Accepted Biggest__Bee | Reporter Application

bigbeau

Level 1
OOC (Out-Of-Character) Information:

What is your In-Game-Name (IGN)?

Biggest__bee (two underscores)(the other two bee accounts are my friends)
Do you have Discord? If so, what is your username?:
@biggest__bee (two underscores)

List your timezone and country:
EST, U.S.A

Describe your activity:
I am fairly active, consistently playing between 1-3 hours a day, though some days it can go as high as 12. I tend to play longer on the weekends. I am free all day, every day, so my playtime depends upon whether I have anything to do.

What is your motivation to apply for reporter?:
I believe that it would be a very interesting position! I would like to participate in town events as a reporter, and I would especially like to hunt down information for my articles. One of the most interesting things to roleplay to me is reconnaissance. I like hunting down leads, acquiring information, and telling others, especially if that information could be a pivotal point in someone's story. If nothing else, there’s a simple joy in learning about some drama that you are entirely uninvolved in, then airing it out for all to see.

Moreover, my friend in the faction has told me that it’s just plain fun! He got to participate in the powerplant event as part of the newscrew, where he filmed the events as they happened. This seems fun, and, of course, appeals to me.

Do you have any experience with writing? What is your relationship with writing?:
I have been writing since I was fairly young—about seven or so—and have been participating in roleplay for approximately 2.5-3 years by this point. Writing is my favorite hobby, and the only hobby that has remained consistent over the course of such a long stretch of time.

Are you aware of - and will follow - the set of rules provided to you?:
Yes.

Why should we accept you over others?:
I hate questions like this! People, of course, have no reason not to lie. But if that man were God himself and were honest about his capabilities, he'd be struck down for not being humble. I give more-or-less the same answer every time I am asked a question in similar vein, which is: I am primarily collaborative. Nobody is a main character in a collaborative environment, we are all constantly learning, and we must all have the agency to further the stories of both ourself and others.

Collaboration, of course, is the most important aspect to this. You can be the dumbest idiot, just an absolute lamp, but be loved so long as you are collaborative. It is better to have a stupid, fulfilling story, than a one-sided and unfulfilling story. Fulfilling, of course, is in regards to being satisfying for all parties involved. This may not be possible in some scenarios, but in those cases we must still strive to please as many people as we can without acting completely out-of-character.

Second to collaboration is agency. All must understand that they, solely they, must act to further their story. Nothing else can be done, nobody can be expected to advance your story for you—yet, you should also be looking to help others in their story. Assume you’ll never be assisted while assisting all others. The reason you should accept me over others is because I hold these values close to my heart when I am in a roleplay environment. Collaboration is key, and agency is its prince.

Do you understand you have to stay completely neutral with all reports? (Your report can't have any OOC or IC bias towards a specific group.)
Of course. We are the news, not the lies.

Do you trust that you will be able to stay active and complete the monthly quota?:
One report a month is easy! You don’t have to worry in the slightest; I am fully confident that I can bang out a few pages a month. I am no lazybones.

Summarise what you imagine work as a reporter is:
Admittedly, I have a friend in the faction and have seen him do his work, both over screenshare and in-person as his assistant, so I already know what the work will be like. In fact, the main reason I want to join is because I know what the work is like, because I know that the work is fun and would allow me to further my character.

I imagine that work within the faction would, in the day-to-day, consist of deskwork and taking tips, though I also expect to be making my own fun through interviews and the gathering of information for relevant reports. An average day would probably just be taking calls on the hotline or sitting at the desk, while a few times a week I might be poking my nose around any notable new groups, scouting for notable figures, and putting together information from interviews.

And, of course, I’d take one-to-five days a month to write reports. Can’t forget that part.

IC (In-Character) Information:
Treat this section like it is your own character answering it

Full Name: Savo Di Maiori
(The name was penned in a practiced, curly Latin script, with its Katakana rendering situated neatly beneath.)
Preferred Name/Nickname and Title: Mr. Di Maiori, Fr. Di Maiori
(‘Fr.’ seemed to have been penned with greater care than ‘Mr.’, holding the slight inkbleed telling of a slow pace.)
Current Age: 26
Past job/work experience: Secretary of Mercato Di Maiori. Then, in subscript: He is my brother; discount this experience.
Degree/qualifications: N/A
Nationality and born location: Italian, Italy.
Phone Number: 030-741-7600
How would you describe yourself in under 150 words?: Succinct.
What are you interested in writing about? How will you achieve this, and would you consider going out of your comfort zone?:
I am most interested in writing about public opinion and political stories, seeing as that is what is most dynamic and interesting. Moreover, it is helpful, and we should strive to be helpful. I am quite ready to exit my comfort zone; that is the point, not the cost.
What are your expectations for the job?: I expect that there will be fun. There’s deskwork, which is boring, however, I will delight in writing my monthly reports—plural because I’m a hard worker—and, too, I will relish the authority that I will have to utilize the facilities of the station. An average day is likely to consist of polite deskwork supplemented by interviews, following through on tips, or writing.
Do you have a criminal record? If so, list the crimes below: Possession of an item without a prescription.
(This appeared jagged as though penned in hasty frustration.)
Fluent Languages (Underline your native): Japanese, Italian

Interview:

**A voice memo.**

* A masculine voice cleared his throat. *
‘Why are you taking this interview yourself?’

