Can't age up

Me and a friend have been playing for atleast 4 hours, but, we never go up a grade? It always says we've reached the maximum grade, yet we're still grade 7.. Is this a glitch, or does it need to be manually set? Help! Our usernames are ShiniCupcake and FantazyKitty
