For you to use or discard.
Yes I know that most people do Romance RP - this is not directly to those that do or don't.
Halt.
Rules first.
1: No judging others opinions - Meaning if someone goes 'omg I hate/love romance relationships icly' then don't start going all crusader on them to crucify them. Mm okay - play nice kiddies.
2: SRP Rules apply here - don't be bad.
Starting off with advice - skip down to the opinion part if you wish. - Again you don't have to take anything I say seriously. :) This is personally just wanting to help!
How can a Romance Relationship break a character?
"Sometimes - relationships are doomed from the start, or they just fall apart."
If you get into a bad relationship (This includes non-abusive relationship) but the character's don't fit - or the other is hardly on when the other is on - that can break a character or simply make the character feeling 'useless without there significant other' which can lead to a IC breakup and you never touching that character again - or worse stay in the IC relationship and have a kazillion other characters.
Here's some things that help with a relationship
Advice
* Do not get someone with the exact same personality as you - this can lead to you too being so alike that you guys -may- argue all the time, I'm not saying you CAN'T try this and it not end up working out - it's just a most likely scenario
* Do not get a direct opposite - this is a scenario where you want someone who is different yet similiar to you - you don't want to argue over who is your favorite football team all the time do you? Didn't think so.
However like I said before - just because I say this has a likely outcome of not working - doesn't mean it WON'T.
* Do not get with someone that has a -very- different timezone (IE it's 12 at night for you - you need sleep and they just log in and want to RP and are never available any other time)
* There is also the bad-side which is self-explanatory.

How can they fix a character?
"However, sometimes they can mend the broken ones, and bring warmth and joy."
Sometimes just knowing you have someone there is comforting, or having someone you can talk to and hold - someone you can cherish can fix a character, in the end most of us (Not all) want to feel some form of praise and love - and for some this is in a relationship, this can help a character who may suffer from loneliness - know they are not alone, and that there is a special someone waiting for them at home - albeit a friend, a crush, a lover, a wife, a husband, spouse, fianceé - etc you get the point.
Advice
I'm sorry for sounding like Yoda a bit.
"There is only do - or do not, there is no try."
* Do get someone that is supportive of you -and you them, don't choose a character that you don't feel connected too, take your time don't rush straight to a relationship - build a friendship and then start teetering on the edge of a relationship. If you rush straight on ahead it can make the relationship falter - or fall weak - that being said don't make it go too slow either. Don't make it take a month to get into a good relationship and don't just start dating after one hour of knowing a character.
Some times that I've known to work and end in long-term
(Not from Personal - but rather quoted)
- Take a OOC week to teeter around romance and friendship, the first three days take to get to know the other and how they work, on the fourth day start going around the 'possible' relationship
- On the second week - start getting closer, you'll probably be in a relationship icly by then don't rush straight to marriage either with this.
- Third-Fourth week, perhaps mention the idea of marriage -IF- you feel the relationship is ready - make sure the feelings is same on the other half as well.
- Yeah I know, I am saying 'Omg take actual time to get into a relationship and not gangrp all day?!' - Yes, Yes I am. If you're really wanting to dedicate to building a relationship. Do it. Just DO IT! DO IT NOW! Hehe.
* Consult the person OOCly as well - see if they're interested and if the feelings mutual of a possible connection between the characters - don't just go in icly 'oh your cute lets date' pick wisely. Pick only what you see is - your characters ideal type. Consult the person OOCly on behaviorisms of the character if so be it.
* Also a tip with the whole 'omg were fighting'
Don't break off a relationship over one fight - seriously unless y'all are fighting everyday, all day, it might just be someone in a pissy mood.
Seriously.
Not kidding.
However - do not plan everything out - break the rules once in awhile, I'm mostly stating this to kickoff the relationship at a good start - planning the relationship CAN make it boring, that's why you gotta be quirky :)
Opinion (Please make your own as well! I want to hear your thoughts/opinions!)
"What is your thoughts on Romance Roleplay?"
As someone who does it a lot - I like Romance RP, even though most of my characters relationships don't work out - I'ma try harder the next time! I'm also going to try and take my own advice and talk with the person oocly - instead of just saying 'MINE!' and running off with the person while they're clawing at the ground trying to get away-
I mean ahem.
Totally strolling beside me.
Anyway - Romance Roleplay to me is much like how Gangrpers love GangRp, I like how comforting it can be and it helps me develop and grow a attachment to characters and understand how there feeling - as a empath romance is like comfort food...
Ah shit I'm hungry now..
Note.
my character is considered someone you can go to for Relationship advice.
