KARAKURA NEWS | Karakura's Forest Fire

fire title.png

Did you know that 13% of all fires that happen worldwide are deliberate? That’s an estimated 210,300 fires per year that people wanted to start – and the recent fire in Karakura may be no different! Though, we’ll look at the facts and figures before delving into any theories.
fire2 (1).pngOn an unsuspecting Friday morning, at roughly 3:30am GMT+9 [IC Time], smoke began to drift upward from behind the brand new Shōtengai, where the new mansions are set to be built. That new building site, gone up in flames… Only a few members of the public stumbled upon it initially, but soon enough, groups of civilians began pouring into the area. And with groups being near the carnage, injury was soon to follow.

From accidental burns from fire licking up at people, to individuals tripping and landing in the flames… It was utter chaos almost from the start. As the burning orange hue travelled from the pile of dirt to the trees just behind it, our saviours in riot gear showed up; KPD! Armed with fire extinguishers and gas masks, they made swift work of clearing the scene and putting out the fires while paramedics from the hospital checked the injured out, treating them and taking them back to the hospital!

All in all, it was just a pretty sight with a few injuries here and there. Thankfully, Karakura’s amazing emergency services helped out with controlling the carnage. Though, that begs the question – What was it like for them? And why did the fire start in the first place?

Initially, an interview was conducted with the police department, to see how they handled the situation, as well as finding out what they think might have started such a large fire!

Jesse Miller: I'm assuming you were there, responding to the fire. Can you give me a rundown of how y'all ended up there, initially?

Lorenzo Ferrera: We initially responded due to a inflood of calls coming in. Paramedics also responded on scene shortly before us, so communication was used between them. We rounded up as many as we could, geared up, then headed to the fire to assist as much as we could.

Jesse Miller: Sounds stressful! When you say geared up what do you mean by that? And how long did it take to put the fire out?

Lorenzo Ferrera: Riot gear. It helps us get closer to the fire, as well as extinguishers. It couldn't have been too long after we got there? I'd say about 30 minutes to get the fire tamed? After that we could push it back and extinguish it within the next few minutes. So about 40 minutes after we got there.

Jesse Miller: I saw y'all with the extinguishers - I honestly didn't know if we had ones that worked.. The riot gear looked pretty sick. Do you have any theories or, well.. know why the fire started in the first place?

Lorenzo Ferrera: They are extremely nice. The commissioner makes sure we have top of the line equipment to handle these situations! So even though we don't use them much. We can rely on them to work. Theories? There are many. But nothing we want to go concrete with. Natural cause or Man made. We will do our best to look into what happened today.

Jesse Miller: There was a pretty strong smell of gasoline in the air. Ya think someone could'a started it?

Lorenzo Ferrera: It's a definite possibility. But the last thing we want to do is pin the blame on someone with no confirmation. With all the wildlife and individuals there. Our top priority was to stop the fire. Now we can begin to look for a culprit. Or rather the source of the fire.

Jesse Miller: That's a relief. I hope y'all figure out who did it! Or.. what happened.. Or somethin'. Thank you so much for your time.

After the brief interview with the detective, and a quick run over to the hospital, a second interview was conducted with one of the paramedics on scene! This was to find out their side of things, figure out how many people actually got injured and, well… Find out their theories!

Jesse Miller: You were there when the fire was called in, correct? Can you give me a brief rundown of how you all ended up there initially?

Cadell Wen: Of course. A few calls came in, reporting a fire in the forest so a Paramedic, along with one of our higherups and another doctor headed over. At first, we weren't quite sure where the fire was actually located, but after passing the cabins the smoke, yelling, and everything made it clear a big fire started at the new construction site near Shopping District. KPD was quick to react, and had the fire put out relatively quickly and a few unconscious citizens were rushed to the hospital. The scene at the actual fire wasn't all too chaotic, as the officers were quick to crowd control and the number of burn victims was low.

Jesse Miller: How many people would you estimate got hurt in the fire? A rough estimate, that is. You said low. Can I get a number? And if you can disclose were they majority first, second, or third degree?

Cadell Wen: I would say about five or so? In the heat of treatment we only had one large trauma room left. As I was busy with a patient myself, I didn't have time to see the degree of the other patients, but I assume a majority was third degree.

Jesse Miller: Awesome. That's always good to hear. And - just out of curiosity, do you have any theories on how the fire started?

Cadell Wen: Could've been a barrel that caught fire as it was a construction site, or just arsonists. I'm not the biggest theorist.

Jesse Miller: Thank you for your time.
