A scroll has been retrieved as of the 5th of March, 2023. The date of the letter is the 9th of January, 1623.

To Lady Kaseya Kazenotome of Itsbyoshi
Rumours have been spreading around your Divine Household that Lady Kaseya Tsugumi has been betrothed to the heir of the Takagi Family of Itsbyoshi, Takagi Hachiro. There are certain concerns revolving such a political move, being that the Imperial Court has already requested the presence of Lady Tsugumi Kaseya within the Emperor’s court to bestow the title of Kuge upon her. It is the duty of my household to ensure that stability remains on this island and to the descendants of the Tenoshison, whether residing in Ochiba, Itsbyoshi, Hokuseibu, or Shizukanamichi. Oversee that your granddaughter is in the correct hands or the Tenoshison will.

Yours Truly,
Feudal Lord Tenoshison Shinjin of Shizukanamichi

SCROLL 102: A SUMMONING FROM HIS IMPERIAL MAJESTY, THE EMPEROR
AUTHOR: THE IMPERIAL COURT, EDO
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT ATTIC
DATE FOUND: April 2nd, 2024

A scroll has been retrieved as of the 2nd of April, 2024. The date of the letter is the 3rd of January, 1623.

To The Regal House of Kaseya and Divine House of Tenoshison
The Imperial Court of Edo has been informed of a gifted woman from amongst your clans who possesses an unbiased eye for judgment and the power to detect false truths. The emperor decreed that Kaseya Tsugumi be summoned to Edo at the earliest possible date to join the ranks of the court and establish herself as the emperor's confidant. Should Lady Tsugumi be successful, the emperor may ask for her hand from the two houses. In addition, the imperiousness of your two houses is regarded highly by the court, suggesting that both houses have the right to establish estates in Edo instead of Karakura should they wish.

Yours truly,
The Imperial Court

SCROLL 103: TAKAGI TSUGUMI ENTERS HER LABOURS
AUTHOR: IWAMOTO TSURU
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT ATTIC
DATE FOUND: August 3rd, 2024

A scroll has been retrieved as of the 3rd of August, 2024. The date of the letter is the 8th of December, 1624.

To Lady Iwamoto Mirai, Head Maid of the Tenoshison Household
On behalf of the Takagi Household, I am urgently here to inform you that my lady, Takagi Tsugumi, has entered her labours and will give birth to her first child soon. Lady Hishison Rina has ordered me to send a summoning to the midwives of the Tenoshison Palace to immediately endeavour to Itsbyoshi to ensure that Lady Takagi Tsugumi is in a healthy condition. My personal worries are about the storm outside, as this has been a very cruel year when it has come to the weather, so I advise caution when travelling. Ensure the safety of the entourage making its way to Takagi Palace per the orders of Lord Takagi himself.

Yours truly,
Miss Iwamoto Tsuru, Lady Takagi Tsugumi's Attendant

SCROLL 104: TAKAGI HIRAKU BANISHED
AUTHOR: TAKAGI TSUGUMI
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT DRAWING ROOM
DATE FOUND: 1st of September, 2022

A scroll has been retrieved as of the 1st of September. The date of the letter is the 17th of October, 1642.

To Lord Takagi Hiraku
It is displeasing to be informed that my own son leaves the island for a Takagi affair, only for him to end up in a relationship with a commoner. How dare you get involved with someone that I have not approved of, and not only have you not sought my consent, but you dare get with a commoner? You're the heir to the Takagi Clan, Hiraku, and you've had a future coming. However, you've made your mother livid. Should I see you in my presence again, know that you will be banished from my grounds. I have decreed the following:
  • The descendants of Takagi Hiraku and Kyoko shall not carry the Takagi name and are to be bestowed their mother's maiden name.
  • Otori Tsuneo shall be banished from my sight for his involvement in this affair, having assisted Takagi Hraku in this scandal and attempted to conceal it.
  • Takagi Hiraku is barred from participating in any Takagi affair and from attending or having an audience with Takagi Tsugmi.
The previous decrees are nonnegotiable and will remain until the end of time. This commoner family shall not believe itself to be equal to those who have had the honour of being wed to the Takagi Clan, such as the Kaseya and Tenoshison.
You are no longer my firstborn, Hiraku, for you have defied me.

Yours truly,
Lady Takagi Tsugumi

SCROLL 301: KASEYA KANATA HAS GIVEN BIRTH TO A DAUGHTER
AUTHOR: KASEYA KAZENOTOME
LOCATION: ITSBYOSHI TRAIL RUINS
DATE FOUND: October 14th, 2024

A scroll has been retrieved from Itsbyoshi Trail Ruins. The date of the scroll is January 16th, 1605.

It is with great honour to the entire Court of Hokuseibu to announce that Lady Kaseya Kanata has given birth to Lord Kaseya Yoshie’s firstborn, a daughter with great promise for tomorrow, on the 16th of October, 1605. It has been declared that the daughter shall be named Kaseya Tsugumi. As a result of such a momentous occasion, the Tenoshison Clan herby offers a ceremony in its palace courtyard in Shizukanamichi—all residents of Karakura, whether kuge or not, are welcome within palace walls. Should a guest bring presents, please drop them at the palace gates.

