Yaeko was born in South Korea. With both a loving father and mother, Yaeko lived what could be seen as a dream life. With an older brother who loved her dearly, and many friends. She always carried herself with a sense of determination and strength. With her father in the army and her mom working, she and her brother depended on each other to grow. Until her father passed away while deployed when she was only 10 years old, leaving her and her older brother, Akashi, to be raised by their mother, Arka.
The death of her father was the first significant event that greatly impacted Yaeko's life. It was a sudden and tragic loss that left her and her family devastated. Her father being the last to cut her hair, she never touched it again. In their grief, Yaeko’s older brother, Akashi, turned to drugs and alcohol as a way to cope with their father’s death. This created a rift between Akashi and the rest of their family, with their mother struggling to deal with her son's addiction. Yaeko has a close relationship with her mother, but it has not always been easy. When Arka remarried a woman, Yaeko struggled to accept her mother's new marriage. Yaeko, being forced to grow up quickly since her father's death, went more into her mind, being less and less social and only spending more of her time inside. When turning 14, Yaeko and Akashi were sent to Karakura in Japan to go to school. Her older brother got more involved in his crimes, only ever contacting Yaeko when he needed money or a place to crash. Yaeko began to build her own life, going to therapy and helping better herself. She made multiple friends and was content with her life. For remembrance of her dad, Yaeko had a phoenix tattooed on her right leg. A phoenix was her father's favorite mythical creature, and her grandmother said that through death her father was reborn as a phoenix.
