Trouble getting into the server

I am completely new to this, and have never even played minecraft on pc before. I have no idea why I can't get onto the server. I have managed to find the server address and name, so I think my problem is that I don't know what to put for the port. If anyone knows that it would be very helpful.

If you're playing on bedrock (Phone, Xbox, Nintendo, etc) You wont be able to connect as the server is Java Edition only.

On java edition there isn't a port, you simply just enter the IP address and connect.

I'm playing on pc. I'm not sure how to tell if it's java or bedrock though. Does the fact that it requires a port mean that it's bedrock?

If there’s a port for the server your trying to add, it means your on bedrock yes.

Java edition will explicitly state that it is java edition when on the home screen
