Here; if this is insufferable to read through (for me, it is. the format's all messed up) There is a less-fancy version on google documents I can DM to you! :D

FINALLY, let's get into the actual activity. What do I do on the server?
I am an avid-detail roleplayer, and a psychology major in real life! This combo makes for a lot of intricate roleplays that I engage in. My roleplay has changed across the years from surface level interactions into my current roleplay style that focuses a lot on long-term results. I take into account every aspect of my characters physically or mentally and take them with the seriousness it deserves. I focus on Lore in the server, alongside dynamics between characters.
From time to time, I do engage in silly roleplay! Afterall, it's what really makes up the serious moments. I roleplay at a slower pace than most, as I put a lot of thought into the actions of my characters, however I know when to speed up and shorten my actions to match the pace of the current interaction as well. It took a lot, but I believe I reached a balance.

What is your motivation for applying?
In the recent months, shrine has quickly become my favorite faction to bother. . (or morelike, visit on a near-daily basis.) Everyone is so welcoming, and it saddens me that this is such an underrated faction. AS SUCH!! I want to apply to become part of it. However often the shrine is empty or otherwise, it is so full of interesting roleplay opportunities pertaining to the more religious-traditional values of Japan. As it goes, I do wish to bring more appreciation to the shrine as a faction. A lot of my good-friends either are deeply fond of the shrine, or are part of it and have been for ages! This alone gives me a lot of motivation and want to apply.
TO ADD ON, the server feels a little too westernized. Even when it comes to those regular to the shrine, I wish to spread even more of the core values of Japanese culture, religion, and community! I deeply enjoy researching of things aswell. Plus, I am a big fan of all the possible collaborations that shrine can have with different factions around the server, and wish to bring them forth!! That said, lastly, I would love to bring forward the concept of an elderly woman working as a maiden in such a chaotic town. Having already lived her life in full in service of the kami, coming here in modern Karakura, and having her old views challenges, maybe making a fuss about it! It's a very light-hearted concept that has a lot of opportunities to break tensions, or create them! Maybe even share her wisdom.
What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?
TO BEBIN WITH, Yes I would love to learn more about Shintoism.
Now, to answer the question ..
Shintoism - Or Shinto - means 'The way of the gods' or, more like, the way of the kami. It is the base-religion in Japan. Rather than focusing on a singular kami (or god) or a single anything, it focuses on creating harmony with nature, spirits, and maintaining purity. It is also a religion that is intertwined with Buddhism, existing and influencing one another in history.
The Shinto religion believes that nature is sacred, it being alive with spiritual presence. It believes in values of purity and ritual, one of the examples of such is the cleansing process prior to entering holy grounds like the Monastery.
There are a few elements to worship in the Shinto Religion, one of such being that prayer often (and almost mainly) takes time at the Shrine. Shrines ALWAYS have a Torii Gate - Which marks the point of holy grounds. Visitors must bow at it properly, and never pass from the middle as that is reserved for spirits to pass through. At the mention of spirits, there is an emphasis on them and the spiritual plain. While tales vary, there is a solid sense of strongest to weakest entities / spiritual beings.
Going something similar to :
Kami -> Guardian Kami -> Amatersasu -> Kitsune, Oni, Kappa, etc.
There is also a number of rituals that take place in the religion. The simplest, and done with each entry of the shrine, is the cleansing ritual. Another example might be the Purification Ritual. Which, technically, cleansing is a part off. There is also Misogi, a more intense purification ritual hat includes standing under a waterfall or bathing in cold water, washing in rivers (Onsen for example in Karakura.).
These are somewhat the basics of the Shinto Religion so to say. I am open to learn more and research into the religion itself.
Now, to branch into Karakura itself,,

Now, to branch into Karakura itself,,
There are many tasks that are done by shrine in Karakura itself. Such as;
Tarot reading,
Tea servings,
feeding the Koi fish,
educating the public via collaborations with different factions,
selling Omamoris, Ofudans, and other goods in the shrine!
They can also offer cleansings, purification rituals, and the such when it comes to spirits and cleansing the evil out. Events that are hosted by the shrine (since, they don't only DO things .. but also host them!) are :
The Kagura festival,
weddings, funerals,
tea-ceremonies, and cleansings' of spaces.
FINALLY, some trivia about the Karakura shrine ! Which can slightly differ from real life, however, this is likely (and probably) due to the fact this is a Japanese server with a very western audience. First, the roles within the shrine in the order of highest to 'lowest' :
Shrine Lead; Mitsu
Leader of Priests; Guji
Lead of Maidens; Naishoten
Priests
Maidens
Secondly, the rules currently present in the Karakura Shrine
Cleansing at the entrance of the shrine.
