[Grade-12] Elias Kurz
[Grade-12] Thomas Kurz

Describe your activity and roleplay experience on the server:
First of I am going to talk about my roleplay experience on the server. So, I started about a year ago now, possibly a little bit longer, by about 2 months, not too sure about that though sadly. I have had my fair share of roleplay opportunities. I love to do sports and meet different people there, interact with them and do stuff. But also, I love joining classes and doing the schoolwork. Roleplay with teachers and other faculty. Basically, I am really into the whole SchoolRP theme and don’t do too much else.Secondly, I want to talk about my activity. At the start of my SchoolRP journey I was skeptical and didn’t play much. After getting to know it better, I started to enjoy it though. The last few months I have been active. I am probably playing for at least 2 hours per day, longer if the school day is shorter or if I have too much free time. The only thing that stops me from playing is school or hanging out with friends. I am the most active on weekends and on holidays. But if you write to me on discord I’ll probably respond in a few minutes.

In your own words, why do you think professors are important to SchoolRP?:
I personally think they play an important role overall. They interact with other teachers and make a whole School community which the server is about in the first place. But the most important role they play is in college. They teach people who have graduated from high school and need more advanced education. They also build a valuable part in the economy and roleplay. They get paid, interact with teachers and students, to give them tips or roleplay with them. They are vital for the community and SchoolRP.

Do you acknowledge that if you are inactive, you may face demotion or removal from the faction?
Yes, of course I understand this.
Do you understand if your application is accepted, you may have to undergo professor training?:
I would love to go to professor training. I do not know too much about it as of now and heard from a friend that it’s way more complicated than it sounds so yes, I understand.

In-Character Information

What's your character's full name?

Walked into the room of the interview, bowing down slightly showing the interviewer respect. Dominik would think for a second after hearing the question. Thinking for a quick second, being careful and not wanting to say anything stupid. After a second, his voice would be heard, rather neutral and engaged. The interviewee would start to introduce himself. His breath smelled of fresh mint, with his body posture straightish, but you could see that he was a little nervous. It was an interview, so there was no reason not to be. "My name is Dominik Koenic.." he would say. Stopping right after, not wanting to say too much.

Age (Minimum is 27):
Started looking around the room. It was a nice place, something he always wanted to be at. Dominik would quickly glance up as he heard the interviewer’s voice again. Responding weirdly quick. "Eh. . I am 40 years old now." He would take a second to breathe before continuing to speak. "Turning 41 in about 2 months from now" his age didn’t worry him too much, just showing the experience he had gained already.

Nationality:
"Well, I originally came from Germany and moved to Japan when I was about. ." a beat, thinking for a second. It has been a long time now since he first came here. Dominik had taken a vacation here when he was 17 years old before moving to Japan. Liking the place so much that he decided to go to university there. "18 years old for university, studying Computer Science. Luckily I can speak Japanese fine by now."

Preferred Subject:
Spoke again, his tone very enthusiastic. "Well, I have a bachelor’s degree in computer science and would love to teach Computer Science as a subject." Waiting for a second, he had so much to talk about this subject. Dominik started to speak again "I started teaching Computer Science in 2016 and have a lot of experience in it." His body posture was upright now, always doing that when he talked about a theme he enjoyed. "I love to talk about Cybersecurity or Programming, though a little Networking doesn’t hurt anyone." Stopped with this, not wanting to say too much and thinking this would already fulfill the question.

