Describe your activity on the server:

I've been a part of SRP for maybe a little over six years now, often departing and returning during different phases of my own life. Over the periods of time where I was active, I'd log on for hours, often ruining my own schedule just to get online, also ruining my sleep schedule... Especially during my earlier years, I was very involved and a lot of my energy went towards the server and the people in it because I had genuinely enjoyed it. More recently, though my priorities have shifted, I'm still definitely active just less. I've taken on a lot more responsibilities, as in, clubs. teams. school work, work, and gym. My schedule is a lot more busy than normal, half of which is the reason I had stepped away from SRP for a few weeks. That said, I returned because I still care about the people and server. I try and log on whenever I can, or when I'm needed. But if I had to rate my current activity activity level, I'd definitely say around a 6.5/10, not amazing, but definitely not inactive.

What position are you applying for (Maiden or Priest)?

Maiden.
Though If needed, Priest is fine as well!

ωi️ωiωi️ ฅ(•˕ •マ
What is your motivation for applying?
Most of my motivation for applying is the wanting to try something new. I do have two accounts on this server and I'm a very active player roleplay and lore wise, though my second account isn't as active as my main (It was recently bought) and despite that I am still on basically everyday. Though unfortunately at one point throughout the eight years of activity on this server I had gone on an inactivity, where I had actually went to japan and visited one of their shinto shrines. It had gotten me quite interested in the religion and subject. When I had gotten home it wasn't at first that I thought about it, but when I began to play srp again I thought about the fact that srp has maidens and priests, a shrine and lore behind it! And so I did, and unfortunately got denied, though it did not steer me away from my interest at all! I kept researching, learning, watching videos, going to the shrine asking questions and reading the forum lore for SRP shinto. Still to this day I am heavily still in research and wanting to be a Maiden, and though I am STILL searching and learning in my own time. I am definitely more willing to learn about Shintoism and its ways, as I currently am quite interested in Shintoism. I know that applying now for this role will help me in the long run with learning more information about how the shrine works, like rituals! Another thing I would like to mention is how the community combined with the shrine and workers have such a lovely environment and is 99% of the time peaceful. I would love to get to know and explore the one subject I want to. And I do know how much of a slim chance of getting in, but I will not stop learning and applying till I do, THAT is how passionate I am about getting into this faction and learning more.

What do you currently know about Shintoism? Are you willing to learn more about it?

My knowledge of how much I currently know about Shintoism isn't as large as I wish it was, I'm definitely still learning by reading lore threads, through friends, and my own research on such topic. So far I have researched things like, rules, Kami, Torii gates, and everything explained below in the spoilers. I wouldn't say i'm familiar with all the information given and on the forums, and I'm still searching and learning in my own time. I am definitely more willing to learn about Shintoism and its ways as I am currently quite invested and interesting in such a religion. But despite my current knowledge on this religion. I am more than happy to sit, and learn about the must knows of this religion, as well as the lore surrounding the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, both past and present.

Shinto Shrines (神社, jinja), are places of worship and dwellings of the Kami, 'gods'. Sacred objects in all different shapes and forms reside within a Shinto Shrine, there are also objects of worship in which where a Kami may stored the innermost Chamber of the shrine where they cannot be seen by anybody. Shrines have over 100s of years of history and are considered a place of worship and home for kami. Most shrines are connected to their community and so not all rules and details are the same.

1762328587377.png
૮ ྀིᴗ͈ . ᴗ͈ ྀིა

Shrine Rules
Respect the shrine. But what exactly does this include or look like? Well for one, climbing on the roof of the buildings is quite disrespectful not only to the shrine staff, but to the kami as well, another disrespectful action is yelling, rude or unnecessary words and actions towards the Miko and Kannushi.
You cannot gangRP on your Maiden/Priest character slot, though you can on a different slot.
No fights are to take place anywhere on the Monastery BUT the Dojo.
Make sure to bow in front of the Torii gates to show respect.
Cleanse your soul with the Temizuya at the entrance of the Monastery before entering the shrine.
Maidens and priests are to greet guests upon their arrival, this normally looks something like, "welcome to the shrine, if you need any assistance please don't be nervous to ask."

Fashion

Though it is not prohibited to wear the things listed below, it is not recommended if you are to visit a shrine. Even if you do wear them you won't be told to leave. It is also recommended if you are wearing a hat that you do take it off when entering the shrine.

Animal fashion; such as ears, tails and more.
Off shoulder dresses, tops or anything that shows your shoulders.
Camisole/running shirts.
Short pants.
Sandals/high heels.
In Fact it is more recommended that you are to wear Kimonos or comfortable attire whilst visiting the shrine, nothing too showy or rude.

