Functional Skateboards

What's the title of your suggestion?: Functional Skateboards

What's your suggestion?:
My friend would like to use skateboards in a way that is similar to how we can use bicycles, since her character is into skating. She's new to the server and I'd like to help with such as a concept of not only movement but also character expression as they move from place to place within Karakura. This can add a level of immersion in the story, and add a more dynamic form of transportation that we wouldn't have otherwise.

- Players would not be able to upgrade the skateboard, similar to the bike. It will be noticeably slower than the bike, but also easily faster than default running speed.
- They would also be able to utilise a modified version of the Vanilla Minecraft horse jump system for the ability to use tricks, which makes it unique to all the vehicles in the game. Making its overall price on Blockbay more reasonable for above the price of a bike.

How will this benefit the server and community?:
1.) This allows for a sense of immersion within the skatepark, and allows for extra content usable within Karakura.
2.) This gives the character a new way to express themself within the community as a delinquent-type or someone who likes skateboarding.
3.) If implemented correctly, will now earn a place within the community as a new movement mechanic.

I believe this was already suggested at some point in the past

It's a bit complicated to explain, but to put it simply, minecraft players can't just float around while seamlessly following a moving skateboard model without also making the player's avatar an "artificial model" as well. Gestures already use a similar logic, so it's technically possible, though I imagine it'd be quite tricky to code

Alternatively, they could just make it so the player sits down while "driving" it, similar to bicycles, though that'd look kind of weird

Though, this has been suggested multiple times before, and they haven't started it yet, so i assume it's too complex.

I think it could be possible as I searched a bit online and found out that there is a mod that allows you to ride a skateboard and do tricks. But then again its a mod and I am not sure if SRP uses mods. Now I don't know much about coding but couldn't they at first code it so the player is laying on the skateboard and then tilt the player so their standing up. Correct me if I am wrong because as I said I don't know much about coding.

Good point! ^^

There are mods out there that implement this. However, as you said, mods and plugins work differently. While mods allow developers to change the way Minecraft's internal gears work, plugins are limited by Minecraft's API, functions, events and other tools. To put it simply (since I don't know that much about technical stuff), mods allow you to change Minecraft itself with little to no boundaries, whereas plugins use tools made available by Minecraft which allow them to change and combine how the game behaves.

Now, to achieve something like this, a mod would be way more convenient, as Minecraft Java Edition doesn't quite have the tools to modify the player's animation loops (at least not without resorting to a logic similar to gestures).

As for your proposal, I'm not quite sure if it is feasible (correct me if I'm wrong), since I believe it's not possible to tilt the player's avatar, or any entities (except for display entities, but those aren't really suited for player avatars as far as I know) 90º degrees as you said. Sadly Java Edition isn't as flexible as Bedrock, so developers would have to figure out a workaround for this. Whatever the case, I wish them good luck :]

Never really knew the difference between plugins and mods so thank you. Perhaps they can make it that when the player clicks the skateboard it attaches it to the player (basically like how cosmetics, acccesories and such already do) and then the player would be essentialy running like normal just slightly faster. Now this might look weird as the legs will be moving but perhaps there is a way to stop it like basicallly stopping the running animation. Like the player would be running in theory but there just would be no animation for it.

I do want it, but let's be real. HOW are they gonna do this? This has been suggested multiple times already. There is a reason why it has taken time.

Honestly being able to ride the skateboard could be pretty fun and has potential for other types of RP or immersing into one's character. However I do worry that this would increase the likelihood of people clipping through doors or riding the skateboard in school ground (assuming the way you can ride the skateboard is no different to a bike). But other then that I think this could open up many possibilities for different types of RP.
