, and I just know, this school is the right fit for me.”

Why should you be accepted over the other applicants?:

“My whole career thus far has been in schools; I’ve seen how they operate, and I know the systems. Why, I’m certain there ain’t a problem I can’t solve if you just gave me the time to prove myself. I have always been a hardworking woman, even during school, where I worked and still managed to finish with stellar grades. Nothing is a little determination and an optimistic outlook can’t handle. . . ! What I’m trying to say is, on paper, I’ve got all the skills to be great at this job, but that’s not why I want you to consider me. I want you to know, should you hire me, I’ll put my heart an’ soul into this job. I’ll treat those kids with kindness and help show them the way, not because I have to, but because I love what I do.”