Why? Because the shrine are the homes of the gods, and it's almost like visiting someone else's house for the first time. It is just about showing respect, though this can vary depending on the shrine you go to.

Can the Shrine hold things such as weddings, or funerals?

Well yes they can! Maidens and Priests can do many things!

Weddings

An engaged couple can request a wedding ceremony from both a Maiden and a priest! But for this to actually happen, they must first do a brief interview with said couple wanting to get married. The questions are short and easy to answer! Most weddings happen in the main hall, the large building on the hill!

Funerals

People who have lost a loved one may contact the Monastery to help said person go through the processes of a funeral procession to give the deceased a peaceful passing.

Kami:

Not all Kami that are worshipped show up in a Kojuki the ancient myths of shintoism, but also the gods of local nature and even famous people!

There are definitely hundreds of thousands of Kami but trying to name them all would be terribly hard as I only know the few I researched these selected few are:

Amaterasu-Omikami The sun goddess, this Kami is the most important in the religion as of oocly state!

Susanoo, the kami of the wind, or the storm-god, who both causes and protects from disasters, an interesting fact is that Susanoo is the brother of Amaterasu-Omikami!

Inari Okami, the kami of rice and fertility. Their messengers and symbolic are foxes, pretty cool right? I love foxes.

Ebisu, A Kami who bring prosperity. Originally the abandoned leech-child of Izanami and Izanagi.

Hachiman, the Kami of war. Hachiman uses the bow and arrow in war! Isn't that interesting?

Omoikane, the kami of wisdom and intelligence, who is always called upon to "ponder".

Cool Fact break: ≽^-˕ -^≼

There are an estimate of 81,000 - 100,000 Shinto Shrines in japan alone! That's more than their convenience stores which are currently sitting around 55,736!

Temizuya:
As you are to approach the shrine there is a Temizuya. But what is a Temizuya? Well a Temizuya is always found at the entrance of the shrines grounds, it is a place to purify your body before entering. Here is where worshippers or guests wash their hands and mother with the fresh flowing water as an act of Ritual purification. You must cleanse your hands at the well, this is to ward off any evil spirits or bad feelings that might surround you.

In saying this you'd need to pick up the ladle called a Hishaku with your right hand, filling it with water. Then you want to pour the water onto your left hand, cleansing it, repeat this step for your right hand! Make sure you are all cleansed before reaching the actual shrine. Now this next part citizens don't have to do. Mitsue, Miko and Shinkan are obligated to do. Using their left hand to scoop some of the cleansing water, bring it up to your lips and pour the water in, swishing it around before spitting it out next to the Temizuya, don't consume or spit the water back into the water. Then make sure you leave everything how you find it! Put the ladle back and make your way towards the
shrine!!

If you don't you'd be bringing your impurities with you while greeting the gods land!

1762328479685.png

Torii gates:

Did you know that passing the first gate without bowing/walking in the centre of the road is considered a taboo in some shrines? It is because the first gate of the shrine is considered the front door of the kamis home. It is a way of saying, Hello and goodbye before and after your visit.
Is it a must for Shrine workers to bow before the Torii gates? Yes! Yes it is. Shrine workers must bow before walking under a Torii gate. The reason they bow is because it represents the entrances to the domain of a Kami. They must greet the Kami as they enter, showing respect to that Kami. To do a proper brow, they must stop in front of the Torii gate and bow at an 90 degree angle. But make sure not to bow too far forward or too far back you may fall over!
Torii gates act as a barrier for separating the outside world from the sacred grounds.
Typically on either side of the Torii gate there would be statues.

Cool Fact Break:

A large shrine can contain at least several smaller sub-shrines. These Shinto shrines can cover thousand acres, or a few square feet.
≽^•˕• ྀི≼

Omikuji

An Omikuji is a paper slip with the results of fortune-telling written on it. Many Japanese Shrines and temples offer this Omikuji to tell someone's fortune. It doesn't just tell you whether you have good or bad luck in the future, but it also describes various fortunes in detail, such as your luck in money, health, romantic relationships and so on. Have a bad omikuji? There's a wall to hang it up on!

1762327224464.png

Ema Wall
づ. ◟マ
The Ema Wall is a place where guests may ask Shrine Staff to write up anything within reason, for example; "I wish for good luck," or "let peace be given around." And more!

