What's the title of your suggestion?: Add Texture Emission to Lightsabers
What's your suggestion?:
Lightsabers have always been quite the popular item, especially among new players. Many of us (including myself) have probably taken part in some epic lightsaber duels in the past. However, one key feature has always been missing: the glow. Fact is, lightsabers don’t actually emit any light in-game, which takes away from their visual appeal.
To fix this, I suggest making the blade part of the lightsaber emissive so it glows in the dark (keep in mind they won't actually emit any actual dynamic light that affects the surrounding blocks). There are two ways to implement this depending on the server’s recommended Minecraft version:
For 1.21.2+:
It’s quite easy; Just right-click the element(s) of the model that should glow, then click the Light Emission button to enable the model's emissiveness. It's pretty straight-forward and only takes a few clicks to implement.
For older versions:
There’s a tutorial available that explains how to manually set up emissive textures. However, I’d recommend holding off until the server updates to a newer version so the Media Lead can avoid unnecessary work and use the simpler method mentioned first.
Moreover, this trick could also be used in other models too; be it lanterns, street lights, or any other light-emiting item/furniture. For the sake of clarity, I've used the default Blockbench template textures and applied emissiveness to them to showcase how it'd look like. Though, of course, this could be applied to any model on SRP! ^^
The picture on the left shows the model with no emissiveness, whereas the one on the right does show emissiveness and therefore glows in the dark.
How will this benefit the server and community?:
This simple change could bring a lot to roleplay immersion, specially with shaders that integrate texture emissiveness into their light dynamics. Moreover, granted that the server is using 1.21.2 or above, it should be quite easy to make this change, as all this button does is modify a single value in the model's json, thus not affecting compatibility or causing unnecessary headaches.
