Eternity

In a room, alone;
No windows, no doors.
I sit, by myself,
On the cold, stone floor.
This torturous room, so somberly empty.
This unfathomable place of no exit nor entry.
Silently, I lie, curled in a ball,
That is, until I spot the crack in the wall.
A glimmer of hope, a light peering through the hole
I feel a rush of determination, straight from the soul.
Like a rabid animal, I claw at the hole.
My once useless nails, now donning a role.
One slash after another, I widen the gap
As it crumbles, like a bird, my wings start to flap
A newborn bird, I struggle and fall,
Crashing through the now-flimsy wall.
Wait- no- I know this ceiling, I’ve clawed at this wall.
Delirious, I whimper, beginning to bawl.
For I realize that I’ve been here before.
Again, I collapse on that same goddamn floor.