Ofuda

It can be very powerful depending on the Kami. Right let's explain the ofuda then! An Ofuda is a talisman. It could possibly be made out of paper, wood, cloth, or metal. These are known for having a shared power with a kami, now it could be any Kami willing to share their power which means you can't force them to share it by creating an Ofuda. They can bring all types of things like protection against calamity, misfortune, safety within a home, or to find love. An Ofuda is normally placed in a Kamidana, or high on the north or west wall in your living room or workplace.

Tamagushi

A Tamagushi is considered to be an offering made out of a Sakaki tree branch. They are decorated with Washi paper, silk, cotton or hemp textiles. They are usually offered to Kami by priests and Maidens. They are also mainly to present at most types of ceremonies that involve the shrines.

Omamori

Omamoris are often seen as good luck charms. Each one is hand sewn by a member of the shrine, and their purpose is told by the words sewn onto the charm. Every single omamori has a different purpose, and in Japan many students can be seen carrying an omamori for education, though other times romantic partners can gift their significant other a omamori of love or health. This goes for family as well. While these charms may not protect people from evil spirits, they CAN generally help with bad luck and impurities.
(•- •マ
In the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery, the shrine offers 5 different types, such as:

Omamori (Health)

This omamori is green in color, with cheery blossoms falling through it, This omamori helps safeguard someone's health, as well as encouraging resilience and healing within the body and spirit.

Omamori (Education)

This omamori is a dark blue color. It helps to calm people down for the exams, as well as helps focus, perseverance and success in studies.

Omamori (Protection)

Now this Omamori is often used as protection from evil or bad luck (Yakuyoke). Red is often associated with protection and is the known purpose determined by the writing on the charm. As well as providing protection against Impurities, and imbalance by strong spiritual connection to the kami.

Omamori (Love)

As pink is often associated with love, the Omamori of love is pink ! This omamori strengthens bonds of love and friendship, aswell and looking after harmony in all others connections.

Omamori (Fortune)

A lovely light blue and pink color with koi fish, this omamori is created to keep awesome fortune within the holder. Whether is be with Financial or career. The Koi swimming on the omamori bring the holder luck and success.

Rituals

The Shrine offers a wide variety of rituals and events that people can request. To be able to request a ritual, a person may contact one of the shrine workers ICly to discuss such things.

Jichinsai (Construction Ritual)

Jichinsai, also known as the Construction ritual, is a ritual for small blessings. This makes it so that the area being built on is protected and it barely takes any time at all. After the ritual they may receive an amulet that can protect themselves and the people living in that apartment or house.

Misogi

Misogi, also known as a group cleansing ritual, is performed in a body of cold water. It is supposed to purify the mind, soul and body. It helps in developing mental fortitude using meditation and deep breathing practices to help brave through the harshness of the water's temperature. After this ritual, the person will receive an omamori and a meal.

Chanoyu

Chanoyu, also known as the way of tea. It is an art form established by Sen no Rikyu, this specific ceremony comes from the values of Zen Buddhism, where a person may achieve peace through quite a simple act of performing a task to utmost perfection, even if, for example, it is adding boiling water to a cup of tea. People spend long years perfecting such art forms, every movement, breath taken and actions taken is accounted for in a tea ceremony.

Guidelines:

WOW!!! There is a dress code for this ritual service, and it is strongly recommended to dress in formal or traditional attire during the experience. The staff of the shrine have every right to refuse service if a person is dressed in an inappropriate way.
Make sure to watch your tongue and attitude! Be sure to stay respectful at all times and have your phone switched off!
A guidebook is supposed to be given to the person, and they are to read it before the ceremony as the contents have cues and actions you can use to perform or follow.

Chanoyu is typically separated into TWOOOO whole sessions!

Thick tea

This is a more stern and disciplined session as not even conversations are allowed. Guests are to take a sip from the same bowl of tea, wiping it down, and then passing it onto the next guest. However after taking a sip of tea, Guests ARE allowed to appreciate the taste of the tea, after the tea is finished guests are allowed to appraise the tea bowl, seasonal scroll, the host and the bonsai.

Thin tea

It's in a more slightly casual and cool setting, as guests are allowed to have small conversations amongst everyone in the room. During the service light traditional Japanese sweets are served to the guests and may be eaten AFTER the tea is served. Guests are also allowed to request to observe the equipment and tea bowl nearing the end of the ritual.

Tea Ceremonies are mostly held here!

Coming of Age \ Seijin-No-Hi

Seijin-No-Hi, also known as the Coming of Age Ceremony, is often celebrated when someone becomes either 18 or 20. When you are coming of age and choose to celebrate that with the Monastery, you will be thanking the kami in prayer while also receiving a small blessing ANNND a cute gift of a good luck cat charm! And if you are turning 20, Not only will you be bringing home a small blessing and lucky cat charm, but also a taste of sake.

