I think there are roleplay opportunities as a spider whitelist!
As someone who roleplays as a snail OFTEN, and a lover of the "unused" whitelists such as fish, there is a lot you can do with both animals!! You can create lots of comical roleplay moments, as well as spiders can and are pets irl who can and do have personalities! I would love to see more insect / arachnida related whitelists !
Spiders have fully developed personalities in the real world, and they actually are suggested to have cognitive thinking, unlike snails who cannot be trained and do not ... think much LOL! which creates a lot more opportunities. There are over 1,600 species of spider in japan alone! They are intelligent creatures and often entirely misunderstood. Spiders, specifically jumping spiders, can also be trained in the real world!
I would DEFINITELY purchase this whitelist if it were a thing, even if its unconventional. I also know others who would enjoy it! I think the depth of spiders being added would be fun and enjoyable for some players. I totally understand the argument of unused whitelists, but as a person who very often plays these "unused" whitelists, I enjoy them so much! And I honestly don't think this will go entirely unused.
I believe a lot of the denial around it comes from arachnophobia, which is unfortunate.
Speaking of, onto the negative aspects.
Arachnophobia is one of the most common phobias there is, and for some people, that includes in video games. Some people may opt out of playing to avoid the spiders which IS A MASSIVE PROBLEM. My suggested fix is an arachnophobia setting, as the spider model can be removed through texture packs, I believe this would be a good way for players who have this phobia to opt out of seeing spiders in game! They would still see the nametag, know the person exists, but not see the spider model itself. They could also state in /looc that they do not want to rp with a spider whitelist, boundaries are typically 100% accepted by other players in game and no one is forced to interact with anyone they don't want to. Plus misusing a whitelist and breaking someones boundaries is against the rules and will get it taken away from bad / disrespectful players.
roleplay opportunities.
Theres only so much you can do as a spider, but that sort of applies to most animals! In the real world, many birds in the whitelist cannot be kept as pets or should not be kept as pets as they are endangered! but there are still plenty of people who participate in this sort of roleplay and create opportunities such as that. Which doesn't make it a bad thing at all, but also adds onto my point of pet spiders. As a spider, you could also be strictly inhabiting the forest or something like that! I know some people may avoid these areas because of the spiders, and fear of being "bitten", but animals cannot attack people without motive and combat rules still apply to animal whitelists! This being said, people are also meant to FearRP bears, and they don't which is against the rules, so the argument about spiders (and bears, bears aren't necessarily aggressive they're just animals that humans shouldn't mess with due to unpredictability!) being aggressive by default wouldn't apply here either. As well as spiders are NOT aggressive creatures ! and you would instead opt into the FearRP around them if your character fears spiders.
I am totally understanding that this may likely be denied considering the past suggestions, but now with the size changing settings of 1.21.1, as well as being able to "turn off" spider models using resource packs, I would love a new unconventional animal whitelist.
It does seem many people will be against this, however. As much as I'd love a spider whitelist, unfortunately since they are one of the most feared and misunderstood creatures, as well as they may be misused, I don't see it being added. (though i'm 100% supportive of this and hoping!) I think the server has a bit more growing to do in terms of commands (because resource packs would be a bit difficult with this), or even Mojang adding back the arachnophobia setting, before this could be added.
but i love the suggestion and hope in the future we can get spiders. This comes from the perspective of someone who is really into animal sciences, as well, and i understand most people will not view it from that perspective!
