Backstory

Zijia was born to Jiahao Yi and Xiaoting Zhao in Shenzhen, China. Shenzhen is one of the billionaire capitals of the world, just north of Hong Kong. She grew up with her older brother Zhi, who was always looking out for her. Her father Jiahao was a higher up in the Triads, one of the biggest organized crime groups in all of China. He, of course, did not tell his children of his ranking, and instead let them believe that he worked in the “tech industry.” Her mother Xiaoting was a well known pianist.
Zijia seemed to have the perfect life. She attended a prestigious boarding school in Hong Kong. On the weekends she would go home to Shenzhen. Zijia loved to go to art museums and her mom would teach her how to play the piano. This led her into finding her love for playing musical instruments. Zijia then learned the guitar and violin. She would go out with her friends and never have a dull moment. When her father deemed her old enough to take on a family secret, she was told of his status in the Triads. Zijia didn’t really care. It didn’t change anything for her. But after learning this information, her father insisted on teaching her kung fu moves, as being in the crime world he knew how important it was to be able to defend yourself. He wanted his children to be prepared for what could come - when he couldn’t be there to protect them anymore. And that day did come.
Jiahao’s dirty work finally caught up to him, and cost him and his wife Xiaoting their lives. Zijia never found out exactly what happened. Her older brother Zhi knew, but refused to tell her. Instead, he made arrangements for Zijia to get out of China immediately. The town he settled on? Karakura, Japan.
