BACKSTORY
Childhood
On January 15th,Cornelius Yokuna was welcomed into the world by Denji and Ayoki Yokuna. Ayoki was a Filipino woman, whilst Denji was Japanese. Cornelius was loved and spoiled by his parents for the first few years of his life. Ayoki had started to call him 'Kai' at the age of 2, feeling that his birth name wasn't fitting enough for him. Seeming to be the happiest child, Ayoki decided she wanted to have more children to let Kai have a close friend. On December 5th, Kinoko and Miko were born, identical twins. The youngest of the two, Kinoko, born 3 hours later, was underweight, being sent to NICU. After they were born, Denji became stricter with Kai, and Denji, being a traditional man, started to tell him things like, "You'll be the man of the house one day" and "You need to protect your sisters". This brought him up to be tougher than most boys his age.
A few months into the summer after Kai's 6th birthday, he walked down to the basement to discover his father over a warm body covered in red. Since that day, his view of his father changed; his view of everything changed. For a few days, his father avoided him before he cornered Kai in his room, beginning to explain that it was normal to act out on anger in such a manner. However, Kai refused that truth, and it led to Denji 'punishing' him for disobeying.
Until Kai became 11 years old, the torture from his father continued. His youngest sister was 8 when she found out about her father's abuse towards him. She had walked into Kai's room one night after having a bad dream, where she was welcomed by a beaten young boy cowering in a corner. For the next months of fall, she started to sleep outside of his bedroom door after Kai was punished, humming him songs to try to comfort him as he was locked on the other side of the door. Their mother would beg for their father to stop; her own fear of the man, however, forced her to back down. At one point, Denji snapped and sent Kai away for five weeks; his location was never discovered, and Kai barely remembers the weeks he spent away. Just that it was hot, painful, and dark. Only returning once Denji felt he was 'taught his lesson'.
It was on the twins' 9th birthday: a beautiful celebration to the public and other members of Yokuna; A perfect family. Kai's bruises were covered by a Christmas turtleneck that was bought during the family's recent trip to the States. To all the guests, everything was normal, and the twins were happy. After the long day, Kinoko and Miko were going to bed when Kinoko lit a candle in their room, something clicking in her head, a voice saying the words 'Kill. Kill. Kill.' She could still hear his cries from across the hall; She wanted to kill her father. Within a moment, the candle was on the floor, and a flame started to spread throughout the room. Doors opened; their mother screamed for the children as the house started to turn to ash.
News spread overnight with the Yokuna heir and his sisters being the only survivors of a mysterious house fire. Ayoki Yokuna's body was found charred in her bed. Meanwhile, Denji Yokuna's body was never found. They were both pronounced dead on December 6th, with the Police's conclusion that this was an 'accident'. That day, Kai and Miko were sent to a nearby orphanage. With the remaining money from their parents' will, Kinoko was sent to a boarding school to receive the close attention she needed. Later, she'd be diagnosed with schizophrenia.

From that point on, Denji would begin to punish Kai over anything small, using waterboarding and beatings as a form of punishment. This led Kai to struggle with basic emotions, as Denji would tell him that he’d need to put on a smile after every beating.

His Children
When Kai was 14, he ran away from the orphanage and started to travel freely by sneaking aboard ships. For a while, he ended up in China and on the streets, meeting a lovely girl, Li, who was just a year older and telling her that he went to the all-boys private school nearby. Their time together was short, and the girl fell in love. However, his care for her was nonexistent. He felt nothing for her or those around him, almost empty. He decided to leave once she mentioned she was with child. Kai left without saying a word and went back to the States, hiding out with a friend of his mother's they met when he was a child.
He lived there until the age of 16, when he decided to take a trip to Iceland to branch out a business he was trying to start up with private funding and money schemes. During his time there, he met another young woman, Hannabelle, and she begged for his help to have her parents convinced she had a proper boyfriend to hide her true sexuality. However, they still decided to test that theory, and he left after the dinner with her parents. They dramatically broke up to complete the scene. Hannabelle found out months later that she was pregnant. Deciding to hide that from Kai for the rest of her life.

Karakura
Kai continued to travel a lot until the age of 18, when he decided to move back to Japan to a town called 'Karakura' to hopefully restart his life and maybe discover any sort of feeling. Anything. "Just let me feel something." Once he had arrived in Karakura, he quickly bumped into a ginger-haired boy who, upon eye contact, instantly made his heart begin to beat. The boy went by Zach T. His last name was never truly known to Kai. The boy was outgoing and sweet; he never seemed to let anything put him down. After a month, Kai gifted him a hand-stitched stitch onesie that he made while he travelled.
One day a girl came up to Kai and invited him to a game of truth or dare; there he met his new family. The Lycans, created by an angel sent from above, were Lyn and her twin, Alex. He started to feel safe and happy around them, and Lyn adopted him into their family. Calling him brother, a word he hadn't heard in years. He took the Lycan name and decided to forget his old life and sisters. Months later, Alex disappeared, and Lyn was murdered. His spirit started to crumble, but he took over the family. He made it grow in strength and numbers, with Zach by his side. Slowly, the boy became the only reason Kai decided to live on. Zach T joined another family, a gang known as the Hunters, and took on their last name. Kai felt like his life was finally starting to look up until Artic Hunter told him Zach had been murdered.
Without thinking, he left. He never saw the body or claimed his items. Kai returned to the States as he slowly began to skyrocket into a rageful depression. Before leaving, though, he sent a letter to Kinoko and told her to take over the family he formed. Saying he didn't wish for Lyn's death to be for nothing. During that time, everything was blank. His mind was shut off, and he turned violent, spiteful, and disinterested in others. He only returned to Karakura when Kiinoko called for him, saying her boyfriend, Zach Nevio, was murdered and she needed him to watch over the family she'd taken good care of. Kai did as she asked, watching the family from afar and slipping away into the sewers of Karakura. Carving out several tunnels for him to sleep in, undetected by the new gangs. He also learned that the Nevio name wasn't just a family but a cover for a gang that started with a man named Mosu, whom his other sister, Miko, had gotten arrested with for possession of illegal weaponry. It was only a few weeks that Kinoko was away before she took over the family once more and fell for the new Nevio lead. Another ginger-haired man named Karito. Kai saw him during one of his escapades to the surface, almost mistaking him for his former lover until he saw his eyes. Deep brown eyes, differing from Zach's teal oceanic eyes. Perfect eyes. Perfection. Over time, he noticed the children of Lycan were fearful of the man and that his sister was oblivious. On occasion, he'd step in and attack the man while unmasked in front of the children. Not caring about his identity by to defend Lyn's legacy. It wasn't until Kinoko became pregnant that he stopped attacking Karito regularly and allowed her to see his true violent colors.
The pregnancy was harsh; Kinoko's episodes were more frequent, and her hormones were out of control. She had locked herself in her room for 3 months before deciding to step out and was quickly attacked by one of her children and his friends. Kinoko thought she lost the baby, and Kai stayed by her side to console her. Though, he didn't care much about the loss. He just wanted her to stop crying so loudly.
Over the next few weeks, her episodes remained frequent, and she wasn't aware of reality anymore. He decided to take this opportunity to attack Karito once more, hoping to finish him off before he was handed an old stitch onesie. The familiar fabric felt like clouds in his hands as he stared down in horror, hearing Karito speak, "Zach is alive." Before Kai could react, Karito dragged him down to the sewers with a well-trained dog to follow the scent of the onesie. They followed behind the dog until they entered a labyrinth. It took hours of searching and hitting dead ends before they found a small room; inside was a sweet ginger-haired boy with teal oceanic eyes.