Describe the character:
How do they look and act? What makes them unique and different? What are their plans for the future? Optionally, what is their past?
Dominik Koenic would be around 6 feet tall, with neat brown hair and green eyes, wearing a casual-smart sweater, with glasses and a relaxed but still straight posture. In class, patience would be essential for him but also listening carefully and being supportive. As a professor, he loves to explain complex ideas simply and connect with quieter students, which makes him different from others. He always loves to read into themes that he didn’t learn for a while, trying not to get too rusty. Dominiks plans in the future are to write a book about networking. For multiple reasons, one being his passion for the theme. He also wanted to work and refine his own teaching style, making it perfect so everybody understood what he taught, even if they had never been in his class before. He grew up in a rural area of Germany, a small town. His family was rather poor, and they couldn’t always eat food in the evening. Dominiks father was a hardworking man, always looking up to him. In school he was rather quiet and focused on studying to help his family get more money in the future, this always being his biggest dream. Dominik grew up fast, having passed all his tests every year. The dedication he had wasn’t ending anytime soon, he worked hard and managed to get a scholarship. Looking around for universities that suited his liking. Traveling around the world, finally finding one in Japan. Studying hard, with his major being Computer Science. He got his bachelor's degree there and started a small firm, making networking infrastructure for small businesses. As time went on the company got bigger, wanting to share his experience with other people who might also be less fortunate. So, he decided to try and become a professor. Dominik would try his best and teach students how they could also become successful, loving his new job. Deciding to try and help university students next he decided to try and apply for Karakura as a profe
ssor.
What is their outlook on students and their co-workers?
His outlook on students was different than the others. Dominik saw them rather as partners in learning. Encouraging and looking out for them. Making sure they felt safe and their questions were always answered. Dominik would also enjoy talking to co-workers, learning stuff about the school and just making small talk with them or with students. He is a very social person, loving to speak about anything related to computers or to computer science. He would try and befriend co-workers.

What is their motivation for becoming a professor?:
In his childhood, he always looked up to his father, because teachers rarely helped students and rather just talked because it was their job. So, he wanted to become one, a better one than his teachers were. Learning hard and having people he would look up to, like Albert Einstein. Dreaming of making other students successful and being able to congratulate them when they graduated. He loves to boost talent and make an impact on people trying to learn anything, but especially Computer Science.

Roleplay Scenarios

A jock is ignoring your lesson and throwing paper balls at another student, what would your character do?

Was engaged in trying to teach his class more about Cybersecurity, talking about various attacks and how they happen. As he looked around the class, he would suddenly notice a jock throwing paper balls at students. His calm demeanor didn’t change at all really, but he decided to confront him anyway, picking up the paper balls from the ground saying, "Excuse me.. You know throwing paper balls around isn’t the best way to vent your anger and frustration? Please stop doing that. I won’t warn you again. If you don’t want to take part in my lecture, then you shouldn’t have joined in the first place." Through all the paper balls away, he hated littering, also he wanted his classroom to be clean. Now one of two options could happen, either the jock continued, or he learned. I’ll just start off with the scenario if he continues. Dominik would go back to his blackboard, breathing in and breathing out, not angry but he wanted every student to have the same opportunity to learn. As he looked around again, explaining something to his class, he would see a paper ball being thrown again by the same person. "Again . ? I said I wouldn’t want you a second time you know? But I want you to learn the stuff I am teaching, so I’ll give you an ultimatum. Either you leave my class, or I’ll give you one last chance and if you throw another one I will be kicking you out." His threat was clear, not violent but he was done with this and wanted to go back to teaching. Talking more about Cybersecurity, one of his favorite subjects. And if the jock didn’t continue throwing paper balls, he would just go back to teaching, being happy that the jock decided to listen.

A student doesn’t seem to understand the material, yet hasn’t requested help, what would your character do?
Would explain some networking to his class, how cables and components worked and how computers could connect with other computers through them. He asked a question around the room about it, many hands were raised, only one person didn’t raise their hand. The person had a confused look on his face, listening, but not understanding what he was being told. Would look at the student asking, "Do you have any questions about it?" He would nod his head right and left, indicating a no, but the student clearly didn’t know what he was talking about. Dominik would go over to him, whispering "It really looks like you don’t know what we are talking about, if you are nervous to ask a question, or want me to explain it again, tell me now." The student would look around nervously, quickly nodding his head. He would go back to the blackboard, starting to explain everything again, in more detail and way more understandable for newer people. The student that didn’t know what was happening before would now start to understand, looking happy and excited. To make sure they really understood it, he would make a quick little Kahoot to test all of them, the person with the highest score receiving a sticker. If they didn’t know anything or wanted to know something Dominik would answer and explain.

