Everyone has tasted sugar before (and if you haven’t, you’re missing out), but why exactly do we find ourselves so fond of it? It’s a very well known fact that the stuff is overtly appealing to our tastebuds, but is there a reason for this?
Short answer, yes!

Long answer..
Sugar can stimulate the cells in the brain, giving you an elated sense of happiness. We tend to mentally associate this as a reward, causing that effect where you keep wanting more. Sugar is a simple carbohydrate, which quickly turns into glucose in the bloodstream. This spikes your blood sugar levels, creating that iconic “sugar high” effect. Most foods we eat actually contain simple carbohydrates– fruits, vegetables, even dairy– but those contain other things that help slow the processes. Sugar doesn't, which is why it provides such an addicting energy boost.
Glucose is moved out of the bloodstream and into your cells to create energy. Insulin is created from this, which can cause a sudden drop in those blood sugar levels. The rapid change is what causes that “sugar low,” as your body adjusts to the sudden change, and you get that shaky and exhausted sensation. This is what causes you to seek out more; ultimately, that is what makes sugar as enticing as we all know it to be.

To all the readers that saw science involved and immediately scrolled down to the bottom to see if it got more interesting, this section is for you.

I’ve asked around the town of Karakura to see which of these 6 common treats is the most popular. Do you agree with the results? Feel free to let us know!
First, however, it is important to know what our 6 common options are:
Ice Cream
Ice cream is a cold, sweet treat, made from mostly milk, cream, and sugar, and flavoured in various creative ways. It is most often eaten as a dessert, served in a cone, bowl, or cup, with toppings ranging from sprinkles to whipped cream.
Cake
Cake is a fluffy treat made mostly for celebrations and parties. It is usually made from a mixture of flour, sugar, eggs, and butter, with mostly basic flavours. Cakes can be plain, though most are decorated with frosting and toppings, decorated for the occasion it is intended for.
Donuts
Donuts are sweet, bread-like desserts that are most often round, either with a hole in the middle or a jam or custard filling. They are either fried or baked, and then covered in toppings, including but not limited to; glaze, sprinkles, powdered sugar, and even fruit.
Cookies
Cookies are small, snack-like treats made from different types of dough (a mix of sugar, flour, and butter usually) to create different variations. Most commonly, chocolate chips or nuts are baked in, either until soft or crunchy, depending on preference.
Brownies
Brownies are soft, sweet chocolate treats that are baked in a pan, and often cut into squares or rectangles. They’re usually rich, baked into a chewy dessert with sometimes nuts or extra chocolate chips, and on some occasions powdered sugar or other toppings to make them visually appealing.
Milkshakes
Milkshakes are a simple, sweet drink made from blending milk and ice cream together, and adding flavours like chocolate or fruit. A thick mixture is created, often accompanied by whipped cream or other fun toppings, and then served in a cup with a straw.
