Describe your activity on the server:
My activity on the server depends entirely on my college and weekly schedule. Generally speaking, however, I am available throughout the weekdays in EST times even if I have obligations in the morning/early afternoon of my own timezone. I’d say more recently I have been on daily, or bi-daily at least. As for what I have been doing on the server, I have yet to apply for a faction or any form of “tag” and, rather, spend my time on the server without much obligation.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

What position are you applying for?:

Judge.

What is your motivation for applying?:
I would say that the role of judge is one which is largely overlooked by most of the server’s players, be this either a fault of engagement and a lack of visibility or be it a lackluster workload. Whilst the government faction may not interest a lot of players, the prospect of law on the server is something which I find myself drawn to in one way or another. I have yet to apply for a faction on SRP and I do think my first faction should be something I can find enjoyment in and can bring something unique to. I genuinely believe that I would be well suited to the position OOCly and that I am capable of roleplaying a compelling character to fit within the bounds of the setting which would provide an excellent experience both for myself as a roleplayer and for the other people my character would affect directly or indirectly.

Do you have an understanding of Karakura’s laws & Constitutional rights?:
Yes. Karakura’s laws are based highly in practicality, laws which are meant to counteract certain actions which have occurred rather than prevent future actions. The constitution lays a framework for a serious level of individual rights and freedoms which only need to be ruled on once for caselaw and precedent to find its way into daily life for those in Karakura. In that way, the government faction holds the most possibility for roleplay and I believe a roster of active and dedicated judiciary staff is all that is needed for the laws and constitution of Karakura to become something truly unique and for it to take a life of its own.

What are your goals for being in Government Faction?:
My goals are to contribute something meaningful to the faction, through professionalism and dedication I seek to add to the consistency of the quality of legal roleplay with a fair and engaging system for people to interact with overall. It is my opinion that a judge should not just be somebody who mechanically and robotically processes cases, but rather somebody who contributes actively to creating an immersive and memorable roleplay environment for those present. A lot of people require judges for their day to day roleplay, be it the most obvious case of criminal law or be it the forms required to be signed and officialised by a judge. The government faction is my first attempt at dedicating myself to something on SRP, and my primary goal above all else is to create a captivating story for the character I intend to play which I can look at and think I have reached a good point with them. Therefore, I would say my goal in a more passive sense is to contribute to the server itself.

In your own words, describe the different roles of the Government Faction:
There are three roles within the government faction which somebody may apply for, which are judge, lawyer, and governor. However, there are two additional roles which consist of faction management, and so are technically roles of the government faction. Of course, those are the mayor and the deputy mayor. I will go over each role in some detail, according to what I know of them.

Mayor & Deputy Mayor
The Mayor is the public figure who leads the government both internally as an administrator and externally as a face. They are responsible for the overall direction of the government faction and their operations in the server, as well as the roster/membership of it out of character. The Mayor is the one who coordinates between the different branches of the faction and ensures the leadership of each respective branch is doing what they should be doing, as well as extending directives and setting the motion of the faction for all others to follow. Likewise, the Deputy Mayor acts as the Mayor’s second in all things, therefore making them more of an extension of the Mayor’s duties rather than their own unique set of expectations. Whenever the Mayor is not available, they act as a natural step-in.

Judge
The role of judge is likely the most recognisable, if not second most recognisable, role in the government faction. Responsible for maintaining a fair and just system, they are the enforcers of procedure and law. They oversee trials, review evidence, and make verdicts on whether or not cases go to trial and whether or not somebody is ruled in favour of, or against. Beyond what they are best known for, they also have a large part to play in the bureaucratic process of the server; they approve adoption paperwork, file restraining orders, officialise marriages for those who meet the requirements, and assist with other legal paperwork. A judge must remain impartial at all times, as the sway they have could mean the difference between the freedom and the imprisonment of a character somebody has spent years playing on. For that reason, judges should remain highly procedural and ensure the legal roleplay remains structured and engaging whilst maintaining a realistic flavour to our custom legal landscape. Additionally, judges are also responsible for approving or denying warrant requests issued by the Karakura Police Department depending on if the evidence presented meets the burden of proof.

Lawyer
The role of legal representation, either as an independent defence attorney, or as a prosecutor for the City of Karakura, is lumped into the all-encompassing role of “lawyer.” To start, a defence attorney is somebody who attends calls for an attorney & meets with their clients in order to ensure that they are represented legally and to do their best to reach their client’s preferred outcome for the case, be that a settlement in a civil case or a certain verdict in a criminal trial. A prosecuting attorney is one who is responsible for representing the interests of the City of Karakura in a criminal case, presenting evidence against an individual to point towards their guilt to ensure their conviction. Besides their trial duties, lawyers are responsible for filing paperwork for those who need it, from lawsuits to restraining orders; they are the ones at the front desk responsible for aiding the average citizen of Karakura, of course whilst building their own list of clientele.

