Backstory:
When Ella was very young, her family moved from Germany to Japan, specifically to the birthplace of her father. Ella's father met her mother when she was on a business trip to Japan. Ella has grown up in this city since age 4, and remembers only a few little things about Germany. Her mother has kept the country alive for her, though, and has made her keep up with German all her life.
Ella has always been known for her empathetic nature and colorful, bright personality. However, due to being so emotional, she has sad and angry outbursts sometimes. She always regrets them later. She also has occasional brief manic episodes. Her aunt has had similar problems, but no one in the family has been diagnosed with anything. When friends ask Ella how she's doing (relating to her mania), she generally says, "I'm managing". She hopes to someday find a way to truly manage and control these bothersome episodes.
Upon reaching high school, Ella immediately joined the volleyball team. Now, she is highly involved in an array of activities, ranging from sports to arts, and even hopes to join the student council.
She has always dreamed of climbing to the top of the mountain at the edge of the city. Her father was very close to doing so with her aunt when they were in high school, and since hearing about this, Ella has sought a friend willing to reach this goal with her. Unfortunately, due to her asthma, it is difficult for her to climb (with the high elevation and such).
Her father grew up Shinto, and raised Ella to believe as well. Ella's mother is Agnostic, and is accepting of all religions and practices, so she supports her daughter and husband. Religion has played a major role in Ella's life. She constantly prays to be rid of her mental illness.
