Backstory:
Rhyland was born in the city of Maralal, in Kenya, where he grew up with his father. As his mother died during labour due to poor healthcare in the city at the time. Rhyland lived in a small hut made out of dirt, sticks, and many other things that him and his father could find. After living in Maralal for 7 years, a Cholera epidemic swept Kenya, forcing them to flee by plane, after many other countries refusing them entrance in fear of spreading the Cholera epidemic, the Japanese government decided to let them in. Although they were left on the streets, Japanese culture still fascinated the two., regularly visiting the Shinto Temple every week. When Rhyland's father died when he was 14, the Monks at the temple took him in, shaving his hair off, not caring about the colour of his skin, after living with the Monks for 5 years, with working a part-time job at a cafe, Rhyland moved to Karakura where he lives in his apartment and regularly attends Karakura High.
How Rhyland came to love Boxing: When Rhyland lived at the temple, he had one of the monks tell him about relieving his anger towards the death of his father in some way. This made Rhyland think, after searching for an answer to what the monk had told him, he met a young boy, around 13, the boy approached him, asking if he wanted to join a Boxing club. That's when it hit him, Rhyland knew he couldn't pursue boxing before he had finished training with the Monks, so Rhyland trained with the monks until, he became 19, He had mastered the style of the Monkey. He then moved to Karakura, ditching the Shinto Arts, doing Boxing whenever he can at any time.
