What's your Minecraft Username?: Oliverium
What's the title of your suggestion?: Functional Lights
What's your suggestion?:
When it comes to properties, you typically walk in with lights on and the only way to make it dark is going into edit mode and breaking light sources. Why not make some functional lights blocks, such as lamps, or light switches? That way, when you walk by houses, or even enter them, you'll know who is awake and active. It adds a touch of realism, and there's plenty of ways to expand this.
1. Furniture: Add a functional furniture type item that is purchasable in player shops or furniture store. It can be toggled with a right click. (I've seen mods like this, so I wonder if it's possible for a plug in or something)
2. Buildmode option: Redstone lamps can get edited into a lamp you can toggle with a right click, similarly to how they work now. Not sure if you only toggle them with buildmode enabled but if it could be changed to not buildmode that would be cool.
3. Some totally different thing: Staff know how things work better than I do, but maybe there's a way you can light up the house/rooms with a lightswitch, which just spawns those invisible light blocks around and allows you to dim them?
I'm sure something can work, this is only a suggestion after all.
How will this benefit the server and community?:
1. Realism: Properties, businesses, hospital, and even school can benefit with a touch of realism. Turning lights on and off can communicate sleeping, inoccupation, and even help those with sensitive eyes (+ concussions)
2. Classroom management: Ever been in a classroom that would NOT stop talking, and the lights suddenly go out? Flick, flick, flick, now the teacher has your attention! Would be cool to have that ICly for teachers to grab the attention of a rowdy classroom.
3. Events: Power outages, thunderstorms, etc., the possibilities are endless. Instead of giving blindness, just turn off the lights!
4. Who is home?: Basically that- you can tell who is active in their homes in order to meet neighbors, say hi, or come over to hangout.