Bowing at the Torii gate.
No climbing on any structures within the shrine, it is disrespectful.
No fighting.
No yelling.
No cursing on holy grounds.
No masks.

Backstory:
This is told from Sutaa's perspective and recollections. Should it appear jumpy, or odd, that is the reason.
" What a lousy thing .. "
The starless sky darkened further as Sutaa gazed towards it. A tiny frame that flinched slightly with each harsh word thrown at her from her tutors. Of course, music is nothing but a distraction. Just like sports, dance, education in it of itself .. many things are distractions from her religion and faith. Memories of every creative new insult hurled her way for daring to branch out. What a shame it was. She knew it was never the faith's fault, but her family. A twelve year-old who has heard nothing but insults ends up a rather mature one. . in the sense of either deflection or ignoring it. Feeding it to her developing subconscious.
Truthfully, Sutaa was a meek girl. Nothing too notable about her, not even her last name. Her family tried to be graceful.. but illness often ran in their blood. Weaknesses of various kinds tainting the blood. Of course, Sutaa had to be the lucky girl to lose her eye to one of those illnesses. Such that she never really recalled. All she knew is that her other eye is not where it should be. . and that was fine .. mostly. Fine when she was in her bedroom, alone with herself and her peace. Fine when she is studying outside of view. Fine when she generally existed without humans near her. They were as bothersome as her family.
The family itself was .. odd. Striving to make a name for themselves, but failing. They tried to educate, got a law-suit. They tried to join the force, got fired. They even tried to work as cleaning agents, tailoring, all of which ended up in an epic fail. You might wonder why even?? How odd is it that they had failed so many things? Well, it is because the family is a fraud. Taking the long, generational run of building wealth and reputation were not their thing. Rather, they opted to pull strings, cheat and lie their way into whichever next field they cursed with their presence.
A truly, kind and normal family for young Sutaa I am sure.
Sutaa herself, growing in such an environment, was no stranger to following in her family's footsteps. Lying and deceiving those around her to gain something, anything. Being meek was only a disguise for the intelligence she has housed within her mind. Even when the family had blindly began to believe themselves 'cursed', and instead directed their attention to faith instead in hopes that enough praying and pleading (with no effort of their own, mind you.. ) would make a change. So much so they had pulled children out of education (under the disguise of 'homeschooling them') to teach them the basis of the Shinto religion.
Charming, I'm sure ..
Our little Sutaa didn't really .. change. She grew up as such, so why suddenly decid- oh. That's why. A woman. You see, in such times (that being the nineties sixties..) the LGBTQ movement was not prominent in Japan (or really, anywhere) - so the flutter of her heart for a woman non the less, one that had aided soften her jagged ends, and pick up her heart from wherever it hid, was well .. frowned upon. Not that it stopped Sutaa from perusing her. Not even when her family found out and publicly condemned her for it, not when it sent her running away, not when it shattered her soul over and over to see her beloved being pulled away further from her.
In Sutaa's world, that was a lost cause she tried to change. Over and over. Year by year as she grew older, endlessly after her. A string of fate she believed to finally, finally free her from . . everything. Everytime she was with her, the world felt lighter. Better. Hopeful. Every giggle hidden behind curtains and doors, every touch that burned her skin alive. Every promise of a glorious wedding that never came. It all lit a fire inside her. A want to become better, to be better. At first, it was for her. The nameless woman only Sutaa knows the name off. . then it changed. It was for herself. The hand that took her hand, that taught her how to be her- taught her how to value herself more than what lie her family needed to make end-means. The same woman that taught her faith, kindness, and genuineness.
It's stupid isn't it? A woman in her forties, early fifties even, running and circling a nameless lady. Granted, they were meant to be, but never left to be. . and even as the world began to change around them, as people grew accepting and kinder, it was too late for them. From the robbing family, to the big beyond.
It all took a singular hand for it to go wrong.
A single one in the hospital. Next to the woman she's loved for many decades of her life. All it took, is a single, contaminated needle. A sneeze in the air that was never paid attention too by the nurse. That's all it took for her (never to be) beloved to face death itself at the hand of a stupid, stupid, STUPID INFECTION. .
It's really strange. Her life started with Shinto being forced upon her, to being taught, to all she was left with. Frankly she had an education. Well, more like a GED. A college degree. . and whatever she'd need to pick herself back up. . one would think this has made her much more jaded, unbearable and in pain but .. it was quite the opposite. Sutaa, as you may have noticed, built herself around nameless for so long. . Maybe this is what she needed. They weren't meant to be, they were never meant to be, but in many ways they were. . or, atleast, one of them was. Because Haruki has been everything Sutaa never was, and she bestowed that to her.
