"Why?"
Mykhail Tapinski is the youngest of his family, his mother, Eleonora, died giving birth to him. His family was distraught. His father, simply a miner and never around had to provide for the family of three sons alone now. The eldest brother, Borys, had to take care of the two younger ones as Andriy worked. Mykhail had a tough childhood, and sadly, had to skip out on school due to not having enough funds to allow him to go. Thus causing him to be much more dull than the rest of the people in his family, who had all gone to school. He grew up being called stupid by his friends, it made him upset and angery, but he learned that instead of taking it out on other kids like he had done many times already, he would train, become stronger, work out to release the anger inside of him. It wasn't until he turned 14 that something in his life changed.

He was enlisted into the military at 14 along side his 20 year old brother, Fedir, to help in the revolution against Russian oppression. Tapinski felt like he was more at home with people fighting for the same reason he was rather than in his home town. He was seperated from his brother as he was placed into the "Laughing Stocks" due to his limited knowledge of the world. Here he quickly befriended Sullivan, Derik, Fenrir and Koga.
When they were sent out into the field, Tapinski was placed as an assault soldier, meaning he would be one of the main attackers of the squadron. He was good at his job, pushing enemies back along side his comrades. However, he had seen Derik defending himself from a Russian soldier with a knife, so he quickly went over and put him down, saving Derik from the enemy. After that event, Tapinski would follow his friend, protecting him from any harm that were to come his way. He was struck by debris at one point, causing the massive bruise on his face that seems to be permanent. Derik patched him up and he quickly returned to battle. They worked well as a team, and Tapinski was grateful for Derik being there to return the favour.

After the revolution, he had returned home to his family. However, he saw no sign of Fedir. He had asked his father about Fedir, which lead to the news that he wish he would never have heard. Fedir's squad was wiped out, and the survivors, including Fedir, were taken as prisoners. Mykhail didn't know how to think. He was broken, hearing of his brothers incarceration.
Derik had showed up to his house one month in the winter asking him if he wanted to meet up with the other guys. Tapinski of course, accepted, and they met up with Sullivan, Fenrir and Koga. They all celebrated their victory. After Sullivan's disappearance, and Koga's search to find him, Tapinski swore on his life that he would protect Derik from anything. Derik was like a brother to him, and he would never want to or let harm come Derik's way.