“I, ah… to put it bluntly, I’ve not a single friend willing to wake up at this hour. I’m filling this form out at…” The mic scuttled against a surface. “Three in the morning. Inspiration struck, I couldn’t help it! And I suppose this is following the directions rather proper-like—’answer them yourself.’ I wonder whether the intended reading is that I ask myself questions, or… Ah, I digress. I made my point.”

‘Next is…Could you go into specifics on the details of your criminal record?’

“Certainly! You see, I had this friend who succumbed to this terrible injury. Former wife, actually. I used to have a wife!” He barked out an unpleasant, humorless laugh. “But, ah, she did the stupidest thing actually… hopped off the side of a cliff. Clear down. Must’ve been ten, thirteen feet. Suffice it to say, she broke her ankle. Or ankles. Or legs. Something of the sort. Lady was on crutches for a while, and when she healed she handed the things off to me to hold onto. Well! Turns out you’re meant to have a prescription! A prescription for sticks! A stick! Singular. It was one.” The voice awkwardly paused. “Kept it on me long after our divorce, and a dang ol’ cop—God bless the KPD—happened to search me for being in the area for a crime. Found the stick, realized I had no prescription, boom: fined.”

‘What is your personal life like?’

“Awfully odd to ask me that, me… I should not be so rude to myself. I need to learn your manners.” He paused. “Sorry, wasn’t funny. Ah, my personal life is rather nice. I’ve a lovely, I tell you an absolutely wonderful family. In fact, Brother-dear, that is, Mercato Di Maiori, is he who encouraged me to offer myself up as an employee! Then there’s my sister Ao, and, of course, my darling niece Kaede. Family’s rather important to me, I’d say.”

‘What are your views on Karakura’s current political climate?’

“I find it interesting, to say the least. And how could I not? Anti-government sentiment is on the rise, there are scattered groups calling for either reform or upheaval—hell, laypeople now know the name of Katsuhito! He was hardly a blip for most of his tenure, but now a good twenty… or, well, five-to-ten percent of people have a genuine opinion on him. Strong opinions too; they’re awfully loud.”

‘What would you like your first report to be on?’

“I want my first report to be on the political climate—perhaps, specifically, on public sentiment regarding certain prominent figures; that is to say, people’s opinions on the political climate. I feel that we would all profit from seeing what the common man agrees on.”

‘Now, ah… oh, what principles do you live by?’

“People like principles, this is a good question! Ah… I suppose a principle of double effect. To quote my father, ‘an immoral action is justified if it is naught but the consequence of an intended good effect.’ Of course, there’s more nuance to it than that—it is merely how he’d, teach me as a child. You know, ‘killing in self defense is justified’ and whatnot. I suppose I also live by the golden rule. Everyone knows what the golden rule is.”

‘There are two buttons in front of you: one kills seven thousand men, the other kills seven quintillion shrimp. Which do you press?’

“Kill the shrimp. I always hated it when folks would grandstand about this question or similar ones… Sad is the man who values a shrimp, ten thousand, ten trillion shrimp over even one brother. ‘Maximize happiness and minimize suffering!’ Well forgive me for being biased toward my fellow creatures; heaven forbid I value them more than a toad.”

‘Why did you ask yourself that question?’

“Felt mad because somebody asked me that last week, fully believing it was better to kill the men. I think that they were being performative about it.”

‘Will you allow such microaggressions to worm their way into your reports?’

“No, I’ll be forcing my brother and niece to read over anything I write to catch such things beforehand. Checks and balances! Collaboration!”

‘How would you actually describe yourself, ignoring the rude quip you responded with?’

“Suppose I’d describe myself as a smartass. Not in an endearing way, either; I am no… ah. Hm. I do not know any loveable smartasses. Locke Lamora? But he’s not quite a huge cultural figure, and especially not in Japan.” He cleared his throat. “I would also say that I’m clever. Clever’s good, yeah?”

‘What previous experience do you have?’

“Much. I work and worked as Mercato Di Maiori’s secretary, which entails the boring work of attending meetings, noting information, taking calls… Ah, but then there’s the fun bout I had as an investigator. Not a proper one, not as a detective, though I passed off everything I had to detectives.” He hummed happily. “I was hunting down information on several gangs, back in the day… Wound up providing the force with a full member list for a gang called… Eh, forgot their proper name. People called them ‘The Web’ on account of them being super into spiders and such. Their leader even called herself Queen Arachnae—isn’t that a bit on-the-nose? Ah, I’m rambling. The short of it is that I have loads of practice in investigating such-and-such, and also so-and-so, and I do quite enjoy it.”

‘How do you feel about the state of crime in Karakura?’

“They’ve gotten rather sloppy at it. If I had a dime—if I had a Yen… No… If I had a thousand Yen for each time I’ve recorded a group of gangsters breaking a leg, I’d have two thousand Yen. How did that happen twice?” He laughed. “Then there was that fella I caught trying to kidnap some girl… My hope is that the police are at least slightly smarter than the criminals they hunt; we need them gone. Why, my darling niece Kaede was attacked by such-and-such a group… But I digress.”

‘Last question: where do you see yourself in ten years?’

“Ten years… That’s an awfully long time. Hopefully I’ve found a wife by then!” He paused without humor. “I see myself surrounded by my family, bless them. Perhaps I’ll have a few kids by then—adopted, of course. I hope that my friends are still by my side. Friends are good.”
