Describe your activity on the server:
I meet the activity requirements. I meet the activity requirements of this role, being online several days of the week, usually for a couple of hours spread out throughout any other given day. Activity will drop from time to time when responsibilities come up, but I imagine that is the case for everyone. At any rate, across the various factions I've been involved with (Professor/Teacher/Clubs/EMS/Government ...) I've never really had 'activity' be an issue.
When activity does become an issue, I let people know. For example, I've let Dalparpe, the owner of Pinkumo, know via Discord DMs that I would simply not be able to have one of my characters continue to be a cashier in their shop since joining the EMS faction has left me with little time to do that *as well*.
Most of my time on the server is spent either as my History Teacher, teaching classes about the server's LORE (mostly... sometimes European history). Though, my most played character is a quirked up Grade-12 student from the Nakazumi family who, should you decide to befriend, you may find like, 7 people approaching you later explaining why that's a bad idea.
I could spell out what 'days' I tend to be around (Mon-Sun) and give like... general timespans, but I'm not going to do that. I think it's just sufficient to say 'I am active' and 'I meet the activity requirements'.

[Doctor] Methawi Pratiphal A doctor hailing from Thailand who came to Karakura to support his relatives and ‘hear more’ of their research efforts. Refuses to explain what his family is researching, and apparently wants to pioneer research within Karakura’s Hospital. One gets the feeling he sees many of his patients as secondary or a complete inconvenience. Many wonder what exactly made him pursue medicine in the first place. [Grade 12] Seluvis Nakazumi A highly charismatic and controversial student attending KHS. Often accosted on the street for being a ‘cult leader’, while being approached by others for spiritual advice. This has not stopped the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery and several officials from Town Hall warning about him and the 'group' (Onesung) he is alleged to lead. Claims to be ‘turning the wheel of Dharma’ in Karakura, which, according to him, has ‘been largely forgotten until now’. Probably my most social/approachable character and the most enjoyable to play. [HD] Alois Tullybellton Head of KHS’ history department, and a former professor of law. Nowadays also serves as an auxiliary bishop to the Archdiocese of Karakura. An overall cynical and lethargic figure, who really only shows enthusiasm on occasion when it’s time to teach or celebrate Mass. Delights in teaching, as, quite frankly, it’s one of the few opportunities the isolated figure gets to talk to anyone. College - Teresa Keating A religious young woman, recently released from her vows (and… prison), with a penchant for chemistry. Notorious former leader of KHS’ Occult Club. Nowadays, a disturbed recluse, dressed in black, who seems to harbour bitter resentment for just about everything that breathes at this rate. The less said about the poor woman, the better. Just avoid eye-contact. |
Shop Information
The following available ‘slot’ noted in the Town Discord…
Soleil Kumo - Restaurant
I've consistently taken an interest in SRP’s Restaurants / Food focused businesses.
As for the location: to the extent I’d have any ‘say’ in the matter, any area where a large facade could be constructed would be ideal, with space being the most pressing concern as opposed to, say, proximity to other areas, placement in a specific district, etc.
I've often heard it said that Restaurants 'don't make as much money' as other shops do.
I do not care.
I am LOCKED IN!
Why do you want to become a Shopkeeper?:
The reason I’m so hellbent on becoming a Shopkeeper specifically of a ‘Restaurant’ is because, as opposed to other retail experiences where the opportunities for RP are often quite ‘secondary’ to simply getting in line, getting your accessory and leaving… Restaurants are different.
Unless you’re going there to stock up on food and leave, when you think of a Restaurant, most people attending are there not just to eat, but for the experience (whatever this may be). You’re not ordering pizza, yeah? You’re going to a restaurant, you’re sitting down, you’re eating with others, usually.
So, the opportunity for RP is much higher as many attendees aren’t just getting their food and leaving, they’re actually eating in the building.
I want to be the one to facilitate that in a unique way, which other Restaurants/Cafes etc. don’t do or emphasize. The ‘theme’ of the restaurant/shop I’d canvass would really emphasize conversation and dialogue. To this end, I’d like to take advantage of the various certified yappers and groups all across Karakura who would adore a space for specialized events occasionally featuring speakers or performances. Basically a modern “penny university”, but, y’know… in Japan. Unique to Karakura. Modern and such.
