I feel like I've been posting here frequently, which is odd sense I haven't been on the server at all for months!!
But i'm curious...

How do you do detailRP?
What is considered detailRP to you?
How do you do detailrp quickly to keep up with roleplay?

Keep in mind, I have my own personal preferences and opinions, just because we don't agree doesn't mean I am out to set down an argument and cause issues, especially here on the forums. I am simply coming around to ask the community a question everyone can pitch in with their own thoughts and advice!
I post this with no ill-will! (˵◝⩊ ◜˵マ

Personally, I'm a very slow typer/writer, when i was quite active over a year ago, the only time I could properly detailRP was whenever I was on my own, or with friends or company who understood/could wait for me to type.
SRP, from my perspective, is quite fast paced! There were times where someone I was interacting with icly, would type oocly to hurry up, or simply decided to end the interaction altogether to move on.
Which was a big deterrent for me as a roleplayer.
Of course, that was not the case every single time, I had found people who were fine with waiting a moment for me to actively type if i did wish to detailRP in anyway.

I must say though, the worst of it had to be when I was a school nurse for alittle while, first time being accepted into some type of faction too, and I had to detailRP actions for everyone that needed my attention, not to mention the need to keep up with logging students that I treated, and reacting instantly to situations!

I'll be honest, in my experience, it was stressful to keep up with, especially when detailRP was directly needed to make roleplay immersive for players, and live up to the application I put in.

tangent aside, apologies!
DetailRP seems to be rather important in the grand scheme of School RolePlay as a whole, especially for factions that need the detailed actions that are required of them.
Now tell me, do you enjoy detailRP?
Where do you think it or isn't appropriate to use, and how do you think new players could benefit on learning detailRP?

In my personal preference, and you aren't required to agree, I feel like DetailRP should be alittle more friendly to roleplayers!! Not everyone is accustomed to writing multiple sentences of detailed actions, and not everyone is willing to wait to see it, from my perspective.
DetailRP is a big requirement for factions especially, if I had to give some sort of advice for a later change, I'd recommend making it so specific factions are less DetailRP reliant, while the use of longer actions are nice, it'd help get through fast paced roleplay sessions without large amounts of downtime waiting for those multi-sentenced actions.
With that being said, no, I do not have any malice towards those who detailRP, write long actions, interactions, and are fast typers. I come to this topic from a perspective of someone who cannot find themselves to detailRP as often as they like, as well as someone who is aware of newer players, and those still figuring it out themselves ฅ^˵>⩊<˵^ฅ
FYI, I'd love to hear what you think on the topic of DetailRP!!
Of course, long as you're respectful with your response!
I gave quite the handful of questions to answer and discuss, and again, I apologize if anything I had said was not irrelevant to the post in anyway! I'm trying to reach out more and share my experiences as I slowly come back around <3

Literally holy yap session, sorry guys!!(´∇`'')

I personally think detail RP is p overrated it might be because english is my second langauge but unless the roleplay is heavy or very lore based like for your character i think thats when Detail RP shines the most also for me when i did detail RP my best advice is think as youre typing thats the best way to actually Characterize your character doing what you think in the moment is what they would do in the moment dont plan out interactions and dont think to much do what you wanna do thats the point of SRP doing what you wanna do making your characters do what you would do in situations like this hopefully you understand my point

I can definitely understand your frustrations in feeling like you have to meet some sort of expectation, though I think that encouraging detail RP is healthy for the server as a whole. Why? Simple, really.

In order to actually improve your writing, you need to try in the first place.

This isn't to say that you need to write gigantic posts in order to be a better writer, sometimes less is absolutely more! But taking the time to actually read and write posts that are more detailed leads to thinking about details and ideas that you might not otherwise if you were just doing one line responses or extremely short actions. Exposure to it makes you grow confidence. If you type a lot of detailed actions, you will naturally get more comfortable with the keyboard and its layout, as well as what words to use, how to structure your posts, leading to faster average response times.

Of course, I do think that when people type especially slow it gets very stale having to wait for them to type, especially since there's no chat indicator to tell you they're actually typing or if they just briefly went AFK during a scene, so I think finding a balance is quite important.

From my personal view, SRP is very weak in terms of RP 'standards' on average, but that's okay and to be expected because of the demographic and intentions of the server to begin with. Everyone learns at their own pace, but I'm always very glad to see people give typing with more detail a try, to embody their characters and emotions all the better. It really adds to the experience, trust me.

My intentions here are not to act elitist at all, mind! As I've said, I absolutely get why people dislike detail RP. I just genuinely believe it helps you grow. Instead of being scared of trying in situations that you feel it may not work in, push yourself to try anyway to add just a little more detail than you might have otherwise, just to get more confident with it. If everyone who felt discouraged because of feeling like you had to be fast did that, the bar would raise across the board, easily.

