Moriel Maeng almost died in 2020. A ghost event in what was Itsbyoshi Forest, featured in the abandoned forest which was a "Red Zone" (AKA entering these areas gave OOC permission for your character to die.)

As Moriel explored with his sister Malori, he froze deep within the forest as a sudden possession took over his body. The secondary occupant of his body spoke with his voice, repeating brief phrases along the lines of "It hurts." As he scaled to the top of a house against his will, Moriel and the ghost paused at the edge of the roof. He stood there for only a moment, his sister watching as Moriel stepped forward and plummeted toward the ground. He goes unconscious.
Miraculously, staff gave me the choice of choosing whether Moriel lived or survived the fall. I chose to keep him alive, with a scar on his leg as a reminder of the tragedy. If I had never been given that choice, Moriel would not be an existing character today.
This becomes an important plot point for Moriel. During the tragic fall that he was convinced would take his life, all he could worry about was his sister making it out alive and evading the same fate.
Beneath the eccentric chaos that he surrounds himself in for familiarity's sake, Moriel becomes quickly susceptible to feeling concerned when the safety of his family is questioned as a result of the event. And of course, memories of unintentionally leaving his sister alone in a dangerous place fuels his deep-rooted insecurities that question his abilities as a caretaker.
