What's the title of your suggestion?: mutual intelligibility

What's your suggestion?:
from wikipedia:
"In linguistics, mutual intelligibility is a relationship between different but related language varieties in which speakers of the different varieties can readily understand each other without prior familiarity or special effort."

basically, two or more languages can be similar enough to an extent that communication between them is possible. and i feel like something like this deserves a place in SRP, where many people often RP as characters with foreign backgrounds. in my opinion it makes no sense how two characters from (for example) two former-yugoslav countries cannot communicate in their native tongue.

here is a list of languages which COULD be "grouped" together, from the list of available languages in the application form.
  • Swedish/Norwegian/Danish
  • Czech/Slovak(ian)
  • Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian
  • Dutch/Afrikaans
  • Italian/Corsican
  • Macedonian/Bulgarian
  • Hindi/Urdu (and Bhojpuri/Awadhi/Haryanvi which are dialects of Hindi, but seperate languages on SRP)
  • Persian/Tajik
  • Malaysian/Indonesian
  • Zulu/Xhosa

some honourable mentions which may be considered?
  • Spanish/Portuguese
  • Polish/Czech
  • + other filler Indian languages nobody has authorisation for but they still exist..

some of these are BIG questionmarks, and i didn't consider for asymmetry. take these with a grain of salt.

in my mind there are two ways this can be implemented
  • simply group languages together, done.
  • balancing cross-communication using obfuscation / slurred speech
    • could account for asymmetry here
    • assume your character knows norwegian or something for this example screenshot:

personally i don't mind how it is done.

How will this benefit the server and community?:
  • allows users to create more diverse character families
  • grants some use to less commonly applied for or used languages
  • it is more realistic

I can speak Portuguese, and I can assure you, it made learning Spanish 10 times easier (Some words are the same, sometimes their not). Plus, this IS needed with the amount of languages possible to learn in srp

As someone who's studied linguistics & translation, I really like the way you worded and planned out this suggestion. My only concern is its priority, since this would mainly serve to enhance realism while also requiring some testing & polishing, as well as checking its compatibility with the rest of the plugins (languages during calls, lang channel ranges, etc.).

That said, this definitely feels like something that would enhance immersion and, overall, just looks really neat. As long as it doesn’t interfere with other ongoing projects, it’s a solid +1 from me!

As a Polish person, I can easily understand most of the words a Czech person says, and understand some Russian, Ukrainian or Slovak words.
There is really no reason not to +1 this, as adding this WILL add more immersion into roleplay!

As someone who learned spanish before learning tagalog[These languages go hand in hand in a lot of ways], there's so many languages that tie into each other and can make it 100x's easier to learn a language when you already know another language.
