Youngjin was born to a lower class family in the busy streets of Seoul. He is the second child and first son of his family, having an older sister, Yena, who is older by three years. He was born with a near perfect face to the Korean beauty standard. As he grew up, he received numerous compliments by his aunts and friends of his mother. When he was two, his parents gave birth to his younger sister, Yeojin. His family was heartbroken when they discovered she was completely deaf, but they were determined to do whatever they could to help their youngest daughter. They enrolled Youngjin and themselves in sign language classes so they would be able to communicate easily with her. He would go to a special class with his family almost everyday to learn the language. When his sister was old enough to go to school, he would help her communicate with teachers and other students as little people understood sign language. He grew really close to his sister because of this. He would often play with her during recess and always walk with her to and from school. One day his mother decided to pick them up from school so they could visit his grandparents in Busan for the weekend. While on their way back to the house, they were stopped in the street by a random woman. She introduced herself as a scout for a popular entertainment company, and asked if Youngjin would be interested in training to be an idol. His mother was against the idea, convinced it was a scam and if it was true, fearing he wouldn’t make it in the entertainment industry. The woman pleaded with her and she begrudgingly took the business card. Youngjin was interested in the woman's offer as he loved watching kdramas and watching idols perform on stage. He pleaded with his mother to let him audition and she eventually agreed. He passed the audition with flying colors. The company was quick to debut him in a commercial for a popular ice cream brand. The media instantly fell in love with him as they loved his cheery personality from such a young age. He was quick to gain a role in an upcoming drama as the son of a Korean emperor. The drama became a huge success and he became a household face in Korea. His fame only grew as he got older and was able to play leads in movies and TV shows. When he was fifteen, he became the lead in his most popular TV show that is still ongoing now. He plays a teenage boy that discovers he is destined to defend the world using his magical abilities from deadly monsters with his friends. His parents gave him grim news that they would be moving to Japan to further their own careers as Youngjin’s success has helped their family get back on their feet. He was sad by the news as his whole life and career is in Korea, but he was unwilling to leave his family and choose to go with them. He came to an agreement with his company that he would fly back to Korea as often as he could to shoot for his TV show, do photoshoots, etc. as he planned to come back once high school was over. Adjusting to life in Japan was different, to say the least. He never struggled with the language as he learned it through his company so they could promote him in Japan as well. He is loosely known in Japan as a few of his TV shows and movies have made their way to the country, but not enough for him to be recognized a lot. Since not many people knew about him, he entered a normal high school as he always wanted to experience what life was like as a normal teenager.
