Auction house report
8/26/2025 - 8/27/2025 | Faust

Brief Introduction

Hi there! Do you sometimes get curious about how many items there are in auction, their varieties, what sells/doesn't sell, and all that other goodness?
Be curious no more! I've gone through the painstaking task of scraping auction data, and I'll keep this effort up for a week (or more if there's something interesting!)

With all that said, shall we review some data? And yes, spreadsheets are provided. If you just want to check for daily items without having to log on, this is your lucky day (and coming week)!

Anälysis

Are you curious on how what usually sells and what doesn't? How much money is moved on bought items? Look no further!

Total volume

8/26/2025 - 19,511,441 yen. With an average of 36884 yen
8/27/2025 - 18,735,506 yen. With an average of 39778 yen

Expired items & Sales made

8/26/2025 - 160 items are expired/removed.
8/26/2025 -> 8/27/2025 - 99 items that are either sold/pulled out. 3,772,440 yen in total transaction.

Frequency of expired/removed items:
NameCount
Japanese2
Lantern2
Earrings2
Koinobori1
(...and many others. There is not really a trend on unsold expired/items aside from not being from the sold/pulled out item group)

Frequency of sold/pulled out items:
NameCount
Toy8
Set6
Plushie6
Flower6
Backpack5
Hello Kitty things5
Earrings5
Piercing4
Board3

This should give a fairly decent idea of what sells in auction, which might not be too surprising. Plushies, toys, flower-related cosmetics, backpacks, and hello kitty item seems to be a hot thing.

Items that aren't sold seems to be miscellaneous, and we can tell that this isn't a coincidence as there's almost no overlap on sold items and expired items.

We will see if this trend is consistent as we get more data points throughout the week!

An anti-join of yesterday's items that have not expired against today's items. All items that are left are either sold/pulled out.

Frequency is an n-gram of 1-gram to see popularity of items. 2 or 3-gram might be better, you can request me data and do ****ysis on your own if you wish

Margin profit anälysis

You might be wondering "how much money do auction flippers actually make on each sale?"

I will hold off on comparing the sell price vs prices at stores. This can de-value the market if it becomes public, and I would like auction flippers to have their fun.
If you are really curious about the data, contact me on discord. If I can confirm that you'll responsibly handle the data, I would be more than happy to give it to you.

Same goes for the "real" volume which uses shop prices to get the realistic valuation of the entire auction. Contact me if you need this information for your curiosity.

Closing remarks

I want this to serve as a fun case study of what sort of items are popular, often sold, and if they are usually over/undervalued.

If you are an auction flipper and would be happy for an interview for me to post about, please contact me. I am sure people would be interested on how much an auction flipper earns on average, and how much risk is actually involved in speculative assets.

I will do my best to reply to anything sent to me here or discord. Thank you for reading through my post, and hopefully I will see you on tomorrow's report.