Governor
Governors, despite what the name may suggest, are more akin to city hall clerks or municipal administrators than their namesake role. They are responsible for most public affairs, including the inspection of businesses throughout the city to ensure they are kept up with code, and the surveying of the public in a manner which assists the government in keeping track of the opinion and status of its citizens. Beyond these duties, governors also assist with matters of legalese through managing adoption paperwork and marriage certificates for those who meet the requirements, some of these duties notably seem granted strategically to remove the strain from the backs of the judiciary. Governors are also responsible for front-desk work, serving as those who are approached with general inquiries or with requests for identification cards.

Do you acknowledge that upon being accepted you can be subject to removal at any given time?:
Yes.

Have you read & agreed to follow the Government Faction rules?:
Yes. The government faction has requirements for its members both in and out of character. Naturally, all members of the faction are expected to be on their best behaviour OOCly and keep in line with all rules of the server, and could possibly face removal if they are presented as a rowdy player. This is because members of a faction represent the faction as a whole, and so one bad apple is easier to remove than to risk damaging the reputation of the faction lead. In character, judges are not permitted to act in a manner which is considered childish or unprofessional for the same reputational reasons as following OOC rules, and an individual who roleplays their character in a manner unfitting of faction membership could risk having their whitelist revoked or having their character punished for breaching the code of ethics required of a judge. Finally, you are not permitted to do criminal or gang roleplay on the character you apply for, meaning your government member may not be involved in illicit activities. All of these rules seem fair and appropriate, and I accept them wholeheartedly.

IN CHARACTER SECTION

Full name:

“Friedrich von Moltke”

Preferred title (Mr., Mrs., etc.):
“Mr.”

Current age:
“I am thirty-seven years old. Whilst I understand my youth may be taken into consideration, I have valuable qualifications and life experience which certainly counteracts any doubts of my capability.”

Date of birth:
“I was born on the fourteenth of March, 1989.”

Academic Background:
“I attended my primary and secondary education within the city of Munich. Once my secondary education was complete, I enrolled in Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where I studied between 2008 and 2011, and where I obtained my Bachelor of Laws in International and European law. Throughout my education, I focused heavily on constitutional systems and judicial procedure. After I completed my education, I relocated to Japan in 2012 and continued my education. I took intensive courses on fluency in the Japanese language, and then sought to continue my education. I attended Kyoto University and completed my Juris Doctorate between the years of 2013 and 2016 to retrain into Japanese law, and then decided to end my educational career there. I passed the National Bar Examination in 2017.”

Work experience:
“I have always been in some form of employment throughout my life. In secondary education and whilst working towards my Bachelors I was employed in a part-time capacity for various different restaurant, grocery, and service chains. Throughout my time in Japan whilst I worked towards my Juris Doctorate, I interned for a law firm local to Kyoto, which allowed me to sustain independent living in the city without support from family. After passing the National Bar Examination in 2017 and completing my internship under the courts in 2018, I was employed by the same law firm I interned under as a defence attorney for three years. In late 2021, I had come to the decision to change my career trajectory and took a position under Kyoto city working as a prosecutor for the courts. I continued in this position for some time, until I tendered my resignation in January of this year to undergo a period of application in pursuit of opportunities which may suit me more appropriately, such as the role I am applying for.”

Nationality & born location:
“I was born in Munich, in Germany. However, Japan prohibits dual citizenship and so I renounced my German citizenship whilst I was being nautralised, making me a Japanese national.”

Criminal record:
“I have no charges nor convictions in any jurisdiction.”

What makes you a good candidate for this job?:
“I come from a lengthy judicial background in both education and employment, which makes me a suitable candidate who is both qualified for the position and capable of discharging the duties faithfully. I am a hard worker, having never been removed from a position or been placed on administrative review. I am a strong candidate thanks to my professional experience, yes, but my personal approach to law and judicial procedure from both the standpoint of a defence attorney and a prosecutor makes me a valuable addition to the Karakuran judicial community.

Beyond my wide range of qualifications, I possess the temperament needed for a judge. I am patient and composed, even whilst under the pressure and stresses which come with the territory. Any judicial employee should not allow their personal lives and their work lives to intersect, and that is something I hold to firmly. Therefore, I will treat every case with impartiality and rule according to the laws and constitution of Karakura rather than what I personally believe to be the right outcome. Throughout my career, I have taken great pride in not allowing my personal beliefs to interfere with my interpretation of the law and that would be no different in this position.

Finally, I believe I have strong personal qualities which would see me as a fit candidate for this role. As a man born in Germany and who eventually integrated into Japanese culture, I have a strong respect for the traditions of Karakura. I have a lengthy academic background in both European and Japanese constitutional and criminal law which allows me to serve diligently; judicial independence and the virtues of following the system in all of its procedure is something which I consider to be a personal priority unmatched by any other”