Grounds Purification/Blessings

Blessing or ground purifications are for those who believe they have been either cursed, or have a potential spiritual activity in your home. The Shrine staff are there to assist and bless the grounds to what it once was.

Fun fact break:
Whilst to a current day over 80% of Japanese people participate in practices, only 3-4% say that they are believers in Shinto and many Japanese people practice Shinto alongside Buddhism without any sense of contradiction.

Tarot reading

Tarot readings! I'm quite sure a lot of us know what this is. In the case you do not, I will state this anyways. Tarot reading is very well known as a practice that foresees someone's future, though it isn't in exact words of what will happen, but it does suggest what will happen to you in the near or far future.

Education

The staff of the shrine are educated in the workings of Shintoism and the past history of Shinsei Seinaru Monastery. If at any point in the visit a guest has a question about the shrine or religion, they encourage you to ask.

Shrine Gift shop

ฅ^>⩊<^ฅ
Hot springs
The hot springs are a lovely space, the natural water is used by both Shrine staff and guests. But it's mostly used by guests for relaxation. It is believed that the water is blessed, in which it can help cleanse people, and that is what the Shrine does.

.── Yasuko Asōgi Backstory ── .✦

/ᐠ ˵> ˕ <˵マ
Yasuko was born into the honorable Asōgi family under the House of Elegance, that of Nobu, her father and Zehra, her mother. The House of Elegance is one within the Asōgi family that commands respect, second only to the House of Blossom, the most esteemed. In total, there are six houses for the children of Asōgi to be placed into, and unfortunately for Yasuko, she was born under Elegance, that of her strict and bitter father. As the eldest of his four children, her two younger brothers and sister, all the pressure of being a new source of pride for the House of Elegance was set onto her. Considering the shortcomings the leader of the house bears, this burden fell on Yasuko before she was even born.

Born in the town of Tokyo, Japan, Yasuko had quite a harsh childhood. There were always snarky comments about her intelligence, how long she studies, even her grades were criticised harshly, ‘Could be better’, or ‘How did you get this wrong! Study again! This time for longer.’ Crumbling away under the harsh expectations placed upon her by her family, it felt as if nearly every waking moment was spent submerged in study, barely a moment to breathe for herself. Much like the government her family worked in, everything was to be meticulously, painstakingly planned out about her life. Part of these plans included setting her up within these sects to be a part of the government, all the same as her family before her, and her children after her likely would have been expected to do the same. This was not a life that Yasuko wanted for herself, or for her prospective children. So she did something else, something her family would never approve of. She got involved with instruments, music, and singing.

Eventually, one day, whilst playing the flute on the streets of her hometown, Tokyo, she encountered a woman in a traditional manner of dress she could not quite place. Curiosity took over her as she spoke to her, clicking almost instantly and would go on to become great friends in the future, though for this day, she was just a passerby whose life story was about to be learned. The life of a maiden - it intrigued Yasuko to no end! From the cleansing and purification rituals the Kannushi put on, to the Kagura Dances performed by Miko, just like her newfound friend, it fascinated her. Though just as soon as they had met, personal tragedy struck for the young Yasuko: a family move.
Yasuko was to go abroad to London to study. Devastated, she vowed one day to become a maiden and become just like her friend. Kind, understanding, and a stable pillar in someone's life. A friend to all, much like a tree that offers shade to all that rests beneath it. Following the completion of schooling in London, she did so to appease her father. Straight out of secondary schooling, barely sticking around to get her diploma after completion of her 12th year, she sought out her father’s endorsement to travel, under the pretence of studying local government systems, to intern with them. Enthused by this sudden switch in her outlook towards a government life, he accepted without hesitation. / What he didn’t know was that this was a ruse of sorts.

Rather than study these local governments, she spent most of her time either watching live performances for bands or visiting shrines, watching as the miko put on their shows, or as the shrine grounds were being tended to. Most often, her time was spent sitting quietly while she played her flute in the peace of silence. Though soon enough, her time to return to responsibility and her family had come, and she headed to Karakura to work, where many of her family already resided, and notably, her father did not. To his disappointment, Yasuko returned to join the local Shinsei Seinaru Monastery and not the local government.

Keep in mind not all of her backstory is here, this is like a somewhat detailed skeleton of her actual lore!
This is something written by I, with a bit of help from someone I know.

