The Great "Pair Of Scissor" Debate

So your logic is because you have TWO of something its a PAIR, because of course that makes sense- But ONE set of scissors is called a pair, and if you were to swap those shoes for two sets of scissors then you could still say A PAIR- But one set of scissors is called a pair- Thus a pair of a pair of scissors MAKES SENSE
No it is technically grammatically correct, it just sounds weird but when saying it you would still be technically saying something which is correct just simply using a different way of saying it which is not as commonly used.

There is a pair. The pair is the TWO BLADES and those TWO BLADES are a pair which are also called a scissor. Putting two of them together makes it a pair, that pair being called A pair of scissors since one scissor is one blade.

Two blades = a pair,
One scissor = one item which means not a pair
The scissor may consist of a pair of something but in reality the scissor is only really one thing, a pair is two of an item, which you could say two scissors is a pair not one scissor being a pair!
So If scissors is just two blades- Two katanas next to eachother are scissors?
No because when you ask for a "A pair of scissors" no one questions it as it the correct way to say it.

Yeah you got a point, but it's something that would be declared "worded incorrectly". I think one thing we should say is that- The English (America's) language is dumb and it makes no sense. What I mean by that is there are things that you think should be the same but they aren't and that's where this comes in. Scissors is one of those weird words.

What does scissors mean? Scissors is a plural noun. Scissors are two handheld blades fastened together that are used for cutting things. Scissors are usually referred to in the plural or as a pair of scissors.
