What is your motivation for applying?

Well, I've always been fascinated by the human mind and how it works. Becoming a hospital psychiatrist just feels like the perfect way to put that fascination to good use. I want to be there for people who are going through tough times mentally, to listen to them, understand their struggles, and help them find a way forward. Life can be really challenging, and I think having someone to talk to and get professional guidance from can make a huge difference. So, I guess my motivation boils down to wanting to be that person who makes a positive impact and helps others feel better.

Which role are you applying for?
(Doctor or Psychiatrist):
Psychiatrist

What knowledge do you have of Hospital Work?

I’d say I know the basics of Hospital Work, but I’m really not sure what the basics actually covers… But! I did do some research into the different roles, and I do have a little tiny bit of prior knowledge of injury symptoms due to my hobby of creative writing (though that isn’t particularly relevant to the role of a Psych…)! Regardless of my lack of knowledge compared to other applicants, I’m fully prepared to dedicate myself to training, and to learning more about hospital work. It sounds like a really rewarding experience.

DOCTOR
A doctor’s job is a very important one within a hospital environment. They specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of illnesses. Furthermore, they also have a highly important job of treating injuries of patients (including, but not limited to: broken bones, concussions, and dismemberment) and providing comfortable and safe recovery. Recently, within SRP, doctors are also expected to carry out the responsibilities of surgeons, which are to perform surgeries. Doctors are also able to prescribe medication and offer advice to patients about how to keep their health the best it can be.

PSYCHIATRIST
A psychiatrist’s job is also a very important one within a hospital environment. These people specialise in mental health to assess and diagnose mental illness. They look over both the mental and physical parts of these issues while also focusing on the prevention of these mental health conditions. Furthermore, they’re qualified to help with various other things, such as treating conditions and helping with certain behaviours (specifically addictive, violent, sleeping & obsessive). There is a difference between a psychiatrist and a psychologist too: psychiatrists are medical doctors who prescribe medicine, diagnose mental illnesses and manage treatment. They can also provide a range of therapy for said diagnosed illnesses, no matter how complex and serious. Psychologists specialise in talk therapy (psychotherapy) to help patients.

PARAMEDIC
Paramedics are new to the hospital faction, but that does not mean that their job is not important. They take on the work and responsibilities of both doctors and psychiatrists in a medical emergency situation. They’re usually deployed out of the hospital in light of an emergency called in from the emergency number in an ambulance. One important skill of a paramedic is the ability to have quick judgement and skills to figure out the severity of a patient’s condition and to make decisions that could save their life. A few key skills of theirs include resuscitation and field treatment.

Do you acknowledge that you’re subject to being demoted at any given time if accepted?

Yes i understand and it motivates me to be even more active. I would love to keep the position as a psychiatrist as it can be beneficial to people outside of RP. I can always help a person out even when it's needed outside of RP.

Do you acknowledge that by applying for this role, you agree to be 100% dedicated to the Hospital Staff role?

Yes i acknowledge this. It's the whole reason i'm applying in the first place

Do you acknowledge that if training is held whilst you are online, you are expected to attend or you will be punished?
Yes I understand, and if I'm offline I'll try my best to hop on for training

Do you acknowledge that you are NOT to take things OOCly when dealing with training & situations?
Yes i acknowledge this. If possible then i'd like to have my dms open for people to consult to me OOCly with their personal lives if wanted.

Taro Yakazuki, a 37-year-old male, is a skilled psychiatrist residing in Japan. Born to American parents who moved to Japan for work, Taro grew up in a multicultural household that exposed him to both Western and Japanese traditions. Despite his upbringing, Taro developed a keen interest in exploring various belief systems and eventually embraced atheism as his perspective on life. His journey into psychiatry was catalyzed by an early fascination with the complexity of the human mind. Taro's experiences growing up in a foreign country and grappling with his own sense of cultural identity fostered a deep empathy for the challenges individuals face in navigating cultural and personal differences. As he witnessed the impact of these challenges on mental health, Taro felt compelled to make a difference. After completing his undergraduate studies in psychology, Taro pursued a PhD in Psychiatry, specializing in cross-cultural mental health. His research focused on the effects of cultural adaptation on mental well-being, especially among expatriates living in Japan. His unique perspective, growing up with a blend of cultural influences, allowed him to approach his research with sensitivity and insight. Taro's career took off as he began working at a prominent psychiatric hospital in Tokyo. His ability to bridge the gap between Western psychological theories and Japanese cultural nuances set him apart. Taro's approach to therapy and medication management was grounded in evidence-based practices, but he also prioritized tailoring his treatments to respect each patient's cultural background and personal beliefs. In his personal life, Taro continues to be fascinated by Japan's rich history and traditions. He has embraced the language and culture, finding solace in the serene beauty of Japanese gardens and the philosophy of mindfulness. Taro's atheism, while less common in Japan, has never been a barrier to his deep appreciation for the diverse perspectives that enrich his life and the lives of those around him. SECTION 2: MEDICAL HISTORY
What is your character’s medical speciality? Why did they choose this focus?

Specialty: Forensic Psychiatry
Taro chose this focus primarily because of his strong interest in the minds of criminals. This interest was amplified after taking an impromptu Criminology course in university, and led onto him finding the forensic psychiatry branch. Luckily, it was just as exciting as he thought it would be and enjoyed learning about it thoroughly. Taking the course was a rather impulsive decision, but it was definitely driven by his at-the-time fixation on true crime documentaries. Something about figuring out how the minds of those criminals worked really struck a cord in him and, well, he wanted to learn more! And so, he did.

What medical residencies did your character take after medical school?

Naomi took a medical residency at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, England, for four years before moving back to Japan in search of a job in his home country. It was during the final four years of gaining his PhD degree at Cambridge Medical School, as he was still qualified during this time. He also took a two-year medical residency in JR Tokyo General Hospital before moving to Karakura.

Does your character have any work experience in medical positions?
His residency at Addenbrooke’s Hospital during the last year of his Masters and entire three years of his PhD gave him four years of experience in a professional setting, but he also volunteered as a school counsellor assistant during university, between his classes and part-time job while getting his Bachelors. Further, although not work experience, he often was chosen to be the team medical person in Scouts when he was younger, and got to watch the rangers fix up his peers’ injuries. He was also the person his peers went to for support with their issues, with him being so friendly and approachable.

Has your character completed any additional schooling?
During medical school, Naomi made the impulsive decision to sign up for an online university course in Criminology. He completed it alongside his medical work, and it influenced him heavily to pursue a career path more geared towards helping and/or understanding criminals. He also took a foreign language class: Korean, as one of his closest friends from school spoke the language fluently.
