Trivia
What is your motivation for becoming a teacher?: My motivation, personally, is that I do enjoy teaching. I also used to teach as a science teacher here on SchoolRP, and I enjoyed that time thoroughly. I think being a teacher, for me, is a learning experience; even while I'm "teaching" other people, I also learn how to teach myself and learn about different options through the way I teach and through the way I am recommended.
Do you have any experience in Roleplaying?: I have plenty of experience in roleplay. I've been RPing on SchoolRP for over a year now, and I think that a lot of my roleplay experience also comes from recently playing the game Dungeons and Dragons. These have both enhanced my ability to roleplay and adapt to certain situations in roleplay.
Have you read the Faculty Handbook?: I have.
What are the classroom logs and why is it important?: Classroom logs are basically what you put down whenever you have taught a class. They require a screenshot of the classroom as you're teaching, and they're important because these are what are counted to make sure you've earned your pay.
You want to start a school field trip; how do you do that?: To start a school field trip, you'd first have to begin by planning where the field trip would be and why it would be there. It would then be most commonly recommended to talk to a Senior Leadership Team member to make sure that it would be alright to visit said place.
As a teacher, what are the strict rules when being in a class?: As a teacher, my personal strict rules while being in a class would be quite simple. However, I’ll list them below:
1. Raise your hand if you’d like to speak.
2. Do not interrupt me or your classmates.
3. Questions should be on-topic.
4. Keep your hands to yourself.
5. Use common sense.
As stated previously, these rules are very simple and should be easy to follow. Any other rules are covered by rule 5, and I think that it’s important for people to be able to easily remember small sets of rules instead of memorizing huge lists.
Summarize your previous RP experience's (both in general and on SchoolRP): I began roleplaying originally on other minecraft servers; though they weren’t roleplay based. I found a few people to roleplay with during my time on them, though I quickly moved over to creative-style servers to roleplay on. After finding myself bored of roleplays on there, I joined SchoolRP, which has opened a new window to the way I choose to roleplay.
Describe the ranking system of teachers:
- HD: Head of Department: as stated, this is the person that is in charge of your department. For example, if there were three science teachers, one would be HD, observing those beneath them in ranks. The HD is the one in charge of those beneath them. They make sure everything is in proper order.
- QTLS: QTLS stands for Qualified Teacher of Learning and Skills, and to give the basic statement, they are the ones who teach and aid NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) ranks in improving their teaching.
- NQT: NQT stands for Newly Qualified Teacher. As the name states, this person has most likely recently earned their degree, and they are relatively new to teaching. Despite this, they have learned through college and have a proper degree.
Teacher Knowledge
Present to us your knowledge about Teachers in-game and out-of-game, what purpose do teachers serve. What salary do they get? Include a paragraph about the way teachers teach, what they do in their spare time in general.
Teachers, both in-game and out-of-game, should be providing a good example to students about how they should behave and how they should learn to treat other people. Teachers should be respectful themselves and should take their job seriously; something that is not always seen in real life. Teachers are not only there to teach students about their subject, but they are also there to prepare those whom they are teaching for the life ahead of them.
Most of the time, teachers often teach according to how they feel is fit. Though, in my personal opinion, it’s important to stretch out of your comfort zone and reach out to other types of teaching. For example, if you’re used to teaching via games to help students learn that way, you should be attempting to reach out and teach other types of lessons; such as debates or interactive open-voice discussions. It’s very interesting to look at the way people teach, and it should always be interesting.
Teachers, however, also have a down-time. They need that down-time to be able to prepare themselves not only for the next day, but for the job they have ahead. Their out-of-school hours often range from planning lessons to enjoying their day out on the streets, and it can be as simple as that. I think it is important for a teacher to develop friendly relationships with their students in school, because this can help a student grow more attentive to the teacher they are close with. However, these friendships should not extend to the point where it’s completely limitless. And finally, salaries. Teacher’s salaries depend on how many classes they teach. There is a base amount of classes that you must teach and provide proof of, and then your salary raises from 5-10 classes above that.
Why are teachers important to a SchoolRP server?: Teachers are important to a SchoolRP server because they form the basics of the school’s faculty. They teach students, and they guide these students along the path of the way they should act in school. Not to mention these are the people who should be keeping students in check. NPC teachers are much more difficult to handle, as well as the fact that they’re much less fun to attend classes for. Teachers in a SchoolRP server should be able to adapt to their situation.
What lesson planning system does the school work on?: The school in our server relies on a MoSCoW method, which stands for ‘Must Have’ ‘Should Have’ ‘Could Have’ and ‘Would Have’. This acronym means many things, which form the way lessons should be planned.
Must-Have: Must have everything prepared, and finished.
