Mitsuru Shirafuji, born 3rd of March 200X to Youzou and Kagome Shirafuji, was raised primarily by her mother and maternal grandparents in a family-owned handcrafted accessory store in Hikone, Shirafuji. At the age of 13, she and her mother moved to Karakura to join her father, who had found work in a publishing house.

It was somewhere after the move that her relationship with her mother began to strain, as Mitsuru tended to attack her mother's conservative values, and Kagome smothering her daughter. Kagome returned to Hikone just before her daughter was accepted into Karakura High School.
