What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?
I am applying for Maiden
What is your motivation for applying?
Originally, I wanted to apply many months ago, the reason being that I enjoyed the time spent there and loved the roleplay interactions I had. The monastery is almost always active and endeavoring lore and I’d really like my character Nahla to stick to more people, especially future characters who could pass on memories of her. If She was Maiden then I believe I could accomplish that and inevitably have a lot of fun doing so. Nahla is my main character and has been for the majority of the time I’ve spent on SRP and while I consider Maiden as a very important role on the server, in my opinion being difficult to acquire- I am willing to put in much of my time and energy into this application because of the many opportunities it could bring to my roleplay experience such as learning new lore on SRP that I hadn’t known before and creating new friendships within the monastery. Another reason I took the obligation upon myself to apply would be my consideration that Nahla will be slightly boring to play now that I’ve received the adult role. For example, the other day I had decided to acquire the Minori Residence with a Personal Chef out of pure boredom. Lucky for me there was a student at plaza who decided to give me a book reading ‘Shi Pizza’. Obviously kidnapped the kid, brought him to my home and forced him to change his name to “Name ‘Munakata Chef’ because I’m evil. Anyways the kid got a free skin out of it and we made pizza, but that’s not the point! What I’m saying here is that it was the most ridiculous scenario but I somehow enjoyed it because I was that insanely bored, therefore I felt very humbled and realized I need to find something to do in SRP that doesn’t include making pizza.
What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
Firstly, what is this religion? Well Shintoism is an indigenous religious practice that originates in Japan and is believed to have begun during 500 BCE although it has never been easy to define and the word Shinto wasn’t even used much until the seventeenth century. Even so, Shinto has its own shrines, priests, gods and rituals which is everything you’d see in a religion but over 80% of Japanese people participate in Shintoism and only 3-4% identify themselves as believers in it. My current knowledge on Shinto is that Tori gates are known as one of the most recognisable symbols of Japan and Torii are thought to be sacred gateways in Shintoism. Many people visit shrines to pray to Kami, who are believed to be figures seen as divine spirits inhabiting all things in the natural world in the religion's culture. In my opinion, Shinto is a popular tradition throughout the country of Japan and because of its popular and repeated practices which are wholesome and good for the soul and mind. I believe it has become a religion to make sense of its origin politically although let’s not ignore the fact that there is worship of higher beings in Shinto. Let me go in more depth on what Kami are and the story of how they came to be since I’ve noticed that in SRP there are Kami involved with the roleplay inside the Shinto Monastery! So here’s the story, basically in the beginning there was nothing but chaos and over many many many years and eons the lighter particles of the chaos flew up and turned into heaven! Then…. The heavier ones fell and made EARTH which was pretty much just a muddy ocean at the time. Between heaven and earth there were three divine Kami that formed and then they were followed by 7 more generations. In the last generation there was a pair of two Kami named Izanagi and Izanami and this couple fell down to give form to the earth. They used a heavenly spear and stirred up the ocean to create an island so they could live there. They wanted to have babies so they made a pillar and walked around it in opposite directions and when they went on the other side Izanami greeted Izanagi and it made them have a baby. But the baby had no limbs or bones… Anyways I don’t want to explain this whole story but pretty much that was the start for lots of Kami on earth including “The Three Precious Children” which were Kami of the moon, Kami of the storms and Kami of the sun. Yokai are from Japanese mythology and are seen to be very different from kami, known as terrifying demons that are uniquely scary looking but not all Yokai are deadly. Now everything in the universe is seen to have a Kami, it’s said that there are to be eight million kami. Kami in general is something that is connected with everything in the universe and people can communicate with Kami by using prayer and sacrifices like food. Because of this there are super cool and respectable traditions that come with Shintoism and worshiping Kami like the practices of purification to get rid of pollution. There are two different kinds of spiritual pollution which are called Tsumi, meaning sin and Kegare which means uncleanness. To remove this pollution people, use a practice called Temizu where you wash your left hand with a super long spoon and then your right hand and then you pour water into your hand and use it to wash your mouth. There are many more ways to perform Harae which means purification and it’s practiced very often in Japan at places you might not even realize. This is the majority of what I know about Shintoism and I’d be very open to learning more about the culture in the future. I think learning about new religions and cultures is exciting and can be lovely when you learn of the stories in the lore especially when they are stories that have been passed down as long as Shinto’s has.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS
How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Nahla would be bubbly although in a very respectful manner, greeting guests as they enter the shrine if she were not busy, making it her duty to serve them and ask how their day has been as well as if they would like anything. She’d have a comforting smile towards newcomers and offer assistance when they ever had certain questions or concerns regarding the shrine or perhaps their personal life. While around shrine staff she’d be respectful as ever and support them during tough situations they could not face on their own, sticking up for the members of the monastery although never taking sides when it came to an even more difficult situation where inevitably what truly matters (she believes) is how they resolve the matter and grow from it all together. The majority of the time she spends within the monastery would build up to her striving to become a better person through and through. Nahla has struggled throughout her life with so many ups and downs. She has pushed through and learned truly how she can become better although just because you know something doesn’t mean you can snap your fingers and become it. Her goal within the monastery is to serve other’s needs and then learn how she can serve her own. Given that, Nahla’s behavior within the shrine ground’s as asked, will be impeccable.
You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
Nahla would politely approach the guest, her arms to her hips as she watched the person leap from roof to roof, tree to tree, bringing chaos and disrespect within the monastery. She would shake her head, clicking her tongue against the roof of her mouth three times as she held out her finger in front of the guest. Nahla would then politely mention that there are rules within the shrine and slowly list them off to the guest before her. If they continued to cause mischief around the shrine, to purposely push Nahla’s button’s then assuming she were annoyed would be an understatement. Finally, after the guest had crossed the line by continuing this behavior even after Nahla had warned them Multiple times (Let’s say four), She would draw an end to this disrespect although keep the peace as she respectfully asked the rude guest to leave the Monastery.
Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest?
Nahla hasn’t pushed herself to the limit and for good reason, there are people who care about her and who she cares for. As someone who has been perceived as protective throughout her life she surely knows how to play the role and is wise enough to understand that her downfall won’t just be her own, it could lead to many others being hurt, feeling disregarded or unimportant which is something she couldn’t stand to see. Nahla only want’s growth, she strives to be a better person everyday, strives to live fully and honestly. This girl work’s her ass off, not for herself, for other’s and will continue to do so. Often people misread Nahla and perceive her the way she presents herself on the outside but if they truly took the time to know her, candles would blow out in your mind, you’d see the pureness in her and the overwhelming kindness she already holds. Considerate and loving, that’s who she is, Consideration and love with no end. So why Maiden when she could be some fancy doctor and save lives or something? Shinto is something Nahla has studied over the years, finding it to be a very exciting and very real religion. She’d love to learn more and pursue her time so she may learn to be an outstanding individual from the religious practices.