Frankly, brooding would be insulting her.
..
..
..
That's what Sutaa told herself when she walked her path. That's what she told herself when she applied for the Monastery in her hometown. That's what she told herself as her hair grew gray and dull, as her body aged and wrinkled. That's what she told herself when she moved to Karakura.
Brooding would be insulting her.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS
How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?
Madam Sutaa would treat the shrine as her own memorial. Devoted to prayers, offerings, and of the sort.. As she came here with no friends to speak off, or familiar faces, her routine would include the cleaning of the shrine, insuring offerings are well placed, scenting the inner doors, baking goods to share with those present. She speaks very little, avoiding people in general as they well, ticked , her off very easily. To staff working alongside her, she'd treat them as though they were her own children. Catering to food and drinks, and maybe the occasional scolding or lecturing had they done anything wrong or ill-intended. She may be the lowest in the ranks, but her age brings her wisdom beyond what the title gives her.
If she had too face the guests, her tone would be .. kind. Slow as she spoke, maybe a little high pitched, but kind non the less. Refusing to allow her temper to get in the way to her life as a Maiden. It is a familiar environment. One that she got accustomed too two .. maybe three decades ago. Granted, it is probably good and lucky that she's arrived here at the end of her life rather when she had pulled guests by their ears when she was younger .. ?
You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?
Oh boy is that NOT a show.
Madam Sutaa would assert herself with no gentleness to speak off. Sternly informing whoever is causing trouble that doing so is not allowed, and continuing to do so will result in being kicked from the holy-grounds. In her old age, her patience had worn thin for those youngins stirring trouble everywhere! To her, no second chances exist. One, two, three warnings before she calls upon any available staff for help, if non are available, than without warning, the police would be called. This is incase they are still causing trouble, and her charming (not) demeaner had not scared them into standing proper back straight chin up.
If the police end up being called up, the individual would be blacklisted. This is regardless of the offense, be it jumping over the holy-grounds, disrespecting people, physical and / or verbal assault, all of them fall under the same title for her. Disrespect to the kami and the religion.
Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?
In one word, peace.
The Shinto religion had been a backseat in her life, yet always present. From her family, to the love of her life. It is a constant theme that when she had lost her home, community, and finally her beloved, there was nothing else left to lean back on but her religion. There is no grand goal, Afterall. She is nearing the end of her life as is, and all she wishes for is to pass on doing one good thing. Doing one, good, pure hearted thing for herself (or rather, Haruki..).
Trouble didn't seem to follow her in the monastery. When she had her hands joined, knees scraping against the wooden floors. Or when the bell rang with offerings. Even if the kami didn't reply to her, she merely had to believe they were there for her. That is all.
She begs them for peace. To pass on free of regret.
What are the core values of your character? (OPTIONAL - MORE INFO IN FAQ)
[RESPECT]
Respect for one's self, religion, existence, and for others. She believes in respect being the simplest existing attribute. To respect one for existing to begin with. Respect for the religion she serves, and the kami, and the holy grounds, respect for herself and the troubles she has withstood, caused, solved, and moved from.
[KINDNESS]
While never apparent from first glance, Madam Sutaa's kindness comes from her soul. She is kind to not let people disrespect themselves. She is kind to allow the smell of baked foods and teas to fill the space with life. She is kind to lecture those younger than her even in the face of her probably short-temper. She is kind, but not 'nice' in the traditional sense. She is not nice, to be nice is to want to free yourself from trouble. Niceness, is self-serving to her. Kindness, isn't. It is purely for others.
[DILIGENCE]
Madam Sutaa sells herself short in her own diligence. From following her family's footsteps, to learning her GED, to dedicating herself to the kami. One after another, her sense of passion- of wanting to learn and be more, leads the way. She is persistent, following in her goals when she sets them. Despite how troubled she is within herself, it didn't stop her from moving on. From following what she sees is right. Her diligence, is why she is here.
[EFFECTIVENESS]
More or less is self-explanatory. This, however, plays in different flavors. It can be her bluntness, her sternness, it can be her lecturing, her words. It can be anything. To her, effectiveness is to do things the optimal way. The optimal way - to her - is often not by sugarcoating things. Not by playing 'nice' and trying to cater to what has caused the issue to begin with. Her methods are a little .. questionable, I mean its not ideal to yell at a child that she's going to call their parents and tell them they stole something from her, but it certainly stops them from causing more trouble..
