Umeko Ota was born in Chiba, Japan on October 2nd, 2000 at 4:20 AM. She was born with proportions of 19 inches and 7 ½ pounds, and her physical development would move fairly quickly. Umeko grew up in a middle-class home in Chiba, Japan in her toddler years. Her Father, Daichi Ota, worked as a Mechanical Engineer and her Mother, Ichika Ota, was a college student getting a double-major in Mathematics and Education. Ichika, her mother, was abused emotionally, physically, and sexually by Daichi, her father. On April 18th, 2002 her younger sister, Misa Ota, was born. A year later, her father left the family home leaving Ichika, Ume, and Misa without money. Ichika graduated and got a job as a Mathematics teacher at Meisei High School. The family could no longer afford their middle-class home, so they moved into a small apartment near the high school. Ume developed a passion for dancing while watching street performers in Tokyo. Her mother began a part-time job to pay for Ume to attend a dance organization. Ume began Chiba Shiritsu Todorokicho Elementary School and was a steady B student. When her sister began school, she was a straight A-student; this made Ume jealous of her accomplishments. Ume kept pushing herself in the athletic department, which caused her to develop clinical anxiety. When Ume was around the age of eight years old, her mother began teaching her Shintoism as a coping mechanism. Ume rejected the religion of Shintoism in the beginning and began photography as an outlet for her anxiety. Ume moved to secondary school at Chiba Shiritsu Tsubakimori Junior High School. While Ume was in secondary school, her mother met a man named Longwei Yang. Ume didn’t approve of her relationship with Longwei, because she felt like he was invading their happy family of three. A few months later, her mother married Longwei Yang, which made Ume detach from family activities. Ume put a great deal of effort into her dancing career, and she made it to Nationals in her junior division. Unfortunately during dance practice, her dance partner dropped her, injuring her to where she couldn't compete in Nationals. This incident scarred her causing her anxiety to spike out of control. One night, Ume tied bricks to her feet and jumped into the Tokyo Bay. Luckily, a man who was working on the docks saw Ume and jumped in to save her. Ume continued her life attempting to reach Nationals again, and she began making better grades in school. Her mother enjoyed the wilderness, so one day she went on a hike to Mount Saga. During that hike, she was brutally murdered, which caused the family to sulk in grief. In Ume’s case, it was worse, Ume developed a disorder called Complicated Grief Disorder. Complicated Grief Disorder caused Ume to disassociate death with her mother, and she began covering the pain that she felt. Ume wanted to have a piece of her mother with her, so she decided to begin practicing Shinto rituals. Longwei decides it’s safer to move Ume and Misa to Karakura, Japan, therefore he finds a job as a Neuroscience Professor at Karakura College where Misa and Ume attend college.
