I'm usually on almost every day. I am in college, so there will be times that I won't be on for a while, but I get on at the end of the day. I have been playing on the server for about seven months now, primarily roleplaying as my Grade 12 student character. During my time on the server, I have become familiar with the basic rules, expectations, and overall standards of roleplay. I understand what is appropriate to do and what should be avoided when it comes to maintaining a good roleplay experience. My time on the server has also helped me become more comfortable interacting with other players, participating in different situations, and adapting to various roleplay scenarios. I believe the experience I have gained so far will help me contribute positively to the Shrine Faction while continuing to improve my roleplay skills.

What is your motivation for applying?
My character Ji’naeh was inspired to become a shrine priest because of her father, who dedicated his life to caring for and protecting his own shrine. Growing up, she watched him perform rituals, maintain the shrine, and help people who came to seek guidance or blessings. His dedication left a lasting impression on her and taught her the importance of faith, responsibility, and serving others. Ever since I started playing again, I have been interested in applying for the Shrine Faction because I believe it is a beautiful and creative faction to be a part of. I have always found the traditions, atmosphere, and roleplay surrounding shrines to be interesting, and I would love the opportunity to learn more about them while also contributing to the community. Another reason I want to join is that I see it as a great learning experience. Being part of the Shrine Faction would allow me to learn about shrine traditions, customs, responsibilities, and how to properly roleplay as someone who works within a shrine. I also think it would help me improve my roleplay skills by giving me opportunities to interact with different players and create meaningful experiences for others.

Shintoism is a traditional Japanese belief system that focuses on respecting nature, ancestors, and the kami, or spirits and deities. I understand that shrines are sacred places where people can pray, make offerings, and take part in rituals to show respect to the kami.

BACKSTORY

Ji’naeh grew up in a large family, being one of seven children. Her siblings were Kara, the oldest, followed by Takeru, Ashitaka, Luma, and the youngest two, Yuma and Tonya. Growing up with so many siblings was never quiet or easy, but Ji’naeh learned from a young age how to look after others, share responsibilities, and remain patient even when things became difficult.
Her father was a shrine priest who ran his own shrine and was well respected by the people who visited it. To Ji’naeh, he was someone she admired deeply. She spent much of her childhood watching him perform rituals, care for the shrine, and speak with visitors. However, behind his duties as a priest, her father struggled with alcohol. He drank heavily, and there were times when his drinking affected the family and made life at home difficult. Ji’naeh often found herself caught between admiring her father for the good he did and feeling hurt by the choices he made.
Her mother worked at an inn, often spending long hours caring for guests and helping keep the business running. Because both of her parents were busy with their responsibilities, Ji’naeh and her siblings often had to rely on one another. As she grew older, Ji’naeh became especially protective of her younger siblings, Yuma and Tonya. She learned to be dependable even when she was struggling herself.
Despite the difficulties in her childhood, Ji’naeh never came to resent the shrine or the traditions her father followed. Instead, she began to see the shrine as something separate from his personal struggles. She believed that the teachings and traditions were meant to bring people peace, guidance, and a connection to something greater than themselves.
As she grew older, Ji’naeh developed a desire to become a shrine priest herself. Part of that desire comes from wanting to honor the better parts of her father's legacy, but another part comes from wanting to do things differently. She wants to become the kind of priest who is dependable, respectful, and present for the people who need guidance.
Ji’naeh does not want to erase her father's memory or pretend that he was perfect. Instead, she wants to take what he taught her, learn from his mistakes, and create a legacy of her own. To her, becoming a shrine priest means protecting the traditions she grew up with while becoming someone her family—and the people who visit her shrine—can depend on.
CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS

How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Ji’naeh treats the shrine grounds as a sacred and peaceful place. She makes sure to be very respectful, while also reminding herself that guests may not know every shrine custom. Around guests, she is polite, patient, and welcoming. She is willing to answer questions and guide visitors when they are unsure of what to do. With other staff, Ji’naeh tries to be cooperative and dependable, helping wherever she is needed rather than expecting others to do everything for her.
You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
Ji’naeh would remain calm rather than immediately becoming aggressive or angry. She would approach the guest and politely but firmly tell them that being on the roofs is dangerous and disrespectful to the shrine grounds. She would ask them to come down and explain why their behavior is inappropriate. If they refused to listen or continued causing trouble, Ji’naeh would report the situation to a senior staff member or someone with higher authority. She believes discipline should be handled respectfully, without creating unnecessary conflict.
Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
Ji’naeh wants to become a shrine priest because her father was a priest who ran his own shrine. Growing up, she watched him perform rituals, care for the shrine, and help the people who came to him. Although her father struggled with drinking and was not perfect, Ji’naeh still admired the good parts of his dedication to the shrine.
She wants to carry on the positive parts of his legacy while learning from his mistakes. Ji’naeh hopes to become someone that visitors can trust and rely on when they need guidance, comfort, or a place to find peace. She also wants to deepen her understanding of Shinto traditions and eventually create a legacy of her own rather than simply living in her father's shadow.

Ji’naeh's core values are respect, responsibility, compassion, family, patience, and perseverance. Her large family taught her the importance of looking after others and being dependable. Her father's struggles taught her that people can make mistakes and still have good qualities worth learning from. Because of this, Ji’naeh tries not to judge people immediately. She believes that respect should be given to others, traditions should be treated sincerely, and difficult situations should be handled with patience rather than anger.