Local authors? Business/thought leaders? Other factions or individual members therein? All will eventually, from time to time, have messages they want to share with the community or seek to encourage dialogue on a particular matter (e.g, assaults on hospital employees). What better place to have those discussions than in the hall of a prestigious restaurant?
What do you plan to do with the shop/what makes it unique?
I'll answer this question, for the sake of my own sanity, as if the shop 'already existed'.Tenkai-tei is a high-end Thai restaurant and teahouse that endeavours to provide mostly intimate and closed dining experiences, where customers can be (should they wish) sequestered away amongst friends and strangers alike in a semi-isolated space where they can eat and chat without much disturbance.
The menu is known to feature Thai dishes heavily, but not exclusively, while also famously striving to provide the most comprehensive assortment of tea as possible.
Certain aspects of the dining experience have been altered to fit Karakuran preferences. For example, the seating arrangements are somewhat similar to what can be found at the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery and Jinsei Zen Garden.
While the nuances around how waitstaff behave may make the place feel a tad overly formal, the restaurant is, at its core, a place where discussion is key. Not all dining experiences take on the previously discussed ‘closed’ form: Tenkai-tei seeks to provide a serene environment where conversations and friendships develop.
The ‘parlour’ at the heart of the establishment is central, as there, patrons are not sequestered away, but sit in a much more open space where they are not just given a meal, but an opportunity to meet with strangers (often more than one), and, occasionally with prompting from employees prompting discussion in the parlor, giving performances, instigating trivia etc, where they may also learn, discuss various things, and exchange ideas.
I mean, this is hardly 'new', other businesses have done this before (I recall, myself, taking part in a 'trivia' with a huge cash prize or something within one restaurant), but that felt more like a special occasion. It was a 'big event'. Here, it'd be much more casual, frequent, and the topics would aim to be accessible.
The Thai architecture often results in people mistaking the space for a temple at a distance. It was designed this way as requested by certain parties within the Nakazumi family. Indeed, that family has largely financed the establishment. The restaurant features some pretty sumptuous decor, with antiques, statues, and art scattered around the premises.
Any specialized events/other activity that occurs in your shop?:
You will recall above that I mentioned the shop would have an actual space called 'the parlour', central to its identity.
Below I have listed some activities that the shop's 'HOSTS' could organize during openings, confined to that space.
- Trivia -
Topics range from questions about Karakura's history or folklore, to general knowledge questions about animals, science, 'world facts', etc. Customers would simply need to raise their hands to be called upon. Rewards for 'winning' aren't monetary, as participation is just meant to be 'for fun'. It's casual. Happens often within Tenkai-tei.- Performances -
These could range from a brief musical performance, a play (perhaps designed in such a way to elicit reactions from those eating or seated in the parlour). These performances need not always be given by employees themselves. Hosts may, from time to time, graciously invite local groups within Karakura to perform AFTER vetting them and the performance they intend to give during an opening.- Exhibitions and 'Talks' -
These could be interesting, actually. Now, I note Karakura has no museum. Maybe one is planned. I don't care. This would be a private business, so it'd be TOTALLY FINE if it wanted to host an exhibition in the parlor where certain heirlooms of Karakura's families are shown off, or certain items in general, be it furniture or what have you, antiques, etc. Historians or people who are knowledgeable about whatever is being 'exhibited' could be given a platform to speak. I imagine such exhibitions would be themed, and may involve more than one 'object'. The parlour would be a dynamic space that can be changed as required to facilitate these exhibitions, making for a particularly riveting dining experience you just won't get anywhere else in Karakura. It'd also... be optional. Customers do not need to sit in the parlour. They can sit elsewhere and enjoy their meal in peace if they wish. They will still be served.Special guests from factions or other prominent individuals in Karakura may, from time to time, descend upon Tenkai-tei to visit the parlour and speak to its patrons to spread awareness about any topic, really, that would be 'acceptable' to discuss. I imagine these would be rare, but I imagine 'public issues' that come up from time to time could inform the topics (e.g., rise in attacks on doctors in Karakura, etc). The kind of things Karakura News would report on.
AFTER HOURS
Something else I do not see shops do, but which would work really well for an establishment like Tenkai-tei: allowing the space to be used when it is not formally 'open' or selling anything.
