What's the title of your suggestion?: Allow players to delete their own forums posts
What's your suggestion?:
Summary
Allow users on the SchoolRP forums to delete threads they’ve created, mostly in cases where a thread is posted accidentally or an application is submitted before it’s finished.
How feasible is this?
Based on SchoolRP’s current forum permissions structure (as far as I'm aware*), this feature should be fully supported. There is an option that can grant users permission to delete only their own threads without allowing them to delete others'. To sum up, this feature already exists, but is not currently enabled.
As for how long it would take to implement this core idea, it should only take a few minutes, meaning that it's not a big time investment for a feature that many users would enjoy.
Why is this necessary?
It’s common to see users edit thread titles and content to "DELETE" or "." as a workaround when they no longer want their thread to be visible, usually because they either submitted their thread too early, or because they changed their mind on applying for a faction.
This sometimes makes the forums seem messy, with many Reviewed Applications sub-forums being filled with threads titled "Deleted" (most likely because they'd rather not have others see their past work now that their application was reviewed.)
Implementing this will make it much easier for both users and staff, the latter of which won't have to go through the process of staff-deleting all these threads.
What about moderation?
A valid counter-argument to this suggestion is that staff wouldn't be able to moderate the contents of the deleted threads. However, the current forums software includes tools that can help staff face this issue:
*Additional Notes
This suggestion is based on the features available in the forums license SchoolRP uses. If there are technical limitations or any other issues that might make it harder or impossible to implement this idea, I’d be happy to hear more! ^^
Moreover, a simple forums search illustrates the need for users to find a way to delete their threads and restrict its view from anyone on the internet (For the sake of privacy, I've censored the identity of the thread posters):
How will this benefit the server and community?:
As stated earlier, many players find themselves unable to delete threads and use other ways to prevent others from viewing their content. While yes, it is possible to currently just edit your thread's content away, the fact that the thread is still there allows others to monitor their activity, which eventually leads up to concerns relating to their own digital footprint.

A valid counter-argument to this suggestion is that staff wouldn't be able to moderate the contents of the deleted threads. However, the current forums software includes tools that can help staff face this issue:
- View Deleted Threads. Staff can be granted permission to view deleted threads, allowing them to monitor and restore content if necessary.
- Permanent Thread Deletion. Staff Higher-Ups (S.A.+'s) can be given access to a button that lets them delete a thread permanently, preventing any other staff member from ever viewing their contents. This can come in handy if a thread contains sensitive information that Moderators or Helpers shouldn't be able to see.
- Deletion Discord Webhook. Additionally, staff could also use a webhook that automatically sends a notification whenever a thread has been deleted, thus making it easier to know if a user has sent something inappropriate and then deleted it immediately after.