With Honour and Might,
Lady Kaseya Kazenotome

SCROLL 105: A STRANGE PRESENCE WITHIN TAKAGI HUT
AUTHOR: MASUO TENMA
LOCATION: HOKUSEIBU PALACE, CURRENLY KNOWN AS JINSEI ZEN GARDEN
DATE FOUND: August 12th, 1999

A scroll has been retrieved from Jinsei Zen Garden with the date of 30th of December, 1722,

To Lady Masuo Misaki
My great honourable mother, I send you my best regards and wish you a long life.
I write to you, my mother, after discovering very strange findings. After a recent endeavour to Takagi Hut, your marvellous teacher's residence before her passing, I have encountered quite strange phenomena which include painted figures moving within their portraits, strange shadows following those that visit, and the strangest of all is the tight lock on the attic of the hut. Countless efforts and attempts have been made to pry open the trap door to the attic; however, to no avail. I dared not climb Lady Takagi’s sacred roof, should the gods catch me and curse me to all eternity.

The reasoning behind my attempt to visit the attic is the rumours of Lady Takagi’s immense possession of knowledge and scrolls that contain secrets of Karakura and our kami. If you have any notion of how to enter the attic, or possess the key to or know an individual of your family or her's hat does, please send to me and I will see to it.

Your Loyal and Virtuous Son,
Masuo Tenma

SCROLL 359: HEIR TO THE TAKAGI DYNASTY
AUTHOR: TAKAGI PALACE
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT BASEMENT
DATE FOUND: September 8th, 2025

A scroll has been retrieved from Takagi Hut's basement with the date 4th of November, 1852.

It is with great honour to the Takagi Family and Itsbyoshi-Karakura to announce the birth of Takagi Genma to Lord Takagi Akihisa, Lord Yoshiro Takagi's son, and Lady Takagi Ayane on the 3rd of November, 1852. To raise morale in such difficult times and to celebrate this newborn son's arrival, the Takagi Family will host a festival in Seikatsu on the 8th of November. More on the festival is to be announced in following decrees.

With Glory and Grace,
Takagi Palace

SCROLL 134: CONFIRMATION OF RETURN
AUTHOR: IWAMOTO DAICHI
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT ATTIC
DATE FOUND: October 28th, 2025

A scroll has been retrieved from Takagi Hut's attic with the date 1st of November, 1634.

To Lady Takagi Tsugumi, The Regent of Hokuseibu
Per your directions and orders, my Lady, we have successfully returned the urn you bestowed upon us to its rightful place in Shinsei Seinaru Monastery in Ochiba. Based on the words in the street, many claim to have had a peaceful morning today, proof of your Ladyship's success in last night's Himitsu no Tamishi ritual for this year. Karakura does not deserve your limitless kindness, for you have graced us with much more beyond your imperial presence. I, Iwamoto Daichi, continue to serve your regal household with dignity.

With much honour,
Mr. Iwamoto Daichi

SCROLL 121: A SPIRITUAL QUERY - CONFIDENTIAL
AUTHOR: TAKAGI TSUGUMI
LOCATION: SHINSEI SEINARU MONASTERY
DATE FOUND: May 19th, 2025

A scroll has been retrieved from Shinsei Seinaru Monastery's abandoned shrine with the date 6th of January, 1686

To the Mitsue of Shinsei Seinaru Shrine, High Priest of Karakura
Age is a disease that affects every being alive, whether human, animal, or plant, and despite my status not only in the island, but the empire, I am succvmbing to this disease too. Chiharu has been kind enough to allow me to live for so long, and I thank her for the long life she has bestowed on me.

But I cannot leave Karakura be and depart for the next realm. This world cannot exist without my intervention. Mitsue of Seinaru, I plead your help. And to have the Regent of Hokuseibu plead is no ordinary feat.

I plan to bestow fans upon the ton; fans of my own creation. I request you to teach me the art of [REDACTED]. With such ability, I will keep my eye upon Karakura for many years to come, guiding the sons and daughters of the island to a glorious light.

I await your response urgently.

Yours truly,
Lady Takagi Tsugumi, Regent of Hokuseibu

SCROLL 161: URGENCY IN LEGITIMACY

AUTHOR: HISHISON RINA

LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT ATTIC

DATE FOUND: April 12th, 2026

A scroll has been retrieved from Takagi Hut's attic with the date 4th of April, 1650.

To the Courts of Edo and Kyoto,
I write to you urgently on the matter that the Hokuseibu Court is facing a dispute that is the first of its kind. Your decree for my lady’s position is being compromised by the very people of the island, and as such, they question her position in governing the island. Though this request might sound bizarre, I implore you to take it into consideration. The governance of Izu shall land upon my lady, for if such a title were granted, then the Lady Takagi Tsugumi shall not be questioned, and your appointment shall not be queried. This letter is written with haste, for it requires an answer with haste.

Best regards,
Lady Hishison Rina

SCROLL 112: BANISHMENT OF THE TENOSHISON
AUTHOR: TAKAGI TSUGUMI
LOCATION: TAKAGI HUT ATTIC
DATE FOUND: April 12th, 2026

A scroll has been retrieved from Takagi Hut’s attic with the date 12th of May, 1627.