CHARACTER KNOWLEDGE / SITUATIONS

ฅ^>⩊<^ ฅ
How does your character act around shrine grounds? How do they interact with guests and other staff?

On the Shrine Grounds

Yasuko is a very interesting girl, she doesn't act without thought, or without reason. However, whilst on the sacred grounds of the Shinsei Seinaru Monastery Yasu likes to keep her calm and collected personality in check. No slip ups, no problems. Right? Miss Asōgi acts with professionalism and friendliness, to all those who roam the Monasteries grounds, whether it be animals, guests, the other staff, or even the kami itself. She is a kind person who will always try do her best in all areas of her duties, such as keeping the Shrine clean, greeting arriving guests, the gift shop, or any of the listed services up above.

Guests

Oh guests! Yasuko is again, a very polite and professional lady on the Monasteries grounds, this goes for the people she interacts with as well. She decides it is easier to be nice than to be rude or shy! She's certainly outgoing and would be MORE than happy to help out the guests however she could, whether it be with the gift shop, omikuji, tarot reading, or even participating in a Ritual service. Again, she is polite to everyone, she doesn't act without thinking first or without reason.

/ᐠ - ˕ -マ
Other staff

To Ms Asōgi, everyone deserves to be treated like a human, especially her co-workers. She might seem very understanding and open minded to those spending almost all their time around her, or near her, and well... She is exactly that! Need a hand with something? SURE! Call miss Asōgi, she's on the case in a heartbeat. Just want to sit and talk, or go for a walk? Of course, Yasu is always open for opportunities to get to know the other staff better, to see who clicks and who they are as a person.

You see a guest jumping around the roofs of the building and overall disrespecting shrine grounds, how would your character handle it?

Yasuko would smile at first, her professional demeanor evident in such a case like this. Though how she responds entirely is up to the way the guest responds to her words. She wouldn't be mean, whether it be a fully grown adult, or a mere child, kindness is always her go to at first.

"My my, seems a little bird is having quite the adventure up above. Though I can't help but wonder.." She shook her head, "Has this birdie read the rules?"

With a glimmer of a smile sat upon her face, she lifted her arm up towards the individual, a small gesture in case they needed to be caught. After being replied to, Yasuko would keep that smile while speaking.
"I see, though please get down bird, we do not need to have an accident do we now? I'd suggest coming down for either a lovely walk, or a nice cup of hot and fresh tea with me. Now do come along, and follow me please. On the footpath, would be preferable thank you."

With that being said, she would turn on her heel and walk towards the teahouse, occasionally glancing back to make sure the youngling, or adult, was following her.

But if the way the individual had refused to come down, she would unfortunately have to be a tiny bit more harsh.

"This was not a request, get off the roof, and stop being so disrespectful towards the sacred grounds and the Kami. This is not a debate, nor will I entertain this much longer. Off the roof and find something, or someone else to bother."

Yasuko would stand her ground against the disrespectful person, making sure to not be unprofessional in her words. After all she didn't need a complaint made about her!

Why does your character want to become a shrine maiden/priest? What do they wish to achieve?

Why? Well one day Yasuko was playing the flute on the streets of her hometown in Tokyo when she had encountered quite a lovely young woman in a traditional manner of dress she could not quite place. Curiosity had certainly taken over her mind as she spoke to this woman, clicking almost instantly, and would go on to become great friends in the future, though for this day, she was just a passerby whose life story was just about to be learned. / ˵> ˕ <˵マ

What are the core values of your character?

Honor

Honor to her family, her friends, and those she holds closely to herself.

Contribution

She wants to make a contribution to the shrine and whoever she can.

Happiness

Despite her stressful childhood and teenage hood she still has faith in happiness that will eventually come to her in a short time.

Peace

What's a world without peace? And what's the point in living without a little bit of that pinched into the salt of evil? Yasuko wants a peaceful life, a peaceful life surrounded by those she loves, those that are kind, and those that can understand that she doesn't want to be dragged into pitiful drama for no reason.

And there is one last one she wishes to share around.

୨♡୧ Stability.

She wants to be a pillar in people's lives, a person who others can go to, to confide their troubles. To provide a stable and safe space for anyone in need. THAT is what she truly wants... everyone to feel safe, have a stable life, live knowing they have someone to talk to, that understands.. that can help in any way she can..

Yasuko's appearance.
Standing at a shocking height of 4'0, this 30 year old Japanese woman had quite the fashion!

I know most of these are from years ago but they hold lots of information for those that wish to learn about shintoism. These aren't all the links I used but just a few from the pick.
