Tomochin Taikan
It’s Friday - and today I’ve got a brand new report for you about a brand new job.
Last month we explored the ins and outs of being a Lawyer with Yuuka Ohikoa. . And today I have been lucky enough to get an interview with Yuzuki Taikan, who will tell us all about the academic side of things.. Being a tutor!
TT: Would you mind introducing yourself to me? That’d be your name and your occupation
YT: I’m a tutor. I’m 33 and I manage to sustain decent mental health whilst having to deal with children. Many. Many children. Some call me Yuzu, like the citrus fruit.
TT: That’s so interesting, Yuzuki. Now.. How long have you been employed at the school?
YT: Like.. a month and a half. Yeah.
TT: Summarise your work as a tutor for me. What do you do?
YT: I improve people’s grades. Ages 13-20. I teach specifically in Social Studies and the English language.
TT: That sounds quite fascinating. . Would you say your work is fulfilling to you? What made you choose this path?
YT: Well, I didn’t. Every job I aspired to have when I was younger, I was told that I was too overqualified for it. I tried, so many… Many times.. It upsets me, if I’m honest.
TT: I think the work you do is great, Yuzuki. Aren't you glad you chose this career path, helping students?
YT: This job is great, though sometimes I think that people who are struggling, money-wise, need this job. I love teaching students. It makes me feel happy to know that students are leaving school well-educated when period five comes to an end and we’ve managed to make progress with revision.
TT: Awww..That's really quite sweet, Yuzu. I see you value this job very much. How's your bond with the students? How do you see them?
YT: I just see them as people. It may sound boring, but everyone is equal. No favourites. As for the bad kids? I honestly don’t know. My bond is neutral.
TT: And finally.. What words or advice do you have for anyone else wishing to go into this career path?
YT: Tutoring is life-changing. . Literally. Applying at KHS is honestly so worth it, and it’s one of the more down to earth jobs available. If this is what you want to do - do it.TT: Thank you Yuzuki, this interview was particularly enjoyable!
That’s it, folks! Yuzuki schooled us on the life of being a tutor, and even gave some of her raw advice on the topic. . How inspirational, and keep your eyes peeled - because this month we’re going to treat you with two editions.
