What's the title of your suggestion?: Repealing the classroom changes.
What's your suggestion?:
I have the odd feeling this is going to go sour, but oh well.
The issue
So as some of you may be aware, ALL classrooms besides culinary have been reset to a default state, which if you haven't, you can dm me at #benspudgydad on Discord, as I can't upload images for some reason. There are a multitude of reasons why this act should be repealed, so allow me to say a few. The reason why this was put in place is because it was seen as an "issue" that some classes feel like apartments, and this act brought into effect the immediate enforcement of these guidelines (which weren't available to faculty before this).
1: These classroom designs that are newly made fail to represent any subjects and are rather boring and unrealistic; a majority of classrooms do not have posters in the same place or have the same type of seating, and a majority of schools have different types of seating arrangements and walls. To add on to this, the current idea that is created from the current classes is one of boredom and a sense of a dystopia where everything is a copy and paste. That is NOT what all of us joined for, nor what we remember about classes. This leads on perfectly to my second point.
2: These classes that were here before this were something of history; you didn't know how many students sat where you sat or who was educated here. It ruins the history of the server and just completely changes the first impression given to newer players, making them think that the school is cold, unwelcoming and harsh.
3: This was an update that wasn't wanted by the recipients (faculty AND students), meaning that it was chosen by a minority that, from what I heard, isn't even SLT, meaning that it was most likely only ONE or TWO people making the decision to erase this history, like erasing a mistake on a piece of paper. In reality what faculty wanted was an EASY way to edit classes that don't fit their subject.
4: This update completely ruins the vibe of the school itself and just makes it feel too realistic to newer players, which is not what we want, as they are more likely to leave thinking that this is the equivalent of a real school with strict and harsh rules with little to no enjoyment. Now what I'm saying is that the classroom design isn't the only thing that may draw away greenies, as there are many other factors, but it is ONE.
So as I've just explained four points, let me just add on something else. In a survey, I asked 8 people in faculty yesterday about their opinion on the recent update; here are the results:
4/8 STRONGLY disagree with the update and believe that it should be repealed.
2/8 Disagree but can learn to cope/believe that if the ToS of alterations to builds should be lightened
2/8 Said they didn't agree but felt like it didn't affect them.
To add on to this, I asked four people in the student base for their opinion, and compared to faculty, all four said that this new update should be repealed/reconsidered.
I am not saying I am representing these people, as everyone has a different opinion on the topic, but these statistics are something you should take into consideration.
A way to fix this
Now what I propose is a simple repeal to how classes were originally and make it so at the rank of QP/QT+, a faculty member may edit their class every 3 months, and their faction lead must inform them if there's anything wrong about it. With regards to guidelines, they should be severely lessened so that you can edit walls, chairs and tables (so you don't have to use the models), and to finish it off, the rule of "Your design must be realistic for a school" should be completely removed or reworded so that it says this: "Your build must follow the SRP build style and should relate to your subject." With regard to the rules listed above, I'll list alternates here:
Walls - You are only allowed to add posters/different gradients to the walls (THEY MUST BE REALISTIC), and if you add posters, they must relate to your subject.
Chairs/tables – You must use a mix of trapdoors, slabs, stairs and signs to make chairs and tables. These must be a mangrove, dark oak, or oak shade.
Leaves – May only contain a minority of greens in the build, and it must be dotted around and not too consistent.
"Your build must be a class, not an apartment" – Replaced with: "Your build must resemble a class but have aspects of life and energy to it to engage students."
Every other guideline listed (if staff sees fit, they can post the guidelines underneath this post) is fine in my personal opinion.
A small disclaimer. I do agree with the idea that classes are not apartments and shouldn't look like them, but in my opinion, they should at least have the liberty of looking good and full of life and lived in. Plus, I agree with the idea that anything like sofas (couches if you are American) shouldn't be in a class build.
Yes I am aware that the old guidelines weren't inforced, and what I mean by repeal is return to those ways of classroom editing.
(Also if you were a builder who built this, I am not saying your build isn't good it EATS!! SO HARD but.. Its more of a maths class then anything else.. Sorry if I offended you here)
I'm not expecting to see that much change from this thread, as it's only a thread. But what I hope comes out of this is a possible change or at least a refund for the money that may be lost.
This is not a jab at staff or whoever made this but its just something that in my opinion and others could be changed if possible.
I'm most likely missing a few points but shrug.
Thank you DEEPLY for reading!!!
Just a slight add-on on how this update could be repealed:
1: A refund to the players who lost things
2: A poll created where faculty can choose to repeal the update
3: A complete repeal.
How will this benefit the server and community?:
This would benefit the server by giving it more life and a more friendly-like aspect to the community and make it easier for newer players to feel safe. Plus it'd restore the idea of creativity and subject specification in the faction.