When in the faculty lounge, how does your character act?
The doors to the faculty launch would be opened. Walking inside the new professor Dominik. He would notice the quick stares from some teachers and professors around, but greeting them anyway, trying to make a good first impression. He would ask how everyone was doing, getting a few boring responses, but Dominik just said he was doing good too, moving on. The new professor was happy he had made it this far and got accepted into this school. Dominik decided he wanted coffee. Asking the others if anybody else wanted one. "Sure, I’ll love to have one!" a voice would be heard in the back. As a professor, he would of course make two coffees, one for himself and one for the other person. Dominik would bring them their coffee, drinking his as he sat down on a bench next to the other professors. He would act positive, loving to talk with people and just get to know how their classes went and what they were up to.

Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas and one field trip idea related to your subject

First class idea: HTML programming

An interactive class that Dominik wanted to host would be showing them how to make a HTML website and maybe a little CSS to make a little website. For this class they would have to move to a special class that has computers. Dominik would start off by telling them what HTML was in the first place and how companies use it to make websites. Since nothing had been preinstalled on the computers, they would use notepad to program HTML. He would start by making a little program with them and then he would explain some commands and how to style the website. In the end of class Dominik would ask them to make a little website on their own and send the code to him as their homework.

Second class idea: Networking
Another idea he had in mind was Networking. For this class they would have to go into a special classroom with computers again. But he would now bring networking cables and switches to his class. At first Dominik would explain how infrastructures are built, how large industries use the to automate things and how they are used in schools and other buildings, like a hospital. He would then explain how to connect to the switches and how to configure them. Students would get into groups of two, using two computers and one switch to follow in his steps. Dominik would set up a user for the switch and they would follow, after being done with the configuration, the class would have to figure out how to ping each other over the console through the switch. For this he would start to explain how IP Addresses worked in the first place though and how they could connect. At the end of his lecture, he would show them how to connect switches so a larger network could be created. Explaining that it is essential and useful for a variety of reasons.Third class idea: Cybersecurity

Third class idea:
The last idea of an interactive class he had in mind right now, was different ways to encrypt stuff. He will first talk about the Cybersecurity situations now. People want to use the internet, but it is safer. The solution to it is encryption. Dominik would start off by showing the class how Caesar used to encrypt his texts, so his enemies didn’t know what he told his army. Later, people created more complex algorithms to make their message securer, so only they and the person they sent the message to know what it said. Vigenère Chiffre was a great encryption method and of those he explained to his class. He would show them the different types to encrypt a message. Either moving the letters around or using the alphabet, or a key to change the letters around. ROT-7 was the first one he gave as an example, Security would turn into Zljbypaf by moving the letters, by 7 in the alphabet. The class would now have to try and change their own word around. In the end Dominik would give them an encrypted puzzle that they had to solve with everything they had learned in class this day. The first one to finish this puzzle would receive a sticker.

First Field trip idea: Hospitals Infrastructure
For a field trip he wanted to look at the infrastructure in the hospital with his class. Hospitals had one of the best network infrastructures and were important. For this he would first need to talk to EMS staff and make sure they were alright with Dominik, getting to know part of their infrastructure but also taking his class around and showing them what a hospital used nowadays. They had a neat network infrastructure, making sure every computer had access to certain stuff and that machines worked where they were supposed to. The field trip would start in his class and then they would walk over to the hospital. There they would be greeted by an EMS worker, who hopefully knew some things about their network. They would tour us around, showing us how they handled different emergencies over a hotline and how technology helped process things faster. While on the field trip they would have to answer a questionnaire about the things Dominik explains and what they were getting shown. In the hospital it is important that calls go through quickly and that they have high response times. Another thing they would look at is how sensors worked, what a body area network was and how it could connect to a display, for displaying a pulse and other values. Goals of this field trip would be to give students an insight into how technology has changed the world and medicine. At the end of the field trip, he would explain to them how different machines like an x-ray worked. Dominik thinks it would be a great idea to host a field trip like this, because it makes students think about the variety of stuff that electronics can do and how to use them. But also, that we evolved and that computers and the science about them are very important.
