Every household is adorned with pieces of interior that a family can be proud of. From a signature fireplace to a well-loved couch where loved ones gather to watch a show or play console games, every household has their favourites. In this article, the writer will be discussing popular favourites among homeowners in Karakura. Some of the responses may come as a surprise to you, or maybe not! Maybe some readers share the same sentiments as some of the respondents in the writer’s survey.

During this survey, the writer was fortunate to interview many homeowners of all demographics, and during the survey, their responses surprisingly converged around the same domains. To begin, the writer would like to thank all the homeowners that were kind enough to let him visit their homes for the survey. The writer has definitely been enriched in the many different styles of interior design, from traditional Japanese interiors, to maximalist lifestyles!

The writer asked several homeowners on their favourite series of furniture, and why. Apart from asking for residents’ favourite interior pieces, the writer had also conducted a count of the most-seen pieces of furniture during the survey. He was fortunate to have counted over 60 different pieces of furniture, and will present the following findings in a table.

The writer classified all furniture into 7 categories; Appliances, Ceiling/Wall items, Comfort, Decorations, Devices, Game items, and Tables & Counters. Furniture such as toasters and ovens are classified under the Appliances category, while items such as curtains and wall shelves are under the Ceiling/Wall items. In the Comfort category, beds and chairs of all types were included in the count. In the Decorations category, potted plants, traffic cones and mirrors. Some devices that were counted include gaming PCs and televisions. Game items include furniture such as pool tables, and dart boards. Lastly, in the Tables & Counters category, interior pieces such as coffee tables and nightstands were included in the count. The writer would also like to clarify that sinks, fridges, and wardrobes were not included in this count.

Top: A chart of the homeowners’ furniture.

As seen in the chart, the furniture category with the most amount of furniture counted went to the Decorations category. Surprisingly, the category coming in 2nd highest would be the Comfort category, with chairs and beds included in that category. As for the lowest category, only 3 Game items were counted. This could be due to the furnitures, such as dart boards and arcade consoles not fetching such a high demand among homeowners, instead finding more demands at arcades and businesses. After some further research, I also found out that another possible reason for the low count of Game items could be attributed to their high prices. For example, the air hockey table is priced at ¥30,000.

As for the items with high demands, these could include the Decorations and Comfort categories. The Decoration category’s high count standing at 14, could be attributed to the cheaper prices and simplicity of these pieces, ranging from small potted plants, to Christmas trees. These items add detail and have the ability to personalise any living space! The writer had the privilege of being able to visit numerous homes to look at their very unique living spaces. During that time, the writer saw a few decorations that homeowners had put up that stood out to him.

Apart from Decorations, another category that stood out would be the Comfort category. The category includes furniture that one would usually sit, or rest on, hence the title. This includes beds, dining chairs, and stools. Numerous homeowners who participated in the survey owned one or more pieces in the category, most of which being sofas and wooden chairs. When interviewing homeowners, many homeowners highlighted that their favourite set of furniture would be the Gaming range, which includes a gaming chair, a desk, a build and a gaming monitor to complete the set.

Apart from popular categories of furniture, the writer surveyed homeowners on their favourite sets of furniture. As seen above, some respondents mentioned the Gaming set being their favourite, due to it’s design and it’s practicality, since it was designed for gaming, after all! The set is commonly used by teenagers, and young adults for their gaming needs. It can be found at Karakea, the furniture store behind Karakura High & Community College.

Apart from the Gaming range being the crowd favourite, another response stood out to the writer. To some, it may just be some outdoor camping apparatus, but to others, it is the Camping Tent ‘Daisuki Yohin’, an iconic yellow outdoor tent with the company’s logo of a fish on it! The iconic yellow tent can be found at Daisuki Yohin on display, and around the city at various homes. The writer got to try out the tent, and would like to remark that it is spacious enough for a grown man to fit in and rest. If you would like to see the tent for yourself, you can head to the Daisuki Yohin store, which has the tent on display. The writer would also like to clarify that they were not sponsored by Daisuki Yohin, although if they would like to sponsor him, they may reach out via the appropriate avenues.

In conclusion, the ownership of furniture and how one uses them to create personality in their own home is subjective. Some people enjoy a certain range of furniture for their use, or for their looks, while others may dislike it, or prefer other sets to complete their warm home. However, to some, they may find the range of furniture that the local furniture store, Karakea, and other furniture stores in Karakura, small. Some homeowners surveyed mentioned looking forward to more ranges in furniture choices, such as shelves, and lighting choices. Upon further research, the writer found that there were not many choices for the aforementioned, thus, homeowners may have to resort to using the same set of furniture for their shelving and lighting needs.

What do you, the reader, think of the state of furnishings in Karakura? Do you agree with the homeowners surveyed and their choices in favourite furniture sets, or do you have a different idea of what furniture lines could come out in the future? Let this author know!