I do have to comment on this especially, though. I've had this exact same thing happen to me many times. Don't be put down and think you have to adjust to them. Despite what you might possibly think, this goes both ways. They aren't accommodating for you, so why should you accommodate for them? As you've said, there are people who will be patient and wait. It's about finding the right people who enjoy it, most of all, before anything else that I've said.

Genuinely. If it wasn't for the detail RPers on the server that I had ran into, I probably wouldn't even be here right now. And that's not me saying "wowow 3 appends or bust", no, I just mean people typing /me or /it actions that go into a little bit extra detail, describe things, without 'needing' to. Those people remind me that it's an RP server best, because when people write as little as possible and rely on the game itself to do the work for them, it feels more like a gamemode than RP. At least, to me.

Here's the misconception of DetailRP - it is one of many beliefs that ruin the experience for others and turns people away from the idea of DetailRP.

Quantity does not equal quality.

By this, I mean that you do not have to write large amounts for it to be considered DetailRP. You could simply write two to three well written sentences to create a good piece of writing. However. I would advocate that there should be a unspoken rule of effort, but that doesn't mean put layers of effort into something for the sake of it, because that becomes moreso of a chore, than a fun outlet for writing.

My advice: have fun. If your actively partaking in something that you enjoy, you will naturally put in more effort, and instinctively DetailRP will just come to you.

I remember a few years ago when I was in the lore team I tried to be nice and p2l with a gang member and because my responses weren't overly long paragraphs he complained to me for not writing enough? Meanwhile his actions were gibberish, run-on sentences of incomprehensible nonsense. Funny how that works out.

I do like detailrp but people confuse quantity with quality. No, I don't want to read your wall of pointless writing. Writing words just for the sake of it. I've also seen people whose writing is borderline AI-like where every other word or phrase is something no one in real life would ever use.

DetailRP doesn't (and imo shouldn't) have to be a wall of text with obscure adjectives thrown in just to pad things out. At times I've read genuine 500 word paragraphs where the only thing that actually happens is a character nodding in agreement. I think it's important to know when to go for long, descriptive actions and when to just stick to single sentences.

What is considered detailRP to you?
If it has detail in it, it's detailRP, regardless of the length of the action. maybe that doesn't explain it very well

Like consider these actions:
/me nods slowly vs. /me narrows his eyes, a hand lifting to his chin in thought. A beat of silence. He slowly lowers his head, then lifts it back up in a deliberate nod.

idk if most people would consider the second one detailRP per se, but I would. I don't think there's anything wrong with doing the first one either, though. Just go with the vibes bro... <3

How do you do detailrp quickly to keep up with roleplay?
I don't lol

Back when I used to pretty much do detailRP like 8 hours a day (full-time job ahh) we would genuinely take like 10-15 minutes per action. This was obviously with someone I knew would be okay with taking this long with actions, so there was no need to rush. If I was in RP with someone I didn't know all that well I would stick to writing shorter (but still detailed (see the example above)) actions to keep the flow of conversation reasonable.

I must say though, the worst of it had to be when I was a school nurse for alittle while, first time being accepted into some type of faction too, and I had to detailRP actions for everyone that needed my attention, not to mention the need to keep up with logging students that I treated, and reacting instantly to situations!
I haven't been in any factions in a good while so I'm not sure if there's been any major changes but.

I don't think you need to constantly detailRP in any(?)* faction? If you're giving treatment as a nurse then there's of course some level of detailRP that's needed, but in my opinion it's completely valid to write really simple actions composed of shorter sentences. (Especially if you're trying to keep up - however I don't think you need a "reason" to relax with the detail every once in a while.) We're all just lil guys. It's more important to make sure you don't get overwhelmed and burnt out than to rush to keep up with a situation.
* I've never been in KPD or EMS so I can't speak on how mandatory/enforced detailRP on the job is. I would like to assume these factions don't force their employees to work like animals though D:

I'll be honest, in my experience, it was stressful to keep up with, especially when detailRP was directly needed to make roleplay immersive for players, and live up to the application I put in.
Applications include 1000% more detail(RP) than you actually need to use on the job. You can take several days on your application, so it's unreasonable to expect someone to write similar detail/length within a minute in an actual RP situation. At least that's what I think. The reason applications include so much detail is to make it easier to find players who have the skill and knowledge and dedication to RP in such a role.

how do you think new players could benefit on learning detailRP?
It would be the best to introduce someone to detailRP with just trying to increase the comprehensibility and ....detail of the action, rather than focusing on the length. I do NOT want to read any more 3-4 append actions without a SINGLE COMMA in them bro </3 Punctuation is FREE chat </3 (Though I've also read actions with like 55 commas and no periods. It is legal to end sentences, please do it. Often.)

ok long ass yap over I hope this doesn't sound super condescending or anything
I looooooooooove detailRP and I also loooooooooooove sometimes not putting in much effort into my actions I looooooooove doing actions based on how much im willing to write at any given time <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

some of the other comments had banger points too ong