Should Have: Should have everything prepared and finished, but it’s not absolutely needed.
Could Have: It’s possible to have it, but it does not affect any type of completion or project.
Would Have: Doesn’t affect anything, but it’d be nice if you had it.
Character Knowledge
Tell us everything you know about the character you will be playing in a few paragraphs. How does he look like? What makes him unique and different? What is his outlook on Students? What about the other teachers? What is his personality like? What is his plan for the future?
Toshio Miyahara is a male teacher standing at around five foot eleven. He has natural, chocolate-colored curly hair that is tied up in a neat bun on the back of his head. He almost always has a firm expression on his face, and his voice tone is authorative and deep. He is a single father to four children, currently: triplets and one grown-up daughter. He cares for his family especially, and would do anything to help them succeed in what they wish to do - even though he may want them to take up jobs that he could never be. For his children, he wishes that they could become someone he never was.
His outlook on students is the fact that he knows that they will not be perfect. He has a system where he will give you three chances; if you use up those three chances, he can almost become intimidating. He doesn’t mean to, of course, but he thinks three chances are enough to get yourself in line. His outlook on other teachers, however, currently is not much. He doesn’t have very high expectations for those in Karakura itself; those who have grown up in Karakura do not impress him. He’d still stay polite and keep his words to himself, though.
His plan for the future is not for himself, it’s for his children. He wishes to aid them in growing to be who they want to be, therefore most of his money that is not going towards his rent and his expenses for other essential needs is going towards their future.
Scenarios
You find a gang of delinquents in the hallway cursing and swearing, what do you do?: Toshio Miyahara would first observe the students, his eyebrows raised. After a few minutes of watching them do so, he’d step forward, giving them the reasoning as to why what they were saying was not school appropriate. He’d also explain to them, “There are children in this school. They do not need to grow up around people that refuse to open their minds to a better future.”
No one in your class is listening to a word you say, what do you do?: Toshio Miyahara would begin to become annoyed. He’d lift the book he was teaching from, and with a loud slam, drop it on the floor to shock the students. He’d then pause, and point to the book. “You see this book?” He’d wait for the students to respond. Then, he’d continue speaking. “If you see this book, then you should understand why I dropped it. Why did I drop it?” He would be focusing on the students, his gaze crossing each one.
When in the teacher's lounge, how does your character act?: When in the teacher’s lounge, Toshio is mildly cold. He doesn’t speak much to the other teachers, as he most likely hadn’t formed a friendship with many of them yet. He will give a hello, but his tone will seem oddly uncomfortable - as if he’s antisocial.
Provide at least 5 detailed /me's of your character inside a classroom:
/me would provide the students with a sheet of paper. On the sheet of paper was a relatively short poem. He’d then speak; “Today, we’ll be having an open-discussion about this poem. You may ****yze and debate about the meaning.”
/me would set the book on the podium, resting his hands on the sides of the podium before looking up to speak to the students. “Today, we’ll be discussing the life of Edgar Allan Poe. Can anyone give me a fact about him?”
/me would then pass out empty sheets of paper to his students. He’d then explain to them what they were doing, and show them an example; on the example he showed was a fifteen-line poem.
/me would pick up the book on the podium and he’d set it away, returning to the front of class before clasping his hands together to speak once more. “We’re playing a game today!”
/me would place his hands once more on the podium, calling out to the class; “Who would like to read their poem out loud? Raise your hands.”
Backstory
Toshio Miyahara, as a student, was very loyal to his studies. He was extremely pressured by his own parents to become an important government job, therefore he had almost been forced to have outstanding grades. All pressure aside, Toshio was a very smart child. He knew what he was talking about when he explained questions to his teachers, and at times, he would even question them on their own subjects. He found it interesting to hear their own opinions on the subjects they taught, and he wanted to know what they thought about the material they had to teach for the students to learn and graduate from school.
In his third and final year of high school, Toshio had told his parents that he did not want to become an official government worker. He didn’t want to become a lawyer, he didn’t want to become a doctor. He, instead, wanted to become a teacher: someone who could explain to their students why he loved the subject he would teach, as well as the basics of the subject he’d be teaching. He wanted to help these students along their way in their life, and he wanted to help them become the best they could be; as his own teachers did for him.
Toshio’s parents did not exactly approve. He was hurt by this, and they refused to pay for his tuition to become the person they wanted him to be. His dreams were crushed, though he refused to give up; his hope to become a teacher was still there. He had the smarts, and he had the right mindset. He simply refused to end his career after one mistake. He picked up three jobs to help himself pay for his college tuition to become a teacher, and he struggled to keep all of his classes in order. Even despite that, he kept a good work ethic and proceeded to work towards his goal of becoming a teacher.