I can totally see Tenkai-tei's 'parlor' being used by various community groups after hours... maybe school clubs or factions who wish to use the versatile and unique space the business provides. Not for anything explicitly criminal, of course.
This seems to be well within a Shopkeeper's rights!
"You may have your own rules and policies for your store so long as it complies with Karakura law In-Character."
MAYBE my Shopkeeper character will let LESS POPULAR groups/assemblies/public figures make use of the space after hours as well. There is no law against that.
This could upset certain other groups in Karakura.
Perhaps those groups will write some letters, denouncing the shop and giving the establishment more exposure!
What will you sell in your shop?:
- The Shop Owner’s interest in tea-culture within and beyond Japan, Karakura’s coastal location, and the town's rich fishing history have all inspired the menu.
- The menu would feature dishes that capitalize on the fishing culture/coastal location of Karakura. So you may sea some seafood show up on the menu. However, the shop will be known for drawing heavily from Thai cuisine on the advice of members of the Nakazumi family.
- In essence, a customer will be presented the options of...
(b) Thai dishes
(c) Wide assortment of tea
|
|
The Thai dishes/food items would progressively added by virtue of the Nakazumi family's desire to see 'an influx of NEW products' sold in Karakura.
| |
|
|
|
|
|
|
Until those meals are properly added to the menu, the shop would initially focus on dishes featuring rice, seafood, and spice.
Tenkai-tei would have a HUGE focus on tea culture as a means to encourage conversation among patrons. The experience one can obtain at the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery’s teahouse can be experienced at Tenkai-tei, with various green teas on the menu, and select employees occasionally hosting small private tea ceremonies.
- Antique teapots (non-consumable) would also be available for sale. Not uncommon, as some places that sell food-related items in Karakura also sell furniture items (which are food), so selling a teapot doesn’t sound crazy.
- SRP has an alarming amount of tea-related items, honestly. I imagine Tenkai-tei would endeavour to offer as much variety as possible.
Another unique option that would eventually feature on the menu would be:
- Butter Tea (po cha)
This was regularly consumed during the shop owner’s studies abroad, and fits nicely on a menu that would heavily feature tea despite not being 'Thai' in origin. I imagine it would be welcome in Karakura’s colder seasons, I should think. There is also the Kohaku Mountain Range, so perhaps those who ascend the mountain range regularly will see particular value in this choice of drink becoming popularized (I can see the DetailRP of people making this beyond the walls of the actual shop, even if the shop is the only one able to sell the item!)
I can see certain other ‘public’ food items fitting neatly onto the menu as well, specifically dishes where rice is featured heavily, or curry-related items.
How many employees do you plan to have?:
Employees would be split into three categories. I estimate that this shop would have 22 employees, plus the Shopkeeper.
(3) Shopkeeper + Management - Two, one ‘in charge’ of each of the other categories. Responsible for assisting with openings, employee induction, etc.
(10) Wait-staff/Cooks - Employees trained on how to behave around the two classes of customers dining at Tenkai-tei, the ‘sequestered’ customers tucked away, and those in and around the parlour. They make and/or deliver food to these customers, taking their order, and greeting them with kindness.
(10) Hosts - Responsible for a range of activities to keep customers entertained, engaged, and ‘coming back’... though only in the parlor. Those ‘sequestered away’ will not receive a visit from these employees unless requested.
Work varies from prompting discussion in the parlor, giving performances, instigating trivia ect.. They may also proactively reach out to certain groups within Karakura, inviting them to the establishment and preparing activities or spectacles in advance for customers, with ‘interactivity’ or discussion being emphasized.
Most performances within Tenkai-tei tend to be traditional, making use of musical instruments available in Karakura, such as the shamisen, biwa, and shakuhachi. Compared to other employees, I imagine the uniforms worn by these performers would vary quite a bit, and they would occasionally wear specialized costumes for certain events.
(?) Security could also be hired as necessary.
CONCEPTUAL REFERENCE FOR 'EMPLOYEE UNIFORMS
I can 100% see an SRP Tailor having an easy time with this.
Black, white, + one other color.
I'd go with red, personally.
Black, white, + one other color.
I'd go with red, personally.
WELL, I'd like to think at the superficial level: I meet all the basic requirements reviewers want to see from a shopkeeper applicant regarding:
- Activity
- Contemporary history vis-a-vis server rules is OK
- Capability to be patient, fair, and use common sense.