To Feudal Lord Tenoshison Shinjin
It has been a few years since my ascension, Lord Tenoshison, and ever since, the Tenoshison have withdrawn themselves from the public eye, yet my court continues to receive your letters of threats and bribes to rule in your favour. How ridiculous can you be?

You may be my great uncle, and I may be a Tenoshison daughter, but the divine light of the Tenoshison is no longer in the hands of its main house, not to a son, at the very least. A daughter has risen, and it is I. You have seven sons, and none in my eye are suitable to even serve as servants to the attendants of my courtier’s advisors.

The Tenoshison are no longer. Not you, at the very least. Claiming to have cursed Karakura from your seat in Shizukanamichi has done you no good. I am the Regent of Karakura. I am the Matron of Shinboshi. And should the days of my regency continue, which they will, I shall shine Karakura with my grace and compassion.

The Tenoshisons are no longer. I remain the final Tenoshison descendant. I remain the true descendant of the great house of Yamato. Not even his Imperial Majesty. The Tenoshison will be exiled, and should you try to curse Karakura even more beyond that of what you have done to my vault and the urn we have found, I will ensure your beheading.

My title, from now forth, is the Lady Takagi Tsugumi of Itsbyoshi and Shizukanamichi, Regent of Hokuseibu, Matron of Shinboshi, Mistress of Seikatsu, Matriarch of Tenoshison, and Mother of Karakura.

I dare you. Defy me.

With imperial might,
Lady Takagi Tsugumi

SCROLL 174: INSTRUMENTS FROM TAISEI
AUTHOR: SAIKY TOMOKO
LOCATION: SHIZUKANAMICHI HERITAGE GROUNDS
DATE FOUND: August 11th, 2026

A scroll has been retrieved from the Shizukanamichi Heritage Grounds with the date 15th of September, 1880

Dear Auntie Saiky Naoko,
I am so pleased to be assigned as a lady-in-waiting to Lady Takagi Mirei. I accompany her everywhere and never leave her side. If I continue, I surely will be elected as her favourite confidant and achieve a higher status than the other ladies. I often see Lord Saiky Motonari in court, and he even brings little cousin Muenori. Surely, Muenori shall be a great head for our mighty clan once it is his time, just like his father and grandfather. I still remember the reverence Lord Saiky Akinori brought to whichever room he walked into, even at our annual balls. No other family hosts balls as glamorous as ours!

Speaking of the balls, Lady Mirei has brought strange instruments that are most similar to the kokyū from her recent visit to Tokyo. Still, much too strange to call it Tokyo. I prefer Edo, but none can defy His Imperial Majesty the Emperor. Apologies, I write too much. No matter. She calls them 'violins' or something along those lines, and wishes that we play them for her. Mayhaps, we can have such instruments played at the next ball? Mine is a beautiful green with golden trims that matches my kimono, whilst Heddo Yasuko's is blue. She even gifted these instruments, albeit not as grand as mine or Yasuko's, to the attendant's courtiers!

I also write per my Lady's order. If the ball is to be hosted soon, mayhaps you rethink hosting it other than in October, as we will most certainly be busy with Seinaru to ensure Himitsu no Tamishi is dealt with, asks Lady Mirei. She is aware that Auntie Saiky Reiko, the Mitsue-Shiro, is more than excellent at dealing with these troubles on her own, but she would like to support Karakura just as her revered ancestor did. Bless the Matron.

I am looking forward to our tea ceremony next week.

Best regards,
Your beloved niece, Saiky Tomoko

SCROLL 176: HIMITSU NO TAMASHI MISSING
AUTHOR: SAIKY REIKO
LOCATION: SHINSEI SEINARU MONASTERY
DATE FOUND: August 10th, 2026

A scroll has been retrieved from the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery in Kohaku with the date 3rd of October, 1880

To the Itsbyoshi Court of Karakura
My urn is gone this year, and I cannot find it anywhere. But you already know that, do you not? For the Mistress's sake. For my ancestors' sake. For Chiharu's sake. It is the third day of October, and the third day the urn has been missing. I have ensured that Itsbyoshi and, specifically, Saiky guards watch the urn before midnight, and yet someone has been able to rob it. Do not claim that it was the spirits. They cannot do such a thing. I know them better than you all. Leaving all your trash to me to deal with. My predecessor, Inoa Shoubusako, knows of your corrupt claims.

Send out your guards and search parties at once and find me the urn before I resort to other means and use whatever items in my way to trap any escaped spirits. What is worse is that there is a claim that some Kegaremono have escaped this time. Do you know how awful it is? Get me my urn back, or so help me, Chiharu, I will use those beloved relics you have from Taisei as cages for escaped spirits.

Spirits are real. Do not claim they are not. And dare not claim that the ritual of Himitsu no Tamashi is either. Do not forget that the Matron herself initiated the ritual. She gave you this legitimacy of ruling, so do not DEFY HER!

Yours truly,
Mitsue-Shiro of Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, Lady Saiky Reiko
