I am a college student. As this semester comes to an end, my next semester will be unusual. I will work my way around it to hopefully get classes done as a teacher. That being said, I am extremely active, and any attempts to become inactive will likely be to focus on college if I am falling behind, thus will result in an inactivity log being made.

What's your character's full name?:
"My name? How kind of you to ask. I am Séverin Roussemar. A pleasure to meet you. Mr. Roussemar will do."
What is your character's nationality?:
"I am Haitian-Spanish. Quite a mix, eh?"
What is your preferred subject to teach?:
"I prefer to teach Humanities; however, English also has a way of intertwining with Philosophy so I will be teaching English."
Describe your character:
Séverin Roussemar stands at 6'5", his tall, lean frame carrying the quiet strength of his Haitian-Spanish heritage. His deep brown skin, dark textured hair, and slightly pointed ears give him a distinct, otherworldly allure. Dressed in charcoal and deep crimson, he moves with composed precision, every gesture deliberate and calm. A trace of Maison Margiela’s “By the Fireplace” lingers around him. Warm, smoky, and reminiscent of something both familiar and lost.
Severin carries himself with an air of quiet confidence and thoughtfulness. He tends to be introspective, often taking the time to consider his words carefully before speaking, which gives him a presence that draws people in. His calm demeanor and strong, yet gentle, communication style make him both approachable and respected among his peers and students.
What makes him unique is not just his striking appearance but also his rich cultural background, which he embraces fully. Severin often integrates elements of his Haitian and Spanish heritage into his teaching style, using stories, music, and art from both cultures to engage his students in a deeper understanding of the world. His ability to fuse these diverse influences allows him to create a classroom atmosphere that is enriching and dynamic.
As for his plans for the future, Severin is passionate about educational reform. He aims to develop innovative programs that emphasize cultural understanding and inclusivity, ensuring that all students feel represented and valued. Ultimately, Severin hopes to positively impact the educational landscape, fostering a new generation that appreciates diversity and collaboration.
What is your character's outlook on students and co-workers?:
Roussemar is not the judging kind. He believes that everyone is equal and deserves a chance to learn and teach. It is an opportunity, a desire, a want to teach and learn. He applauds those who truly seek it out. Learning is something everyone deserves, to teach or to be taught. It is how we may grow.
What is your character's motivation for teaching?:
When Severin was a young boy in high school, he took a humanities class, which in most cases would be Philosophy. He loved the idea of reading texts like The Iliad, Plato's Republic, The Odyssey, and several Greek tragedies. They included their own poetic way of describing life, wants, needs, desires, and how to live. Philosophy to him is a series of asking yourself a question, but not using the internet to search for it completely, but to think on it, to debate on it. The whole point of philosophy, in a sense, is to refuse an apple of being handed information, and instead, eat the apple that encourages you to think for yourself.
Severin has always lived by this idea, this thought. It motivates him to become a teacher and encourages students to always think outside the box. Whether they think they know or not, nobody is done learning. Severin wishes to spread his findings, curiosity, and more to future students.
A student in class is struggling to understand the content, what would your character do?:
He would ask them if they needed help, and would assist with pleasure. It is a teacher's responsibility to help a student learn. Severine would go into more depth regarding the context, explaining terms and providing further information.
A student is continuously being disruptive in class, talking out of turn, and making jokes with classmates. What would your character do?:
Severin would calmly issue three verbal warnings. Assuring that while they may have come to mess around, there are students who still wish to learn and participate. If they continued after 3 verbal warnings, they would receive a detention, ensuring that there would be no need for a higher authority to get involved.
Provide at least 2 interactive class ideas related to your preferred subject:
Philosophical Debate - "What do you think?"
"I would host debate classes, giving students time to think about a question, then allowing them to take the floor with their debate. It should be related to the class and topic itself; however, any ad hominem (attacking the person directly and not their argument) will not be allowed. For example, the question could be:"
"What does it mean to learn?"
"Take time to consider it for yourself. What does it mean? Everyone has a different perspective, and well.. I want to explore and help their curious minds grow."
Debate is a one-of-a-kind class. It allows students to respectfully debate their beliefs, questions, evidence, and more. It promotes learning, which is why Severin would host a class as such. This also works for English texts.
Perspective View - "You see it differently, but what do others see?"
"I will also host a class that involves walking around the school and/or town, encouraging students to think about things in our lives from a different perspective than we have been accustomed to. If you see a beachball, how do others see that beachball? All you have to do is ask."
Nobody really takes a look at things from a different perspective. Perhaps that is why some have office jobs or work the same job for years on end. They only see what they know. But what if we were to give them another chance at looking at things differently? We may not be able to do that with current adults, but students can certainly grow to better the future.
