Backstory:
Miyuki Akiko Sato grew up in the city of Tokyo. Growing up, her childhood was mostly filled with happy memories. She lived with her parents and younger sister, Hana, in a nice apartment and they had everything they ever needed. Her father, Hiroshi who had a successful career as a businessman was able to provide a good a good life for Miyuki, Hana, and her mother Aiko who was a devoted home-maker.
However, when Miyuki was 8 years old, her life took a devastating turn as her father began taking drugs. Over time, Miyuki's father began spending less time with his family and more time getting high. His addiction eventually took a toll on their lives as they began to lose everything they had, their money, their home, and their once loving and caring father. He ended up leaving Miyuki, her sister and her mother to become a full-time addict. And Miyuki's mom, Aiko, was heartbroken and left to pick up the pieces but she had to stay strong to take care of Miyuki and Hana.
Miyuki's resilient spirit shone through, even in the midst of turmoil. She discovered comfort in the realm of fashion, a place where she could express her creativity and shape her own story. Despite having limited resources, she managed to become an expert at thrifting. She would tirelessly search through second-hand stores in order to find one-of-a-kind and fashionable items. This became her way of expressing herself and finding a temporary escape from the difficult realities of her life.
Miyuki started looking for attention from boys as she wanted to feel validated and accepted. She felt a deep longing to fill the emptiness caused by her father's absence, and she held onto the belief that gaining the approval of men could somehow help mend the pain from her past. As a result, she found herself caught in a cycle of seeking validation from others by changing who she was to meet their expectations. In doing so, she gradually lost touch with her true self.
Throughout this chaotic period, the one thing that remained consistent for her was her best friend, Jiwoo. They had developed a strong connection through the challenges they faced together, finding comfort in each other's presence and empathy. Jiwoo was also facing her own set of challenges, and their friendship became a source of support during difficult times.
Miyuki found solace in music, especially techno, as a way to escape from reality. The pulsating beats and immersive melodies gave her a brief break from her problems, letting her get lost on the dance floor.
Miyuki finds herself at a crossroads as she enters her teenage years. She will embark on a journey of finding herself, healing, and personal development. With the help of Jiwoo, as well as some new mentors and friends, she will slowly begin to understand that looking for validation from others will never truly satisfy the emptiness she feels inside. As she embarks on her journey towards self-acceptance, she will encounter both obstacles and victories. Along the way, she will discover how to appreciate her own value and seek joy that goes beyond the lingering effects of her past experiences.
