Chapter one: A little town

There was a little town in the countryside, a quiet but quaint little town. Acres of grass planes as far as the eye could see, and forest in full bloom with trees that looked like they could touch the clouds. In this little town, there was a farm a little up the main road that stretched through the town. There one that farm was a barn, a little farmhouse, a silo, and a cornfield so big, you would think it was part of a fantasy story.

On this little farm lived a boy called Percy B. Alrmon, son of Marie and Clide Alrmon. Percy was born with dirty blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, freckles on his cheeks, and the cutest little peppy face. Percy was a young perky boy with lots of respect but a cheeky attitude when he felt playful. He respected his dad and love his mom dearly. Percy was nothing short of a modern-day perfect poster boy. He would always refer to his mom as "mum". He would always refer to his dad with the utmost respect, always calling him "father" instead of dad. He was top of his class, physically fit, well mannered, and always in a good mood.

Percy was known all around this quiet little town as a troublemaker, but he was loved for it nonetheless. He would run errands for his mom in town every day after school, whether it was picking up groceries or cleaning the entire house, or helping out with the farm, he did it without a question or attitude. Whenever Percy would run from school to the nearby little shop, he would always be met with a kind "g' day Percy, how are ya" from the owner Mr. Happels. Sometimes during the weekends, Percy would work at Mr. Happels's shop to earn some allowance that he could spend on candy so that he could share it with the other kids.

During school, Percy would always spend the lunch break playing with the other boys in the schoolyard. They would play games like tag, football, hide n seek and so many more. During the shorted breaks though, Percy would spend all his time with a girl named Nancy Dufflesberg. Percy and Nancy were best of friends and rarely could you find Percy without Nancy somewhere nearby. Those two were inseparable, it was like they were glued together.

As perfect as life may sound for Percy, it all wasn't sunshine and rainbows. Percy got bully for hanging out with Nancy, the older boys would call him "girly" and pick on him at every chance they got. Percy paid it little mind most of the time, that was if they didn't mention Nancy. Every time they even began to insult Nancy, Percy would launch at them, of course, he would still lose and end up being beaten up. Nancy would always end up having to take care of Percy. But, as summers passed, they grew up and over time.

Chapter 2: Kids all over again

We're no longer in the quiet little countryside town, we're in the middle of a cornfield outside a major city. Two people laying on a blanket under the night sky. It's funny how time changes people and here we have Percy and Nancy, holding hands, looking at the stars, and dreaming away like they didn't have a care in the world. Percy and Nancy had moved away into the dorms of Saint Monica University in New Orleans, Percy was studying economics with a minor in psychology to give him a leg up in business negotiation. Nancy was studying biology and physics with a minor in chemistry to become a scientist.

You may think that Percy and Nancy were childhood sweethearts but that wasn't the case. They were best of friends, but in reality, Percy had feelings for Nancy but he hadn't told for. It started with one bad day, the words Nancy said to him back then were blurry but the feeling of warmth stayed. He knew he was in love with Nancy but he also knew he could never be with her. It wasn't that he doubted himself or Nancy had a boyfriend, no it was a lot simpler than that, Nancy wasn't into boys.

It was never a question of feelings, rather it was a question of preference, and Nancy simply liked girls. Percy would recall what he would refer to as his worse night every once in a will. It was the end of high school, they were in a gym with hundreds of students, drunk, stupid, and loud students. Music was blaring filled the room as the lights and disco ball set the atmosphere. Percy was sitting in a classroom with his friends and Nancy, a bit away from the party. They were all heavily intoxicated but Percy remembers the shattering feeling in his heart as he looked across the room and saw Nancy have a first kiss with Lissie T. Harmen.

From that day, Percy knew he would never be able to tell Nancy how he felt and became distant in hopes that his feelings would go away. Percy was still young and stupid back then and he still remembers the time he fought with Nancy. Glasses and bottles flying through the air, clothes were thrown all about the floor, the tv haven been broken. He would always look around this scene, seeing himself by the couch yelling and Nancy throwing his clothes at him. She had confronted him about the way he acted and how he had been distant, bringing him random girls nearly every night but never scoring. Nancy had reached a breaking point and they fought.

Percy spent the first two years of college doing everything he could to make it up to Nancy, and with time and healing, their relationship regrew. It was their final year and it was nearly over. Percy held feelings in his heart still and was unsure how to face Nancy most of the time. He wanted to tell her but didn't want their friendship to end. So he invited her out to spend a night together as they had as kids, looking at the stars, thinking about the past, and dreaming about the future. More than ever, Percy was conflicted about what to do and where his life was going, but he held his head high and kept dreaming.

Chapter 3: A cornfield in the past

Percy's feet were moving, but his mind was blank and he wasn't sure what was happening. He was wearing his graduation gown and cap, walking onto a stage to receive his diploma. His hand would tighten around the paper as the mand holding it would give him a stern but proud look. The world slowed down as he spun around seeing all his teachers stand up from their chairs and clap with a wide smile on their faces. He would scan the crowd as his eyes fell onto Nancy who was with her family. They were standing right next to Percy's family.

As he made his way to the front of the podium, he could hear the deen of the college refer to him as "Valedictorian". With the paper in his left hand, the sun shining into his eyes, and a gentle breeze blowing over him, he would wrap his right hand around the microphone. At first, no words would come to mind and he just stood there. As he opened his mouth once more and the words just flew out, he made a speech about graduation, fighting, struggling, and overcoming trials. At the end of the speech, his mind would go blank as the words left his mouth "Nancy Dufflesberg, I am in love with you".

The crowd went silent as Percy stood upright and walked off stage. Nancy would look up at Percy, the boy who was there for her throughout her life, and as the quiet realization of it all hit Nancy, all she could do was tear up. Not because it hurt or she felt guilty for not knowing, but because she remembered a distant memory from when they were kids. A cornfield back in their hometown at sundown. Percy and Nancy were sitting on a blanket, holding hands as Percy asked her.

"Would you stay with me even if I act stupid and say hurtful things?" She remembers nodding and holding his hand so tightly. In that moment it wasn't about Percy trying to confess to Nancy, no it was about Percy finding freedom from his own feelings. Long after their graduation, they were still together. Living in a small two-bedroom apartment. On the day that they moved in, their landlord asked Percy if they were lovers, he simply said, "I'm in love with a lesbian" and so he was. She wasn't a dime a dozen, some ordinary girl, no to him, she was Nancy Dufflesberg, the girl next door. It was the start of a story, a story about a lovely gal, and a foolish boy who was head over heels in love with her.