So I am left wondering what else I can cite to make me 'stand out' from the numerous other applicants that need to be reviewed. Applicants are, after all, "encouraged to add [their] own questions and information".
Here is what I've come up with:
- Worth noting that I've applied previously, but not just for a shopkeeper role, SPECIFICALLY for a restaurant/cafe, which I am doing again.
- Application (this application) has been revised since the last 'opening' of applications. It was put on 'pending'. This is an entirely 'new' application to be reviewed.
- Involvement with factions: Teacher, Professor, Government, Clubs ... All of these involve collaboration with others to some degree or another, working within a 'team' to an extent, so it is worth citing. If shopkeepers exist to create a space to encourage roleplay, then I can safely say with a degree of confidence I can do that, which may be of some comfort to application reviewers.
- Involvement with Community (EVENT) Team: As far as I'm aware, this helps by showing that, outside of working within a team, I can coordinate events which shops sometimes do independently or in collaboration WITH the Event Team.
- Since making this application, I've dipped my toes into gang/criminal RP a little more, creating a group that has generated a lot of roleplay for others, and continues to do so. I saw a 'gap' with respect to other criminal groups in Karakura: None of them really interacted with the public outside of just committing crimes (robbery, assault, etc). I wanted to create something different, so I did:
https://schoolrp.net/threads/Ꙩnesung.89180/,
https://schoolrp.net/threads/๑-the-tenkai-fellowship-website.87323/.
It has captured attention and attracted QUITE A LOT of commentary.
It was a very intentional choice on my part for 'Tenkai' to feature in the name of the shop. Not only is it a wonderful word, it's ... FAMILIAR to people in Karakura. Perhaps not for the right reasons, but it's definitely A CHOICE.
https://schoolrp.net/threads/letter-to-the-case-of-onesung.87337/
... /threads/onesung-a-statement-from-the-shinsei-seinaru-monastery.89574/
... /threads/letter-the-public-enemy-onesung.89575/
I'd love for this Shop, were it to be brought into existence, to do the same thing. I want it to capture people's imagination and create RP.
Shopkeeper + Shop LORE / Information
I felt it would be right to add this. In a way, shopkeepers themselves encourage and promote RP through their character, so writing something like this, where it assumes the character is already a shopkeeper, and painting a world where that has happened... it can be instructive for application reviewers.
Itsume Nakazumi
An enigmatic member of the Nakazumi Family who one day stopped showing up in the manor, only communicating with the family through letters and emails after going on a pilgrimage overseas. Appears to be in his early thirties.
Returned to Karakura in October 2025, but kept a low profile. Though… some in the community swear he was present at the large-scale fire that occurred in Ochiba Forest that month in 2025, provided a different name for himself to anyone who asked, and was wearing the same clothes as that group… those mannequin ‘salespeople’ mainly accused of being responsible for the fire in Ochiba Forest that year. Itsume and the Nakazumi family leadership refuse to respond to these accusations.
If anything, the Shopowner seems to revel in this notoriety, and one of the first things people see upon entry into Tenkai-tei is a reception area where a framed painting of Ochiba forest ON FIRE is featured prominently. This scandalized those within the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery.
His relatives in the Nakazumi family, particularly family leadership, seem uncomfortable when he is brought up in conversation, simply commenting that he is a ‘brilliant mind’ who has helped the family out of financial difficulties.
In 2026, with the blessing of his family, he was permitted to approach Town Hall to try and establish a business specializing in Thai cuisine, and apply the culinary and business-expertise he picked up while on his pilgrimage to Tibet, where his culinary schools ‘unintentionally’ blossomed. He views the business as a way to ‘expand’ the family’s influence while leading Karakura into a ‘brighter, more luminous future’.
Indeed, he got the idea of this business from members of his family, including an adopted member… evidently of Thai background, who helped him frame the business as an opportunity for ‘culinary diplomacy’ and to present himself to the government as simply one of many beneficiaries of the ‘global Thai initiative’, of which ‘Karakura, could too, be a beneficiary!’
Additional notes about your application: All questions vis-a-vis 'shop information' in the format were answered, simply not in the prescribed order.
Do you have any questions?: No
