Quirks: When someone greets her in English and she doesn't know them very well, she tends to speak only in Tagalog to avoid an awkward conversation. However, when she grows pretty comfortable, she'll start speaking English back to them.

Backstory: A young woman named Margaret King moved from New York City to the city of Manila in the Philippines to pursue her education as a marine biologist at LPU (Lyceum of the Philippines University). There she met native Filipino Armando Cruz, who was 2 years older than her and studying for the same career as her at the same university. The two of them fell in love and instantly started dating. Unfortunately, Margaret had to drop out after her second year when she discovered some very life-changing news on Christmas night. On New Year's Eve 2000 Armando intended to propose to Margaret, and it was then when he also asked why she dropped out of school. Margaret told him the truth: she was 3 weeks pregnant with his baby; she dropped out because she wanted to take care of her then unborn baby without having to worry about studies. Armando was very happy to hear that he was going to be a father and immediately proposed to her right after she told him. Margaret happily accepted, and the two shared a kiss at midnight when the New Year came. Shortly after his graduation from university, Armando started his career as a marine biologist and got married to Margaret. Margaret gave birth to a baby girl, naming her Charmaine Anne Marie Cruz-King, on September 5, 2001 at 12:38 am. She was a stay-at-home mom for 4 years, living with Armando and his family during that time period. When Charmaine was 4 years old, Margaret started working a series of odd jobs to provide for her daughter, and Armando was able to afford a house. He moved the family out of his parents' house and moved to a new house but stayed in the same city (Manila). When Charmaine was 8 years old, Margaret was granted citizenship in the Philippines and enlisted in the Philippine Air Force. 2 years later, Margaret was deployed to Japan, where Charmaine now attends school, for the Air Force. Charmaine knows 2 languages; she learned English (which she is very fluent in) from her mother and Tagalog (which she is kind of fluent in) from her father. When Charmaine was in elementary school, she was very attracted to boys, but then she discovered that she was also very highly attracted to girls in middle school. On the last day of her first year of high school, Charmaine came out as bisexual to her parents, who were fully accepting of their daughter's sexual orientation. During the summer before Charmaine started her second year of high school, she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Today she follows a strict and (attempting to be) healthy self-medicated vegan diet as a result, trying to avoid the chances of Type 2 Diabetes in the future (sometimes she will eat sweets when she decides to take a cheat day). Now, Charmaine is just hoping her final year of high school is her chance to make as many friends as she can who accept her for who she is.
