An Article written by His Excellency, Mr. Geun Maeng, Reporter of Karakura News.
Across Karakura the remnants of shops that once were exist, collecting dust for reasons either left to mystery or known to the public. A natural part of the progression of time storefronts hold a potential to become abandoned as they either go out of business or simply move to a new location. Many abandoned storefronts can be linked back to the reconstruction of Shōtengai, also known as the Shopping District. In which many storefronts moved following the construction period of the new and improved locale.
From the outside it's hard to tell exactly which outcome may be the explanation, which of course your friendly neighborhood reporter comes in to do that for you! Read on as you discover the outcomes to these mysterious plots. Starting with:
Mori Mart
Located under Complex K lays a large structure in essence taking up space, the windows fully blacked out and doors blocked to the public. This monolith is what used to be known as Mori Mart, a name that may ring a bell for veterans of Karakura as its doors have been closed for some time. Mori Mart was a family business that operated at this location for some time, all that remains however being an untouched advertisement for the Shinboshi Indoor Mall. However- this advertisement holds a purpose. The remaining remnants from this endeavor sits quietly within one of the stalls at Shōtengai. That being, Mori Butchers. Seemingly, the once large establishment moved operations with a fall from grace from a once large establishment to a small stall at the now present Shinboshi Indoor Mall. However, before we quickly resort to the worst outcome we may want to consider some alternatives. The Mori family name does appear elsewhere, that being the Mori Mart branded Soy Sauce. This item indicates a potential move to other smaller more consolidated endeavors. Perhaps the family stepped back from the grocery mart approach and instead now runs various centralized operations, with Mori Butchers and Branded Soy Sauce simply being the two this reporter discovered.

Itsyboshi District Storefronts
Located in the Southeast corner of Karakura is the Itsyboshi District, known most for holding both the Saiky and Akihito Estates, Complex L, School Dorms and a small neighborhood where the Sports Dorms once stood. Like any perceived quiet corner of Karakura it still basks in its history. Unlike the previously discussed Mori Mart the abandoned storefronts are not due to failing or changing business, instead a simple change of scenery. The storefronts in question are: Daini no ie, Umisachi and Moritachi Motors. All of which are still prosperous and actively ran businesses and establishments. The ladder however, would leave us a helpful note for curious visitors such as ourselves.Dear Valued Customers,
Moritachi Motors has now moved to the Shōtengai, thank you for your custom.
- M. Moritachi
This note as expected provides a clear look into what occurred for Moritachi Motors, and what one can assume followed for the other remaining storefronts in the district. This is supported as all these establishments remain to this day and sit elegantly in Karakura's own Shōtengai.
Business Park, Abandoned Locations
The previously listed establishments all hold an extended or viewable history to them. These following establishments or simply locations on the other hand do not follow suit. Being in short a victim to simply gathering dust with little explanation left to those who sit in front of it now. In part however, this is due to many locations potentially never holding an establishment in the first place, for such a case we take our journey to the Business Park. A district in itself holding a plethora of apartment complexes and businesses, the zoning and build seem to indicate that any floor above street level was to be turned into living units while the ground floor would be kept for various businesses. Evident by the various locations present, including the Movie Theatre, Karakura Arcade and restaurants such as Taberu-Yurusu and Hayabusa. However, before we delve into the genuine businesses of Karakura that hold presence in the district we can start at the ground floor of Complex M’s northmost side. The street extending along Complex J holds various blacked out establishments which, simply, hold no semblance of life. Not now, or ever really. Again, all based on appearances it seems that no establishments have existed or will exist at these locations, all holding fairly small footprints its up to debate whether anything would exist along this street.
But, returning to our more lively establishments we have an abandoned Hayabusa building, or at least what remains at this corner of Complex M. Hayabusa is still a proud and active shop in Karakura, who in fact have been actively searching for applicants as this report was written. No debate should be given to the substance and presence of this store, they are around and more than ever! Instead of some odd demise we simply have the results of a chance of scenery once again. While a fairly new storefront to Karakura the establishment has moved locations, going from a quaint corner of Complex M next to the all you can eat Taberu-Yurusu to the previous Kirei Hana location near the southern most side of the Karakura Hospital. Seemingly packing up in the hurry the previous Kayabusa building still holds its branding and interior which is enterable by the public. While this reporter does not support entering any seemingly abandoned building this once, feels like an outlier. As stated the inside still holds the layout as it did before and the branding remains, one must ask did the Owners forget to clean up after themselves? While too little concern I do question if it may be confusing for potential customers.

New Structures, A Snippet.
While one could always write about the newest locations popping up in Karakura, that is not the purpose of this article. However, due to the fact that many buildings that were once abandoned have been filled up during the writing of this article it seems pertinent to mention it. The Shotengai for quite a while had many unopened and somewhat closed establishments, however in the mere month that this article was to be worked on it seems that many of such locations were filled up! Which while wonderful for the local economy is a small shame for this reporter, the townsfolk may never learn about the runaway Onrain HQ that seemed to pack up and vanish! Whose to say, this reporter may be getting a tad bit tired of all the bustle that remains present across this city. But moving away from this old man's jabber, let's talk specifics:- As mentioned, Onrain HQ would leave. Being replaced by Osozaki.
- Two empty establishments across from Karakura Bank would be filled by a Heartbucks and Lunaria Atelier.
- Kirei Hana would move, filling in an additional empty location.
- Kiku Dokyo would be replaced with Tedzukuri.
- Yona-Yona would close its doors.

With that, we have covered the full lifecycle as it seems for the various shops and establishments to be found across Karakura. Life, existence, nonexistence and more all looked over through this report. Sounds like a lot of work doesn’t it? Perhaps then we leave at a good place for this article to retire. If anything is to be taken, this reporter hopes you continue to look upon the city with an open eye, notice what there is to notice and well, document it. Too many stories have been left to the past, or perhaps this reporter's eyes are simply not opened wide enough, I blame the age.
Respectfully, Geun Maeng
